From the moment she walked into the room, she was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, friendly, and reassuring. She immediately made me feel comfortable and at ease. Dr. Patel and her imaging techs are wonderful. Easy to talk to, very thorough, and I feel very confident in the quality of their care. I think a few areas of opportunity could include: - An easier scheduling system. It's difficult to check on when your next appointment is (if you lost the written card) and moving appointments involve pushing the date out pretty far. I don't know how hard it would be to implement an online system for this, but it could be nice to improve. - The office staff has always been warm and friendly with me, but they do seem fairly busy. It would be helpful for them to provide a little more verbal guidance between transitions in the appointment and to check in occasionally if the wait is longer than expected. All that said, I'm more concerned with the imaging quality and evaluation being top notch -- which from what I can tell, it is. The office itself is older, but comfortable, and the customer service processes are not tech-forward or slick, but work well enough. read more

I recently received a mammogram with results we never want to hear. But, when I needed to get in for another diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound with a possible biopsy and marker placement, Dr. Dipa Patel and her healthcare team were incredible and efficient. I just want to thank Barbara who started my IV (next door), Stephanie who roomed me, Maria at the front desk/scheduler, and Laura who performed the mammogram. I may have missed someone but everyone was super sweet and helpful. Dr Patel was able to get me in a month earlier than PAMF which was a month sooner to start breast cancer treatments. I am grateful for their care! And, I have never had an issue with billing. Not once in 10 years. read more

Wow this office has the rudest billing department. The doctor spoke two words to us, so I didn't get to interact with her much. The communication from this dr to the dr that recommended us was non existent also. From seeing the reviews I'm not the only one with issues in The doctor obviously doesn't care about the reviews and if her patients get treated like sh*t. I visited this office to request a copy of my medical records. I am no longer a patient and have not received care here in over five years. Upon entering the lobby, I approached the front desk to check in. A staff member was engaged in a conversation with another employee. When I said hello to her, she instructed me to, "Sit down." The conversation between the two staff members continued for several minutes about personal topics, which could be clearly heard in the lobby. I waited until they were finished talking. When she was done talking with her co-worker, she turned to me with no words, and she pointed at me and then pointed at the door for me to walk through to talk to her. This is not something I've encountered before. Pointing, no welcome, etc. The other offices I go to say things like, "Hello, how can we help you today, or I'm sorry we are busy right now, please have a seat and we'll be right with you." Have dense breasts with a couple of "abnormal findings". Dr. Patel is so incredibly thorough, going from mammogram to ultrasound and back to get a further clarification with another mammogram on one questionable breast lesion. She was not rushed, was clear with her explanation....most professional and kind. Today Dr. Patel actually did the mammogram herself as her tech was out. I love that she is in the office to discuss findings immediately as well. Finally, they give you yummy chocolate wrapped in pink foil when you are checking out. Highly recommend! read more

Good luck trying to even reach them. I called multiple times to schedule an appointment, different days of the week, different times of the day. They always have the answering machine greeting you, saying they are "too busy". And when they do call back, they only do it once so better not have meetings or anything in your life so you can take their call. And when you do take their call, they will say they can't hear you and hang up in 30sec, and they will never attempt to call back. if you call back immediately, it's the answering service again. read more

I have gone to this place twice for my annual exams. Once pre pandemic and they were clear then about getting an ultrasound and how that would cost more. I declined at the time, I just wanted what was covered. My most recent visit in 2025 however they did not communicate this to me but instead just went ahead with the ultrasound without any follow up after the mammogram and why it was needed. They took me from one room to the next and I just assumed this was part of my annual exam. I very clearly said I wanted what was covered by insurance for my annual exam and that's it. But they sneak in the forms you sign that you will pay if they do an ultra sound so be warned! In general they are very disorganized and terrible at communicating with patients. It's very hard to call and talk to someone. Also, just another example of their very poor communication, I have a friend who used them and they didn't communicate her lump results and because of this her cancer progressed and as a result she needed much more invasive care. (I found this out after my visit- but another reason to never go there). Avoid this place! read more

Never in my life have I ever dealt with such an unprofessional, rude business. It was the most disgusting experience I have ever encountered from front desk, to management to accounting. My mom had an appointment for a mammogram at the Morgan Hill location but decided to reschedule it for the National Ave location as they give results on the spot. Upon arrival, she was told that my appointment was in Morgan Hill, even though she had rescheduled that original appointment. Maria, at the front desk, was very rude and told up to hurry up and get to Morgan Hill or she would miss the appointment. My mom asked if the charge for the immediate reading would be waived because of the mixup and Maria told her there would be no charge. I was sitting in the lobby and heard the whole conversation. So we hurried up and drove to Morgan Hill. As we were exiting the freeway, Maria called asking where we were as they were waiting for us at the Bascom Ave location, which is not at all what she told my mom. I interjected and told her that was not what she had said and she said, "well I gave you a business card." The business card has the Morgan Hill and Bascom Ave address on it so that meant nothing. We walked into the Morgan Hill location and Kim had just gotten off the phone with Maria. She said they didn't have any openings. I explained what had happened and she was able to squeeze my mom in, which was great. However, they said there was a charge for the immediate results, even though that was why my mom rescheduled the appointment for in the first place. Kim even called the doctor to see if it could be waived and she said no. So my mom ended up paying $115 for the results. Kim got off the phone with Maria again and stated that she told Kim that she "just told us that there would be no charge to get us to leave." Impressive customer service. My mom was so upset because of the whole experience, that she was in tears sitting in the waiting room in MOrgan Hill. The following week, I decided that I would go talk to a supervisor. I didn't want to see Maria so I went to the Bascom Ave location. I asked to speak with a supervisor and Mona came out to talk to me. I explained the whole situation to her and told her that I didn't think my mom should've been charged for the results as there was an error on their end, not ours. She agreed and said she would reach out to accounting to get a refund issued. She apologized and said that my mom should give them another chance to make sure the next experience was better. After about two weeks, there was still no refund. I had left a message for Mona and nver got a call back. I even emailed once and nothing. A few days later, I tried to call again and Mona answered. She apologized and said she would try again. I asked if I could email too and she gave me their email address. I reached out and the response I got from the accounting team was incredible. They were accusing me of harassing Mona and being rude and that I had no right to a refund, even though I was told I was. Apparently, everyone is backtracking on what they had said to cover their own butts. Every one is denying their involvement with trying to make things right. I was absolutely floored. The response was reminiscent of high school playground quarrels. I couldn't believe what I was actually reading. I wasn't being rude or confrontational but accounting sure was. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all cost. It's not worth dealing with rude and incompetent staff stemming from the top to the bottom. I have zero complaints about the techs or the doctor providing the actual mammograms & diagnostics. That experience has always been good for me. However, their office staff is the worst. You leave a detailed message regarding scheduling your yearly test because they truly never answer the phone & when they do finally call you back you get attitude. I was also disappointed to learn that in September, they were already booking out to February. I have always gotten scheduled within a month. Lastly, because I did get a referral elsewhere from my doctor, the new place requested I ask them for a CD with prior images so they have something to compare to. Simple enough request, right? Nope. I sent them an email on 9/19 and have heard nothing back (it's 10/3 as I write this). I left yet another VM at the start of this week & still no call back. Do not go to this office. I was a patient for years for mammograms and a bone density test, when Dr. Ralph Smathers was there. He and his staff were wonderful. Now, there has been a complete turnover in staff in the past year. Initially, I could not get through on the phone to make an appointment for my bone density test. I finally had to call in as a "doctor" to even get someone to call me back. In addition, when I showed up, I was told I had to put on a mask. I said I preferred not to wear one, and explained I have breathing issues. I was told, in a very rude way, that I would not get the bone density test if I did not wear one. I've had breast cancer, so I needed the test. The 70+ year old tech was unpleasant and curt. None of my other doctors' or dentists' offices require masks. They are intelligent enough to realize that COVID is here forever, like the flu, and they put their patients first. No wonder Dr. Patel has only 2 and 3 star ratings when reviewed by patients. read more

The medical care is not standard - they are supposed to take two images in mammogram and only took one. They also forced a biopsy on me by scaring me on the same day as the mammogram. DO NOT COME HERE!!! Dirty, old and filthy place with very rude and unprofessional staff/technician/doctor!!! What a horrible place! No one answers the calls. I left a voicemail and someone finally called back to make an appointment with dr. Patel yesterday. Today I went to the office on time, nobody was at the front desk. Finally someone called me, no hello, no greeting, just rude and dismissive and told me that I will be seen by the technician. I reminded her that I made my appointment with a doctor and I was there to see the doctor. I wish she told me on the phone yesterday that the doctor was not available, she would have saved me the trip. The rude receptionist informed me that if I were to leave it would count as the cancelation which was $100 (I was furious, I didn't miss my appointment, I was there). She stepped out to talk to someone, I am guessing to the doctor. I sat down to wait....some woman asked me to follow her to the room. Again no hello, she never introduced herself like it happens in civilized places. She became defensive right away and started telling me about her 25 year experience as a technician. I explained that my appointment was with a doctor and that's who I wanted to see. I explained that my referral was to the doctor and my reason for being there was to see the doctor. She stepped out to talk to someone, I am guessing to the doctor again. The technician came back after few minutes and told me that if I wanted to see the doctor it would count as a consultation which is $250. I said ok and asked to apply to my insurance. The technician said no and asked for my credit card. Now does this sound normal to you? After such a horrible experience and lies/confusion about my appointment I didn't feel comfortable for my credit card to leave my sight. I said I wanted to leave because I didn't feel comfortable. Overall experience was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!! So how would a good, caring and kindhearted doctor allow this type of behavior. I went here yesterday and with some trepidation after reading the negative reviews. I have been here several times in the past for mammograms, and the experience was positive, although I think I recall being billed late but it was all in order. I can say the staff I interacted yesterday were welcoming and very respectful. I had a DEXA scan, 3D ultrasound and mammogram. I was seen on time , and the staff knew what they were doing and put me at ease. I prefer this clinic as opposed to going through the larger providers. read more

I trusted my employer who said to disregard the bad yelp reviews. What i idiot i was. 1) they will scam you to do mammogram PLUS ultrasound. Everyone from reception to nurses to doctor will try to sell you on it. We and everyone that came in went through that. Make sure you know the facts, what the doc asked and the radiation risks of mammogram specifically if you young. They will say do both...do both.. first even without analyzing or showing current findings. See another review saying same thing...attached recommended cancer screening guides as images here. 2) wont allow spouses to be next when doing tests. Alomost trying to make the forcing easier . 3) one of the machines broke before she did test immediately broke, thankfully before she tested. Then got transferred one that worked. 4) got test results after 2 weeks. Other places we get it almost in few days. 5) will see if i also get the billing horror stories other yelpers put here. I don't know that the office or ownership of the practice read this so it may not make any difference but HELP HELP HELP please! No answers on the office line, no answers on the billing line. Impossible to make an appt. How can women be assured that they are getting top of the line care when the office is run so poorly and it's impossible to get through to talk to anyone. As for billing, to send bills and not be able to talk to anyone about the bills, let alone not have online bill pay to ensure people can easily submit payment in a timely manner - it's just unheard of. I received a bill for the first time 3 months ago for services from 12/2021 which I had met my full deductible so I should not have been responsible for anything (Date of service was 12/30/21). Regardless of that I called to discuss twice and got no reply back so I tossed the bill and now have another one - left a message and instead of a call back got a curt, nasty tone including mention of collections when I noted the above (no bill until a few months ago, no return calls, etc). Service when I was at the office was good (they always run late but I always assume that is because they take the time they need with each patient). However, as noted, you have to be able to get in touch with the office to go there/make appts and to pay your bills. Hoping office management takes a look at the other postings and considers how to make this a better experience for her patients. Thanks for considering. read more

Longer story is that my wife got a bill a few days ago for a routine mammogram, rendered in May 2019; the billing claims that we didn't pay the multiple invoices mailed in 4 years. It looks like multiple people had the same problem with them. Somehow, the preventative imaging service was turned into a diagnostics code (my wife didn't know and the charges were not explained) and they charged the insurance as such. Didn't want to waste time arguing with the vicious billing person, so just paid over the phone. Just need the receipt so that this clinic doesn't claim later that we didn't pay. read more

I issued a complaint to the BBB against Breast Imaging Specialists (BIS). In BIS's response they disclosed patient protected health information about me to the BBB, which is a HIPPA violation as a non-covered entity according to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) standards. I reported them to the Department of Health and Human Services, who responded as follows: "Specifically, the complaint regarding Breast Imaging Specialists, Inc. (BIS), alleges that you filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau against BIS and BIS responded by sharing details on the BBB's website regarding the type of services you received, account information; the name of your employer, and your employment title, without your consent. Based upon our review of your correspondence, OCR has advised the covered entity of the concerns described in your complaint. The facility has been provided with technical assistance on appropriate disclosures of patient protected health information under the Privacy Rule. If in the future, the covered entity fails or refuses to take steps to address this concern based upon the technical assistance provided by OCR, we may need to contact you in connection with a formal investigation." The dr at this office is great. But if you can't make your appointment and have to miss it due to illness or life, they won't reschedule you for another 6 months. When I called today to ask to be changed to a separate time due to unexpected travel the person who answered the phone told me I had to wait until January, when I explained I had already waited an additional 6 months making it almost two years without a breast exam she hung up on me. I tried to call back and they wouldn't pick up the phone. The dr is great but her front office is horrible to deal with. read more

I just received a bill from 2019. There isn't a way for me to check if I paid or not. Not sure why the billing is so late, but it's hard to dispute if been double billed or not with that much time passed. I can't seem to get the office to call me back. I wanted to ask a few questions and then pay by credit card but I can't even seem to do that. Reading the other reviews about billing makes me wonder if there is something shady going on. There are some positive reviews, but it seems like they wait 2-3 years to send the bills so those positive reviews have not had enough time to experience this billing issue yet. At that time, National is booked out to JULY, etc. I thought it was important to inform the bad reviewers to try to get more information, please. One more thing even more important for all of us. This appointment is for US! No matter how long it takes in a waiting area, DRs office, etc. Please, make sure we have that time available. Be sure to ask Breast Imaging for insurance verification and list of charges BEFORE you have your mammogram performed - and what your co-pay will be AND SAVE THAT DOCUMENT. It will save you a lot of headaches and dealing with their abusive and unorganized accounts receivable department. Also look at your doctors requisition and verify if the 3D services are necessary for Dense tissue. Keep an eye on how your insurance is billed. Believe all of these negative reviews. read more

I fought with real proof of incorrect and erroneous information provided by an awful and almost criminal billing representative. They hid behind an email persona and would never take calls. I do not recommend it, you will receive a bill with unreasonable amounts long time ago after your visit. This was done specifically (after 120 days) so that you would not be able to appeal in court. I give one star to this place. The accounting and billing team is horrible. They sent over a bill for a service that never happened. The second appoint never happened since the second appt was only for bone density . They added a line for a Ultra sound service which never happened.I sent an email, did not hear back for 3 months. I left a voice and emailed again, and the response was just asking me to pay back. The explanation was "The Doctor proactively do the Ultra sound along with Mammogram appointment and hence the additional charge". When I asked for explanation, the email was about to just pay the money ASAP. This place is a SCAM! The "advanced ultrasound technology" is a scam to bill patients for preventive care of annual breast examination! Their billing department sends patients, as you can see from other reviewers, of bills that are two years old of service date and was 100% covered by the insurance because it is preventive care! They are desperate for money, so they've started billing ALREADY PAID services that are two years old! Do NOT pay! They are scamming you and are trying to intimidate you! They didn't make much money during the pandemic in 2020. So, now they ficticiously create bills out of old visits and hope people would pay! EVERYONE, please file a report at the BBB.org web site to stop this scamming. If you, as a patient, do not report to the BBB at least, then they will keep doing this unethical practice! The insurance that you used during the time of service has ALL the information. You can call that insurance! In my case, I still have the records that the preventive care is 100% covered. Office staff are rude and unprofessional. The room wasn't even cleaned before they put me in the room. The tissue cover from previous patient was still on the bed, the used towel to wipe the gel off the breasts & the spatula was laying on the ultrasound machine from the previous patient and I had to ask to have them remove it. The technician obviously was not experienced as she struggled to get me set up. She finally realized the breast plate was the wrong size. Will never go back there. read more
