Breakout Games was a fun location for a team activity while on a recent business trip to STL. The room was easy to book online in advance and check in for our party went smoothly. Spoiler alert, our team did not escape. But, our host Jonathan was helpful in providing clues when we asked and told us what we had missed when time ran out. All in all, it was a fun event! My only comment for future guests is that while our reservation allowed up to 8 people, 8 was a little tight once we got into the room. Based on the room size and activities you need to complete, you're probably better off with groups of 4-6. read more

I've only been to one other escape room, and I didn't like it. At all. It wasn't logical and we had too many people in the room; I couldn't wait until it was over. However, I can't wait to return to this place! Kiera was SUCH a good host and guide if we got stuck. Super pleasant, while providing excellent clues that didn't spoil the fun by giving away too much. Me and my boyfriend came here for date night and it was really fun. I prefer to have the ability to do an escape room with just my group instead of doing it with people I don't know. We did the kidnapping room. You start off blindfolded and handcuffed. For the entire 60 minutes you remain in the same room. I like it when you go to 2-3 rooms solving clues. The combination locks and key locks don't open easily so keep trying. read more

Each room is a private room with up to 8 players and the more players you have, the lower the per person price. If you only have 2 players, the cost is $43pp vs $23pp with 7- 8 players. We did the Submarine Survival - "You're not the first to look for lost treasure. Find what others couldn't before oxygen runs out..." The room was very well done and nicely staged to make you feel like you're in a submarine. The rooms are copywritted so you're not allowed to take any pictures. They don't actually lock you in the room, so you can leave anytime if you get claustrophobic or need to use the restroom. There are cameras in the room so that the game master can watch you and provide hints to help you solve the puzzles and move the game along. We had SO much fun here! It was our first time experiencing an escape room and to be honest we should have researched more. It was difficult for beginners but that didn't stop us from having fun. There were several games to pick from, each having their own theme. We choose mystery mansion. It was fun once we got the hang of it. We spent way too much time in the first room before we realized there was a second part, rookie mistake. Our game keeper was very helpful with her hints. She was getting "frustrated" with how close we were when asking for help. It's a clean space in the corner of a shopping strip off Manchester. Good location, plenty of parking. We waited a long time to go in, our game master was talking a mile a minute, the escape room itself was very badly lit and we needed to see writing on the wall that we couldn't see at first. The bomb one took forever to break out and there were at least 20 different things we had to accomplish. I have never not been able to breakout and this one, we weren't even close. We are super fans of breakout rooms and had make it a stop on all our vacations. This place is outside of St. Louis (20-25 mins) in a small shopping area. You need to book online as it seems it gets really busy depending on the day. Although the adventure chosen, they lock you in 1 room and didn't have to open multiple rooms to escape, it was a lot of fun. Clues were nicely hidden and not that easy to crack. The staff offered as many clues without given away what to do, so it was perfect for the kids. Overall we had a blast and planning to go back to try other rooms next time in the area. read more

Awful. The place was dirty and run down feeling. We did the bomb squad room and had Grace as our host. Her hints were not really hints. The room was so dark we couldn't see the lock numbers. Asked if we could use our phone as a flashlight and she said no. About 30 min later, we said we literally can't see what we're supposed to and she said, there should be a flashlight in there. But there wasn't. So then she said, oh I guess use your phone then. We wasted so much time. We'd open up an area and she said you're not supposed to do that yet, pretend like you haven't done it yet. Our host was not helpful, seemed super annoyed, and was borderline rude. Not going back. read more

Today we did the mystery mansion escape room with grace. We were in a group of 4 people and one of which had never done an escape room and for the others this was there second. Before we started the room she didn't ask if it was any of our first or about any prior experiences I thought this was odd but not to big of a deal. Once we entered the room was dark and it was super on theme with the theme which everyone really liked. Because we are a newer group we did ask for quite a few hints because we were unsure. I asked for more clarification a few times because we were quite understanding her hints. Her hints were very monotone and came across and sort of came off as rude.The experience wasn't as warming and welcoming as our previous experience with Mitch who was wonderful. At the end we weren't able to escape and we were hopping she could walk us through or tell us the ending because we had spent an hour in the room. The ending felt very rushed which can be understandable especially if there's more groups, but we also paid a lot of money to enjoy this experience and we felt we got equal treatment. Also to mention we weren't treated when we came in probably for about 10 more minutes. read more

I've done four different escape rooms around a Saint Louis and this was my favorite location so far for three reasons: 1. The puzzles all worked 2. The theme and theatrics were solid 3. This location is off to the side and I didn't even know it was there until I booked a room. Me and seven friends decided to do an escape room for my birthday and it was one of the funnest experiences I've ever had. Our guide for the room was very knowledgeable and helped us figure out some clues that were a little bit difficult to figure out. We loved the fact that there were unlimited hints and we did not get penalized for asking for help. We will definitely be back to do the other rooms. read more

We were celebrating my brother-in-law's birthday so there were 7 of us in the room. Literally you walk in and there were clues but nothing else. How much fun is Breakout, you may ask? Well, it's so much fun that I literally ripped my pants without even noticing because I was focused on the game. This was my first escape room experience and my friends convinced me to sign up for the Kidnapping Room in which you start out by being blindfolded and handcuffed to a bed (yes, it feels as weird in person as it sounds...but weird in an oddly fun way). From there, we had one hour to get out of the handcuffs and figure out how to escape the room before our kidnapper came back. The excitement of this experience comes from not knowing what to expect, so I don't want to reveal too many details here. I will say though that I was impressed with the complexity of the game. There were enough difficult challenges throughout the hour that I felt proud when we actually escaped (with just a little over two minutes left!), but it wasn't so complex that we felt discouraged or frustrated. We chose to keep the lights off throughout the hour to keep the creepy atmosphere, but we were able to turn the lights on at any time, and despite the name, you're not actually locked in the room and you're able to leave if you become uncomfortable in any way. No one jumps out and scares you either (I'm not sure if other people are worried about this, but I know I was, so I wanted to go ahead and calm your fears just in case). Although I was nervous about trying an escape room at first, I assure you there's nothing to worry about it. Breakout is reasonably priced and delivers a really unique and fun experience so I highly recommend it. I can't wait to return and try another room... This is my second time to do an escape room. I was visiting family over Thanksgiving and the adults decided to go on a date night here. We were a group of 8 and we signed up for one of their more difficult rooms. When we got there, the staff was friendly and the place was clean. We used the restroom and hung up our coats. Even the bathrooms were clean. We were then taken to our room and watched an introductory film. Then the staff wished us luck and we were on our way. Man did we have a GREAT time!!! The room was awesome and challenging. The staff member that spoke through the speaker was very helpful. We made it out, just in time. I definitely recommend this place. read more

I've always really enjoyed going to breakout games. I think they do a really good job of keeping it simple and entertaining at the same time. Specifically I like that they only care about how long it takes to break out and give clues generously if needed. This is in comparison to some places that add a bunch of points and other things to the game. This can be a little overwhelming at times. I've always thought the service is really good and friendly. I think they do a really good job of variety with their rooms with different challenges and puzzles that are unique. I've never done a room that was really similar to another room. So we are from CA and came out to visit family in St. Louis. On a whim, we decided to try an escape room...it was amazing! I was reticent to try it, worried that it would be too stressful or that we would get stuck for 30 minutes, but the supportive game master wouldn't let that happen! Austin was our game master and he was wonderful. He gave us enough help for us to be successful but not so much that we felt cheated. Not only did we escape, but we worked together so well.
