We also wanted to try two of their Table d'hôte, prix fixe menu offerings, so we could try as much as possible. The restaurant itself is quite cosy and we opted to sit outside on the terrace. It was a little noisy from the neighbors. but otherwise, quite lovely. Our server was wonderful. He had a great sense of humor and was quite charming. We decided to order two Table d'hôte menus, "The Great Day" (we'd had a great day, so that was fitting; although I like the name they chose for it in French, "la Gourmandise" because I'm a foodie, but I digress). It consisted of an entrée + main dish + dessert for the exceptional value of $50pp. The offerings were too good to choose from. Here's what we decided on: entrées: Deer terrine with berries, candied onions and homemade croutons Thinly-sliced smoked duck breast, pear and balsamic glaze main dishes: The Shipwreck-grilled scallops and shrimp on creamy risotto with Hatley cheese & a tropical salad. The Haunch: Lamb shank with provençal sauce, old cheddar based mashed potatoes and and vegetable bouquet Desserts: orange infused crème brûlée Soft chocolate cake with a heart of caramel Verdict: Everything was so beautifully plated and delicious, in copious amounts. Truly generous-sized portions. I had no room for dessert (the server gave us a nice pause in between, which helped!) The terrine was well prepared and the onion confit, sauces and berries that accompanied it were bursting with flavor. It was fantastic. The thinly sliced smoked duck breast with pear was equally amazing. The scallops were perfectly pan seared and the shrimp were perfectly grilled. The cheese risotto was creamy, perfectly seasoned and slightly al dente. The dish included lemon and lime wedges, which added a lively citrus boost to the already amazing flavor. The large lamb shank was fork tender and again perfectly seasoned, falling off the bone. My only slight critique is that the potatoes and the beets that came with it needed a little more seasoning-but otherwise, the dish overall was excellent. The desserts were to die for. I've never considered adding Grand Marnier or other orange liqueur to crème brûlée, but it was a great idea. The chocolate cake was moist and the marriage of flavors with the chocolate and candied berry topping was perfect. A truly exceptional meal. I will definitely come back here.

Coffee, crêpes & service were very good. However they don't have ice for glasses of water! The fruit salad that comes with the crêpes is canned when I would much prefer fresh, and it contains papaya, which at first I thought was odd but it did taste good. I was a little disappointed but I was thinking about crêpes and fresh fruit with a maple syrup & cream sauce l'd had a few times at Cochon Dingue, a restaurant in Sillery, Quebec City. Their crêpes come with lots of fresh fruit and are much more delicate as well. I've just checked their current menu and they have switched the sauce for a raspberry coulis, which sounds interesting. Anyway, those crêpes cost at least twice as much and it's necessary to have a reservation to be sure of getting any! And of course it's quite a long drive form Sherbrooke! I'm going to try to mix a little coffee cream with some of the maple syrup at Chez Charlie when I go later this week and see how I like it. I do want to point out that the coffee at Charlie's, as the person who took me there calls it, is very very much better than one would expect from a small neighbourhood restaurant. In the past few years, it appears they have branched out into other meats, vegetarian and healthy dishes. They now offer hamburgers. Many of their dishes are sold in grocery store frozen food section for you to prepare at home. One of the trademarks of St Hubert is their unlimited, free servings of cole slaw. They have two types: one with a mayonnaise base and another with a vinegar base. Both are very good. Don't load up on cole slaw because you have the main course coming and possibly one of their many desserts. On our visit, we both selected the St. Hubert Bowl, a limited time special from the menu. This was one of their healthy dishes that features shredded chicken, black beans, lettuce, brown rice and cucumber. Our bowl was topped with piri piri sauce, an African sauce made from chili, lemon, peppers and other spices. Overall, we felt the dish was good but not great. We both rated it at 3 1/3 stars, so I rounded it up. St. Hubert is not one if our favorite restaurants. The food is slightly above average and the service is slow. This was the first time in years that we have eaten here. It is, however, good enough. We will eventually return.
