This gym is a total fitness/health center and if you need to revamp your fitness and health, they do the job. The workout is based on the large muscles and using the core, with weights and aerobics, heavy seaman's ropes to shake, Indian clubs and things that require "natural"movements such as you would do if you work a heavy job. You'd think "this is for the young" but the clientele are of all ages, young and old, men and women. The instructors are highly trained and know their stuff. They are also highly motivating and encouraging. The workout bootcamp is do-able, even if you are relatively out of shape and middle aged, but it's tough, make no mistake. While you get in shape, you get coaching and an online nutrition system, and you can even sign up for home-made stye meals delivered to you (relatively well-priced) but it's not required. The staff will keep in touch with you and monitor your progress with regular tests and measurements. If you are SERIOUS about getting and staying in shape, this is excellent. The workout goes so fast--the fastest half hour there is, because the work never lets up but each workout is completely different, so you never get bored. The only issue I have is that because it depends on large muscle groups, movements such as lunges and squats are the majority of the workout and for those with severe knee injuries, this may not be suitable. I have one very bad knee--torn up playing tennis years ago then again doing mountain hiking, and I had to revert to Pilates due to re-injury of this knee. But for the time I worked out here, I got fit very fast and enjoyed the variation and the challenge. The ropes especially are AWESOME aerobic and strength equipment. They get the adrenaline pumping. The gym is a no-nonsense space in an industrial strip warehouse, no frou-frou here. If you are serious, you'll love it. read more

I joined Breakthrough almost 2 years ago. I was more than 25 pounds overweight and had already tried Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig. Nothing worked. I wasn't able to stick with anything. I finally found my niche at Breakthrough. I was very surprised to find out that it's not just a gym. They offer personal consultations, social activities, participate in service projects, provide dietary guidance, and encourage team support. I am held accountable not only by the owners, Chris and Karen, but by all the friends I have made. I lost the weight I wanted and have kept it off for the past year and a half. I learned how to use weights properly and restructure my eating habits to convert fat to muscle. This is a great group of people and I would definitely recommend others to come check it out. At Breakthrough you will be welcomed right where you are in your journey with fitness, weight loss and self-care. Accommodations are made in all areas especially in the area of strength training so that even if you have never been involved in a fitness program, you will be able to participate and see results and gain strength...if you are a fitness powerhouse, you will be challenged.
