I was in a bind and finally had no choice but to do what I could to handle this on my own. The first company I called was this one. I called at 12:30am EST and after 2 rings, Greg picked up. He's the owner. He listened to my situation, calmed me down, and stated "I will help you." Word that NO ONE said at the airline nor DDD. I provided him with information, he promised me he would take care of me. I went to bed. At 11:00am, my son received his luggage. All I can say is LISTEN.RESPOND.DELIVER that is the slogan for this company. I am extremely grateful that Greg took my call and was willing to help a parent like me at 12:30am and do as he promised. The first year that I…read moregot a winter CSA (2007-08), the farm moved the pick-up spot to farther away from my home partway through the season, and I began searching for alternatives to my pedestrian self attempting to cart my box over a mile home on the icy, snowy sidewalks. The CSA recommended I go with Metro Pedal Power, who would deliver it for only $3 extra per week. They didn't have many delivery people yet then, so I had the same one nearly every week. He was extremely friendly and helpful, remembered my instructions from week to week, and would always check to see if I had stuck a note on my door with extra instructions for that week. I continued receiving my winter CSA via them the following year, and also began using them for occasional other deliveries. They carted my laptop to a repair service downtown (and back), and I was more than happy to have them do it because I trusted them and felt better knowing my laptop was safe and secure in their delivery cart rather than being loose on the personage of another courier. They also got indignant on my behalf when the repair service forgot to include my power cord and I contacted them asking if they would be able to go back and get it, and expressed relief on my behalf when I contacted them again that the repair service had agreed to have an employee drop it off at my home on the way home. Since that time they have also delivered my laptop a second time (round trip) and delivered large bags of cat litter for me (there is a weight fee for large deliveries, but it is only a $5 surcharge). They have also gone above and beyond for me in scheduling whenever I explain that there is a reason I need a particular task done a particular day. There are a lot more delivery people now - yay for local businesses that can grow well! - so I often see different faces, but the employees remain friendly and helpful. Now that the Winter Farmers' Market is going to run all winter this year (2011-12), I am planning to stop my winter CSA after three years getting it and shop there instead, but I remain happy with Metro Pedal Power and plan to continue using their courier services.
