I have gone to Brakes plus quite a few times , and even when it was city garage. I've spent an ample amount of dollars here. I didn't have any issues until Brakes Plus took over. I received a starter and valve cover replacement at the end of April of 2024. According to Scott, the valve cover had leaked all over the starter which could potentially lead to problems and I may need a starter he said. He said he would try to save my original starter. After he worked on it, it had started having starting issues. That's when he replaced the starter. It was fine for a few months, until it began starting/cranking up intermittently around September of 2024. The car would not crank all the way or would make clicking sounds. Sometimes it would crank right away, other times not. I called Scott and told him what was happening and said to bring it in . He kept it a few hours and said he didn't see a problem and that the car needed to duplicate the sound I was hearing. Not once did he mention it "may" be a bad starter part that was put on, which could easily be a possibility. I took my car back, a few weeks later, it wouldn't start again. Again, I called the shop, Scott picks up I explain what;s happening again. He said he'll check it out for no charge and to bring it the next day which was Saturday. Again, he said nothing was wrong with starter after leaving in their garage a few hours. He said something to the effect that he charged my car for awhile and its not the starter that's the problem according to him.
Several more months went by, still with same issues. My car would crank, yet sometimes I'd have to try 3 times and wait in between half cranks before it turned all the way over. It grew more frustrating dealing with an issue that I knew was the problem yet told that isn't it. I got more opinions on my car. In March, last week I was too fed up with the callous demeanor of Just Brakes (Scott mainly), and decided to visit a Honda dealer. I mentioned to service tech/advisor what was happening and he said I can almost guarantee you, it's your starter. I told him that I had bought a starter from Brakes plus and yet continually am told it's not the problem although it doesn't start half the time at first crank. I told the tech at the dealer tht every 5th or 6th crank (sometimes less), the car won't start on first try. He reached my ignition, turned the key/cranked maybe 7 to 8 times to "duplicate" what I had been hearing all along. He asked was that the sound, I told him, "Yes!" He said , "That's your starter." I knew it all along but couldn't prove it. He told me if I had a warranty to go back and have Brakes plus fix it. I did better than that and called corporate office in Colorado.
Long story short, Scott called me(from brakes plus) pretending like he was clueless about the whole ordeal and told me to come in right away (after the regional manager heard about my complaint) and he'd get my car straight. Of course I was rather livid yet rather relieved, thanks to his boss. I told Scott that he knew there was an issue with the starter all along. He simply did not want to honor my warranty! I told him how that was unethical practices. The even more diabolical thing is that he said the warranty on the starter he replaced, expires the same time as the other he had put on. The time should have been extended. I had a bad starter all along and that time frame I should have had with the current one. So basically it was a month of warranty on this current one.
