As a former piano minor in college, I was very picky. I had "tried out" several other piano teachers for my daughter. Ultimately, I chose Ms. Lee because of her warmth, her gentle, encouraging approach, and her attention to teaching the fundamentals (correct form, posture, theory, etc). My daughter loved her and looked forward to each lesson. Even though she played "simple" pieces, they were always fun and interesting. They kept her engaged and willing to practice. What I loved is that Ms. Lee also developed her musicality and her appreciation of music. I was impressed at how much my daughter advanced in a short period of time. Unfortunately, we moved out of the area, but she graciously continued her lessons virtually until we found a new teacher. As a parent, I loved how she was so communicative with the parents and how organized she was (e.g. Google doc notes for every lesson, online theory practice, easy invoicing for payments, studio classes, makeup lessons, and recitals). Not all teachers are so organized (I have three kids who all play instruments), and I appreciated how easy it was to work with her. And... Ms. Lee also still performs, too, with local Bay Area groups - she plays beautifully, always performing at the recitals. Her expectations are extremely high and unreasonable. She can seem nice at first, but is actually very passive aggressive and at times degrading. She is by far one of the worst piano teachers I've had. On top of that, the room was very crammed so I felt like I couldn't breathe at times which was not good since I get a lot of sneeze fits. The program was also on the expensive side. You might get a better teacher but I got unlucky with mine.

She doesn't just teach how to play piano, she teaches how to *perform* which is very different from most other piano teachers. I learned from a piano teacher when I was a child, so I can play the piano. But every time I listened to her lessons to our son, I always learned something new because I never learned any aspect related to performance, which is an art in and of itself. She taught him how to decipher the music and try to understand what the music and musician were saying, not just playing the notes like I learned. Performance aspects like scratching at the keys to give it a light touch, or even simpler things like playing repeated notes with multiple fingers instead of the same finger to make it sound more even and to preserve finger endurance. His understanding and love of music evolved the more he learned from Mandy and to the point where he listens to classical music on his way to and from school because he genuinely loves it. He even spent some parts of his lessons listening to and learning from Mandy about his favorites like Moonlight Sonata Movement 3.
