I had my first tattoo by Slim. She was great. Very low key, listened to what I was looking for and was ready to roll when I walked in. I am so happy with her work I would not go anywhere else or with anyone else. The rest of the shop had a cool vibe. Lots of artist but everyone had space. read more

I waited a long time to get my tattoo and am so glad I did and managed to have Mario do it. His work ethic, talent, and warmth is top class. He did a matching tattoo for my daughter the next day. I couldn't recommend him enough. read more

Came in from NJ with my family (our 7month old son's first trip to Maine!) and wanted to commemorate the trip with a tattoo of his footprints. This was a studio I'd been following and was hopeful for an appt. Was able to chat with Kara and we found time that worked. Everyone at the shop was smiling and friendly and Kara was so welcoming. We had a great time chatting while she worked (very efficiently at that!). Her creativity with the design was amazing and the tattoo exceeded my expectations. I love it! Kara is a gem and wonderful at her chosen profession. Check these guys out if you want a tattoo! Thanks, guys! read more

Review for piercings only. Nick Holes (uber-certified, ultra-friendly, super-qualified piercer extraordinaire) is the ONLY person I'd recommend getting pierced from in the Portland peninsula. No need to worry about infections, misplaced piercings, or going to someone who's more concerned with profit than safety; Nick takes sanitation/piercing care/other precautions very seriously. He is a very calming presence and is great at talking through the piercing process as well as much-needed important aftercare. The space is small yet welcoming and is central to Portland's downtown. Couldn't recommend more!!! read more

I decided to get my ears re-pierced after not having them in a while. I'm so glad I found this place. Nick is patient, knowledgeable and very gentle. I felt very at ease with the whole situation. I definitely recommend going to him rather than hitting up a mall like place. read more

I sent t photos of the style I wanted for a coverup . after 1st session I told them I was not happy with the result . Not realistic at all . Spear can't be held in place in the crook of the arm by an elbow . Looked up horse coloring book online . Picture is close to my tattoo .She has talent but not for anything resembling anything realistic. read more

My child and I talked about getting a matching tattoo for years. Part of the wait was finding a tattoo artist that used vegan products that I felt comfortable with. Her art work and proffessionalism are exceptional. She engaged with us the entire time, getting to know us and making sure we were comfortable through the entire process. I was so impressed that I already recommended her to a friend and her son. The studio and tools used were clean, the ink opened in front of you, and her ink tool and armrest were both wrapped in plastic. I would highly recommend Kara. Wendy H read more

Mario is awesome! I got a a tattoo last year with Mario and liked it so much I can back this year. He's the man and everyone at Brass and Briar is great. read more

Nick was so incredibly professional. Both my 16 year old son and I both got nostril piercings. He talked us through the entire process VERY thoroughly. The studio is clean and welcoming. The jewelry options are nice. I thought the price was very reasonable. I definitely would (will?) go back. There's a good reason he's the best. read more

I recently got a daith piercing from Nick Holes at Brass and Briar, and it was a great experience!! Nick was incredibly professional and created a safe and comforting space. He was so swift and skilled that I experienced little discomfort. I will 1,000% be going back in a few months to get more piercings from Nick! read more

Brass & Briar Studios - Daith piercing from Nick Holes at Brass and Briar. - Tattoo Near Me - Portland, Maine

So this studio is by far the best. I can't say enough about it. This time I was in for a smaller piece and had a fantastic experience with Leah. She was so sweet and I loved her personality. Just an all around pleasure to work with. And the tattoo is exactly what I wanted. She even made changes on the fly. Stellar. It's a hike for me to get there, but I seriously can't complain because they are simply the BEST at what they do. read more

Rebeka does amazing and consistent work. She is thorough with consultations and transparent about pricing and time frame. She checked in with me multiple times throughout to make sure I was comfortable and happy. There are snack and water stations throughout the studio as well. The studio itself is beautiful and alive with plants, art, and fish. My experiences here have made me not want to go anywhere else as this place is at a level I feel no other studio has achieved. Rebeka is well worth the wait read more

I had two piercings done with Nick about a year ago (they've healed perfectly!) and I could not have asked for a better experience! He was deeply compassionate and clearly dedicated to doing his best and working with me, while in a very chill and welcoming atmosphere! My piercings were a special case because I have scarring and not only did he take that in stride and work with me like he did it every single day, he was kind, professional, and clearly super knowledgeable and prepared. He takes his work seriously and really cares about your result and making sure nothing is unexpected or done without your full understanding and consent! On top of his excellent work, the new location is fantastic- and I appreciated the tank out front full of very happy fish! All in all a great time, and I'll definitely be going back for my next piece! I'd recommend Brass & Briar to anyone! read more

I just had my second piercing appointment with Nick and I can't say enough about his professionalism, skill, and experience. I originally went to see him last year to reopen a lobe hole that had closed up on me. When I decided I wanted to work on new ear stacks, I emailed Nick about what I envisioned. He was able to help me understand the best way to group the piercings I wanted and how to space them out over time. He let me know that he needed to check my ears to see if the lobe additions I want would work with my ear anatomy, which he did (and they will!). We made a plan to start with a same side rook and conch, and made a schedule for going forward. I'm super happy with the way the piercings came out and Nick, as always, is a perfectionist with a deft hand. He's super communicative the entire time and checks in frequently. Everything is super sanitary, all the needles are sterile and opened in front of you during the appointment and the aftercare instructions are super thorough. It's clear that Nick loves what he does and takes a lot of pride in doing well. I can't recommend him enough. read more

I love Brass and Briar! Have you been to their newest location?! It's beautiful and unique! This studio and the artists that work there stand out from the rest. I go to Rebeka Chase. She is phenomenal from her personality to her skills. We are currently working on a cover up project from an early 2000s chest piece.... We initially had the consult and from that conversation and photo examples I provided - Rebeka drew the perfect tattoo for me. She was able to create the perfect drawing of exactly what I wanted! My first cover up appointment consisted of line work and it went by even faster than I anticipated because Rebeka works fast and efficiently. Her line work is out of this world. Her technique is light and fast. Wow, she is literally fast af. Also, she is funny af and makes a potentially painful experience fun! I love Rebeca! The best! Xo.... I look forward to many, many more appointments!! read more

This was my first time to Brads and Briar and upon entering the studio I was impressed. The studio was clean, I was greeted warmly and felt immediately comfortable. I got my nose pierced by Nick Holes. He was extremely professional, clean and told me everything that was going to happen. The piercing was a breeze. Highly recommend. read more

I had a tattoo done by Kara Munro over the weekend and I cannot say enough good things about Kara and the whole shop! Kara took the time to really listen to what I wanted and drew a beautiful design that was exactly what I was hoping for. Even when I requested minor changes during the process, she was super chill about it and really went above and beyond to ensure that I had the design I wanted. I was actually moved to tears when it was done! I would definitely recommend Brass & Briar for any tattoo or piercing (even though I didn't get a piercing, I did observe how professional and clean the facility was, and the detailed instructions given before and after the piercing). read more

I can't say enough kind things about Leah at Brass and Briar. From our first contact, to going back-and-forth via email on designs, and altering designs in studio, she was super prepared and understood my vision exactly! I went in for two small sticker-style tattoos and she both prepared me for the longevity of the look, and worked with me to give me exactly what I wanted. On top of her professionalism, she was wonderful to chat to and put me completely at ease. My hour-long session felt like 15 minutes. I couldn't recommend her highly enough! read more

I am so happy with the gorgeous work Ethan did. He was fun to work with, increadibly talented as an artist, and humble (when he doesn't need to be). Great new digs, a wonderful vibe, and a stellar result. I'll be going back for sure. read more

My first-tattoo experience with Rebeka was amazing. I had an idea of the artwork I wanted, but was relying on her to help bring my concept to fruition. Happily, she created a piece that exceeded my expectations in every way. It required two sessions to complete, and I was amazed that the time passed so quickly and easily. Many of the Studio artists stopped by as Rebeka worked, to share their new art and see my piece. All were friendly and engaging, and showed me photos of work that was beautiful and inventive. I absolutely recommend the B&B team! read more

My husband and I are visiting Boston for the first time. We decided to take a trip along the coast and decided to get a tatt to remember our trip. We walked in, hoping an artist was available. We ended up leaving our # just in case. We received a call about an hour later, and we booked right away. Our tattoo artist was Holly and she did an amazing job. I felt we clicked right away. Def recommend this shop. Everyone we saw was very friendly and the shop looks amazing. read more

I had both of my nipples pierced with Nick Holes and he was fantastic through the entire process. He was very thorough with communicating what would happen before the piercing, and very good at explaining the care instructions for the piercings as well. I had been debating for years on getting them done (I'm in my 40's) and after reading the good reviews of Brass & Briar online I decided to go for it.
