Next Level Braum's for Sure! It ruined me for the Texas Braum's. Seriously, this was at a completely different level from all Braum's I had previously gone to. The menu was the same though and the food and ice cream was delicious as well, just in a nicer setting!

East Buffet - An array of buffet food!

I ate here around 7pm on Saturday. Being in a smaller town, I was concerned about the…read morequality/selection (since buffets are dependent on high 'foot traffic'). In this sense, I didn't need to worry. Many of the traditional Chinese buffet items were available (soups, noodles, rice, shirimp, etc.) and some other touches that cater to those who enjoy kimchi, seaweed salad, small octopus, rice roll ("sushi"), and lychees. The quality of the food rivaled the quality in buffets I've visited that were two or three times the size. The foods were generally soy sauce/fish sauce based. I appreciated that approach (over some buffets that I have seen who use a lot of butter/mayonnaise to try to cater to perceived local preferences). Temperature was neither hot nor cold, though it is more difficult to regulate temperature in buffet food than individually prepared meals. As pleasantly surprised as I was with my ability to be satisfied with the food options and quality, I was equally disappointed with the customer service. It lacked the formal service of a larger restaurant and the friendly service of a small town restaurant. There is more to serving (even in a buffet) than placing customers in seats and clearing plates. I was not welcomed, rather asked "how many" and given a negative reaction when I said I that I was the only one in my party. The same reaction was given to the gentleman who arrived after I arrived (also a party of one). Each of us was "seated" by having a silverware roll thrown on the table (not placed pleasantly on the table or any question to see if the seat "suits the needs of the customer"). The drink order was accurate (I received a large/oversized glass of iced tea), but the service lacked the hospitality taught to servers in larger establishments (or tends to happen naturally in smaller town eateries). There was a little congestion at the buffet that I didn't expect as the staff slowly collected called-in 'To Go' orders from the buffet. It probably helps turn-over the buffet foods, but did make popular items difficult to access for a while. Plates were collected efficiently. The bill was brought at an appropriate time. Environmentally, the room was a bit dark and warm (reflecting the hot, humid day), but not unpleasant. The review (3 stars) was an average of the 4 (I rarely give 5s) I give the food and the 2 I give the service. Hospitality, however, can be a day-to-day experience. On the day I visited, the person who appeared to be the main server, seemed to be very involved with whatever she was listening to in her headphones. We customers seemed to be an unwelcome disruption to whatever she was doing on her headphones. Perhaps, it was a bad day to visit. Since I am local and can cook many of these dishes, in the future I will generally opt to cook these dishes at home. However, I do appreciate the restaurant's contribution to the diversity of the food scene in the area. I was impressed to see kimchi and other less common buffet dishes (even uncommon in larger buffets), giving the place a uniqueness that I appreciate. I just hope to see improvements in the hospitality. The food was good enough for me to have hope and the hospitality I received was tolerable in a pinch.

Somebody had a brilliant idea to lay out a pizza buffet, a decent salad bar and then...wonder of…read morewonders...a chicken dinner layout, buffet style! Where do I begin? Well, start with the pizza. Load a plate, as there are several to choose from. As if that isn't enough, you can also request your iwn toppings on a custom made pizza! You can take all of if to your table, or take a few slices. They put the rest on the pizza buffet bar. But wait! There's more! You can request a pizza with NO CRUST! My husband always scrapes toppings off, so he asked for just toppings. He got his own, special, crustless pizza! Mosey on down to the end of the pizza section, where you will find scrumptious dessert pizza. Keep going right. There are potato chips, made right there in house! Then, potato wedges, and then you realize you have begun to parcel together your chicken dinner. Corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy. Delicious gravy! A pile of fried chicken sits there, ready for you to fill your plate. The coating is scrumptious! The chicken is not dry, but cooked to a moist, juicy perfection! Try putting a little gravy on the chicken, then pull that skin off and eat it by itself. If that's not decadent, I don't know what is! Continue to your right and there is the salad bar. You know the basics, they are all right there. Are you counting your plates? You're not finished yet. Turn around. Look at all the drink options! Soda pop, tea, coffee. Pay attention to the ice cream machine. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Floats! Soda pop floats, all the different flavors on top of that soft ice cream! Woohoo! STOP! Don't forget the coffee! Try some hazelnut on top of that ice cream. Whew! Somebody roll me out of here, because I can barely walk after that epic, gluttonous feast! If you have kids, or even if you don't, you totally missed out if you don't check out the fun zone! It's a wonderful place to play and I'm headed there next to try and win a few duckies! See ya there!

Just to be upfront, I did not visit the casino or any of the restaurants aside from the one inside…read morethe water park so this review is pretty much based on the water park. I took my 2 kids for an overnight stay specifically for the waterpark. Booking online was easy, the rooms are about $200 per night and that includes waterpark access. Here's a list of pros and cons: Pros: *Parking was easy and relatively close to the entrance near the waterpark. *I requested a room closest to the waterpark and we definitely got that. *The waterpark is a decent size, much smaller than Great Wolf Lodge in KC but that was a perk for me since I'm a single mom taking 2 young kids. I was able to keep an eye on both of them no matter where I was in the park. *There's a snack cafe inside the waterpark with basic things like hot dogs, cotton candy, nachos, soda, and ice cream. The website says you're not supposed to bring your own food but I brought several bottles of water in my bag and no one said anything. *The lazy river was AWESOME! It's a good size that kept my kids entertained for hours and has jets that push you along in some spots so that kept it fun too. *There are slides for adults and bigger kids and for younger kids too. *There were plenty of chairs to put your stuff, lockers are available too but I didn't feel the need for them. *You can rent as many towels as you want for free, just make sure you return them or they are $15 each. *The restroom in the waterpark also has showers and stalls for changing clothes. The restroom was clean but the floor was VERY slippery when it was wet. I definitely recommend flip flops or water shoes. *Not overly crowded. Definitely more comfortable and more space than Great Wolf Lodge. Cons: *When we walked in to check in, not a single staff member at the desk greeted us or even appeared friendly. Finally a woman at the desk said "last name?" and that was her way of checking us in. *Obviously since it's a casino my kids immediately noticed the smell of cigarettes. Our hotel room on the beachfront side did not smell though. *The coffee shop and the more kid friendly restaurants outside the waterpark were not open, staff did not give a reason for this but it was disappointing as there isn't fast food close and this was my plan for our meals while here including breakfast. We ended up using Door Dash and ordering McDonald's for breakfast the next morning. *Our hotel room was a King bed with sofa sleeper. The room itself was nothing to write home about it, it was very basic and the TV was pretty small considering the size of the wall it was on. The sofa bed was dirty, there were pretzel crumbs on it and the mattress itself looked old and worn. You could feel the springs on it when you sat down. My son slept it on it and said it was fine, for an adult it would be miserable. There was a working mini fridge in the room, no microwave. The sheets/blankets were just okay. The room seemed like it was cleaned very quickly. *The waterpark hours suck. It is only open on Friday - Sunday. Opens at 4 PM Friday and not until 11 AM Saturday/Sunday. Keep in mind, other than a small overpriced arcade there's nothing for kids to do in the casino or surrounding area. My kids watched TV and played in the room but were really anxious to get to the waterpark so that was frustrating. *Most of the lifeguards seem to be attentive, there were a few that you could tell really didn't care to be there. Also I thought there would be more lifeguards, I only noticed 4. *The waterpark used to be accessible to guests only and recently they started offering day passes. I imagine this will mean a bigger crowd. Overall this is a great option if you're an hour or two at most away. I wouldn't drive more than an hour to get here. I would probably come back just because it is closer than Great Wolf Lodge and cheaper. If it gets more crowded due to Day Passes and if cost goes up then I won't be coming back.
