I'm setting at home in major pain, this is not the FOI that i was first in counter in 1998, FOI office on Fletcher Ave, the care i got there was outstanding, went to the Brandon office out of convenience, i visited on 6/20/24 got xray no meds, was to follow up with therapy, how ever my pain level elevated over the weekend, back in the office on Monday morning 6/24/24, got injection in lower back and methpredisone packet and muscle relaxer, MRI schedule for 6/27/24, unable to complete due to me not able to lie flat, on 6/24 Dr. try to examine me on table and i was unable to lie flat at that time, so why do you schedule a patient for a MRI that require one to lie flat. I call there Brandon office today 7/1/24 and all i got was the number for the Dr. Administrative assistant with no voice mail. Both my husband and I have come here out of convenience to see an orthopedoc doctor for sports injuries relating to running - the office is closest to our house and only one of a few Ortho docs in the area. ** We've had bad experiences every time we've come here ** 1) Each time we've both waited almost an hour and a half or more just to be seen - I understand waiting at the doctor's office, but going on lunch break or before or after work it's not feasible to get in at the time appointments are made 2) While waiting, we just hear the staff is right outside of our door chatting about. There's no one checking in on you, they bring you into a room, tell you to wait and you're in there..for a while. While you hear them outside just talking about their weekends and other nonsense. 3) The Doctors we've seen aren't geniune or friendly. They're very straight forward and want to see you repeatedly to eat up your insurance. Even when there's no need, they recommend PT at their partner office instead of working through self care. 4) The front staff is clueless about insurance benefits and I've seen them use a 'cheat sheet' for reference - they go back and forth asking others questions instead of knowing how to process payment 5) Surgery is always encouraged here. I've been for a cyst on my food where surgery was my 'only option' for relief, when I ended up having it go away on its own eventually and with self care. My husband had 1 surgery, no proper care or follow up afterwards, and ended up needing a second surgery to get him to running again. It took almost 2 years total. I am definitely going to another to orthopedic doc going forward. I'm currently marathon training and will need care ongoing - but want to find a trustworthy doctor. I'd would rather drive farther to see a better doctor. read more

This practice does not even deserve one star. They are definitely everything that is wrong with the medical situation in America today. They want to over bill your insurance as much as possible just to line the pockets of the doctors. We are cash pay and I called to find out the cost to put a cast on for a fracture. The girl who answered the phone was very rude and dismissive. She told me that their charge was $550 at the window as a deposit just to see the doctor and the treatment for a fracture would be "well over $1000". The implication was clear. Obviously, she thinks that I don't have the money to pay $1000 to put a cast on for fracture. While it's true that I will not pay that amount because it's ridiculous, I certainly have the money and could pay it if I have to. I did not appreciate her attitude as soon as I said that we are cash pay she just acted like we were the scum of the earth. We would not be able to be cash pay if we didn't have enough money set aside to deal with medical emergencies when they arise. I'm pleased to report that I found another doctor to put the cast on for only $200. His name is Dr. Hunt and he's up on Fletcher Avenue near USF. Just FYI. Also, I did have Brandon orthopedic put a cast on my other son a few years ago when we did have insurance through my job. Now I wish that I had not done that because I know that they probably billed my insurance thousands and thousands of dollars for something that really should only cost a few hundred. This is why our medical insurance situation is the way that it is in America. This is the reason we had to have the affordable care act, which is the reason why I do not have insurance anymore. Small businesses cannot afford to provide health insurance for their employees thanks to Obamacare. All this did was take the uninsured people and move them from being the lower middle-class to the regular middle class. I'm lucky that we do make enough money that we are able to pay for health care with cash. But I certainly think it's ridiculous. Thanks, Obama. read more

Whatever you do stay the hell away from this office. I saw Dr. Lopez who is by far the most unprofessional medical doctor I have ever worked with in my entire existence. He performed a surgery that was medically not necessary and has created a medical issue I never had and my left hand that he operated is so dysfunctional now I cannot hold, grip, push, pull on anything! I'm in disbelief almost a year later that he ruined the operation of my left hand. Has left me with a left hand that has not been the same since the surgery. He also has the worse bed side manners, did not see me on follow up appointments even though he was the one who performed the surgery. I had another doctor inform me that Dr. Lopez performed the endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery when I only had mild MILD carpal tunnel. This is how medical malpractice lawsuits are instituted because of doctors like this. It's extremely unacceptable in a country like the US that we have doctors lurking around looking to suck the life of it's own patients with their main concern on filing non-stop insurance claims. Not only did this doctor create a problem that was never there but pretty much caused unreversed nerve damage. read more

Dr. Okun performed surgery on my husband and was very caring and knowledgeable. We were at the Sun City Center office for a follow-up; my husband was expecting a transport van to pick him up. While waiting over two and a half hours, the girls in the Sun City Center office were so helpful, checking on us, getting a cold drink, asking if we needed anything else, They took time to make sure we were as comfortable as possible and I would like to thank them all for their kindness and attention. Worst assistants I have ever seen from especially billing, to receptionist, and nurse and physician's assistant. The Drs sell you on their expertise and of course an operation and once the operation is over could care less about your recovery and therapy if it isn't through their affiliate therapy co. and have to be continually reminded to send information to your therapist of choice. The Dr.s seem oblivious to the problems and don't want to be bothered I would r recommend this money grubbing outfit. read more

Never again. I have attempted to see an actual doctor, not a PA, 4x and something always happens. The 1st and 2nd time, I got a call for rescheduling ... this was fine. The 3rd time, I go to the office for my appointment and the receptionist actually says "Did you get a call to reschedule", REALLY, would I have shown up if I did. This was a waste of time and loss of pay. I rescheduled for another doctor. The 4th and FINAL time, I go to the office and the new doctor is running late. My appointment was at 8:45, they tell me that the doctor should be in around 9:30. This was fine but when I asked the reception if I can see someone else, they said this was fine. But when I inquired as to how many people were ahead of me, there were 7 people and a few in the waiting room. With the average time to see a patient is about 10-15 minutes, I would probably see a medical staff over an hour later. I just left and did not reschedule. It appears this office does not value anyones time but their own, If they knew the doctor was going to be late, they should have given a courtesy call to the patients. Apparently, if one is late for their appointment they can either see you or cancel the appointment. But when a doctor is late, that is okay. Like I said, THEY DON'T VALUE THE PATIENTS TIME. Time to go see another practice and warn anyone not to bother with this place. They aren't the only Ortho practice in the neighborhood. read more

I can not even give this place one star. The lobby was dirty and front office staffers could not keep up with the customers. Instead of conserving energy for the crippled patient they kept calling the person up there 2-3 times. Total disregard for any one with injuries. Plus the worst part of this whole experience was waiting 2 1/2 hours in the lobby to just go back to a doctor!!!!!! This is not acceptable. Plus, they have affiliation with South Bay Hosp. With an office in Sun City Center.... horrid hospital that I had a terrible experience with being told I would die within days if I left the hospital to get a second opinion.This office was pushed on my loved one by a relative and shame on me I should have known better and found another place. We did not leave until 3 hours had passed. Yes an hour to wait for a doctor in the exam room!!! See them at your own risk. read more

Have been to office a good number of times in last two years. Dr. Okun and his assistant Tommy, are pleasant to deal with and know their stuff! Injections I have received took care of my pain and I was able to walk 4-miles every morning... Without feeling my knee was going to give out. Tommy's personality helped with the procedure...didn't have to bite a stick! The front-desk staff has improved and makes things go smoothly. I was taken back EXACTLY at my appointment time today! The waiting time can be longer sometimes, but no longer than any other doctor/dentist offices. read more

Yes we had to wait almost an hour - not pleasant but not unusual for a busy practice. We did not have to wait too long once in the exam room - however - the follow-up call by one of the staff to schedule surgery for a cyst was rude, unprofessional, and unpleasant. The Dr. had told me to wait to see how my cyst progressed over after a few weeks - when I was called to schedule surgical removal I was accused of turning down surgery during my first visit. I was not even allowed to speak until the caller - who shall remain unnamed - finished insulting me. This will be reported to the doctors. I called after the New Year's weekend for an appointment with Brandon Orthopedic because of my wife's experience with Florida Orthopedic had always had endless waiting time and the general sense in the crowded waiting room that it was a cattle drive. Well, I couldn't get an appointment for two weeks with Brandon Orthopedic and found the same waiting time issue. But I wanted to see Dr. Okun because of a friend's recommendation. I found him personable and knowledgeable, and the Sun City Center staff was quite helpful. The person at the window was bilingual in English and Spanish and was patient with those who just walked in for appointments. I have a pretty good understanding of what is driving the business aspect of Orthopedic medicine here in Florida -- older people have bad backs, hips, knees, feet, etc. because that's what happens as we age -- and I am one of those folks. The demand is greater than the supply, and if you saw the costs of the overhead for doctors, you might wonder why anyone would spend the money and college time to get into the profession. In general, Obama care and Medicare regulations and restrictions on the medical industry do not encourage people to become general practitioners, but specialists, and the general public then has to deal with the supply and demand aspect. That's the result of government subsidy -- and nothing is free, so we pay it with taxes and our time waiting. read more

I have had it with this practice. I have never experienced another medical practice so poorly run. Currently sitting in a room going on an hour. No one has checked on us since putting us in here and this is after almost 45 minutes in the waiting room. It is 90 minutes after the appointment time and it is like this every.single.time. My spouse's surgery did not go well this time and appropriate follow up has been severely lacking. Time to find a new orthopedic surgeon! read more

I had an appointment with the office for 11. I took my lunch hour and drove over to the facility at 10:30 only to be told I had to go to Bay Care to get an x-ray done. I went to the x-ray facility and checked in, and after 20 minutes I asked when I would expect to be seen. I was told they didn't have the prescription order for the x-ray. I was told I had to go back to Brandon Ortho to get the prescription. I went to the office and the staff was rude and acted like I was inconveniencing them. I asked to have the prescription called over and reminded them that I had an appointment at 11. I was told they would take care of it and to back to Bay Care to get the x-ray. I went back to Bay Care and proceeded to wait over 30 minutes. I checked back in and they had to call to get the script faxed over. Bay Care got me back immediately to complete the x-rays and I ran back over to Brandon Ortho. I arrived at 11:45 and was told that they would not be able to see me that I would need to reschedule my appointment. (UNACCEPTABLE). I ended up rescheduling my appointment for the next day. I took my lunch hour and drove over to the facility and despite there being not one person in the facility, I waited over 30 minutes just to be acknowledged while the staff stood at the reception window gossiping. I interjected to remind them I had an appointment and I was on my lunch break and after waiting another 10 minutes was finally taken to a room to wait for the physician. I waited in this room for another 30 minutes while I listened to the staff continue to gossip in the hall. When the nurse practitioner came in he spent less than five minutes looking at me and diagnosed me with tendonitis. When I went to check out I was told that I had to pay $550 despite the fact that this was an auto claim due to an accident and they had been made aware of this when I called to make the initial appointment. The reception staff said it's the facilities policy to collect an additional $550 "deposit" to cover anything insurance might not cover. I asked what the charges were and was told they didn't know yet (WHAT???) so I asked for a copy of the services rendered/invoice for that day and was told they couldn't give me one until they received a response from the insurance provider. I was forced to pay $550 and not even given clarification on what the charges were/would be or a receipt. I called my insurance provider and she got involved and after 4 weeks I received my money back but it took hours on the phone with the billing department. In addition, this office appears to have tried to price gauge my insurance company by charging them nearly $2000 for a less than a five minute office visit without even being seen by a DOCTOR. They were entitled to less than $150 according to my insurance rep. I will never go back to this facility. The staff is rude, I was misdiagnosed by someone not even qualified to make the diagnosis (I have a rotator cuff tear that requires surgery and not getting this treated immediately/correctly has exasperated the issue).
