I went a relatively safe route and got lavender honey, which was absolutely delicious & had the perfect amount of lavender flavor. Had to get it in a waffle cone which was so soft (in a good way) that it was more of a pancake cone. Ambiance is cute, service was fast. Can't comment on parking, but it's readily accessible with Metro. 10/10 would recommend!

Hey, you know what you need after having spent most of the afternoon trying all the KC BBQ places…read moreand wondering what to do next, ice cream was suggested. Why not? Especially since Betty Rae's is a local landmark. Since it was a holiday weekend the lines were long, especially with the way the coolers were oriented. The flavors were laid out on a little tree near the drinks cooler, what should I get? Something a little lighter like their sorbet? I texted a former KC local friend of mine and he said go the ice cream route. I eventually settled on the Goat cheese, apricot and candied walnut with the Chantilly cake in one of their homemade waffle cones. I was expecting the Goat cheese flavor would be the standout but the Chantilly cake with the berries was slightly better; the goat cheese was a little too rich. The ice cream was a little softer than I expected and with the soft waffle made it a bit messier than it should have been.

The pick-up is so quick and easy - just order online, pop-in, and grab your order off the shelves to the left of the entry door. You can't go wrong with the food here from girl breakfast, to the plain + simple breakfast sandwich, to the pepperjack burrito, to the market bowl, lunch menu and their many many mouthwatering pastries. And don't forget about the coffee! They have both real mugs and to-go cups. I love their regular drip coffee, cold brew, cappuccinos and lattes. The cafe's interior design is modern, chic and comfortable with a mix of booth and table seating. I can usually find a seat for 2-4 people, groups larger than that may have a hard time finding a seat during peak times like weekend mornings. Seasonally, McLain's offers outdoor seating, too. Best of all, the staff makes you feel right at home - welcoming, friendly, helpful, hardworking and clean. Parking is angled street parking out front. Sometimes I have to walk a bit but never more than a block. Just writing this has me craving McLain's already.

Today's simple visit consisted of bottomless drip coffee and a chocolate chip cookie while getting some bright natural light to read my current book!

The space feels relaxed and approachable without trying too hard. Big open taproom, easy atmosphere, good energy. The kind of brewery where you can settle in for one beer and accidentally stay for five. Mary behind the bar was awesome right away. Friendly greeting the second I walked in, super knowledgeable about every beer on tap, and genuinely helpful without making anything feel scripted or sales-y. Hospitality matters to me a lot, and she made the experience feel welcoming immediately. I worked my way through quite a few beers: Hop Cuddle, the collaboration with Tall Trellis, their Mexican-style lager, Weathered Wit, Pavers Porter, and the rice lager. Every single one was excellent, but that rice lager was probably my favorite. Crisp, clean, refreshing, incredible mouthfeel -- one of those beers that disappears way faster than you planned. Weathered Wit deserves a shout too. Light tartness, citrus notes, classic Belgian yeast character, ridiculously refreshing. Everything you want from a witbier on a warm day and they absolutely nailed it. (beeradvocate.com) Also, I'm genuinely excited to see breweries collaborating again. Beer feels more fun when breweries are creating together instead of existing in separate lanes, and it's cool seeing that energy still alive in Kansas City craft beer.

It's definitely a spot I'd come back to on a normal weekend. The Drinks The Hits: The Hard Cherry Mash Sour Cider and the bright green Scooby Snack were both fantastic. The Miss: The Irish Coffee. They couldn't tell me what kind of coffee they used--a major red flag for a coffee cocktail. The Food (Bay Boy Specialty Sandwiches) They were serving sandwiches from Bay Boy alongside gourmet chips. I grabbed the El Jefe with Sweet Onion Hawaiian chips. The Sandwich: A killer Cuban-inspired build on their signature Dutch Crunch bread. That bread is the real deal--super crispy on the outside and soft inside. Because of the crowds it did take about 20 minutes to get our food but the girl behind the counter was really nice despite trying to serve hordes of celebratory drunkies. The Atmosphere Beyond the beer, the parking lot was full of food vendors and some really cool cars. Definitely worth checking out for the vibes alone!
