We gave this new daycare a try since it offers a promotional discount for new kids when this daycare just opened. This just brought us unpleasant experiences.
1. The daycare ran out of water cups one day and my kid did not get a drop of liquid the entire day in the daycare in this hot summer (June 2022). She came home with severe headache. When I picked her up that day, she told me immediately that she was thirsty. I asked the teacher why she did not get water. The teacher said the daycare did not have cups that day. When I asked the assistant director, she said that the teacher was supposed to take the kids to the water fountain to drink water. No one made sure my kid drank water that day. When I spoke with the assistant director later, she said that the daycare actually had cups but they were placed in a place that the staff did not know about. It does not matter if they have cups or not, the communication between the management and the staff is broken, and no liquid was offered for my kid for an entire day. No one cares here.
2. This second issue happened a few days after the first one. I know my kid does not like apple juice and asked the daycare to offer her water instead. My kid said the teacher did not offer her water because there was no water in the classroom. I called the daycare that evening and the assistant director responded immediately that it was not true without investigating. I asked to speak with the teacher. My kid told me in front of the teacher that the teacher did not give her water. But the teacher said she offered water. My kid does not have a habit of lying and she usually could tell me exactly what happened. Since both parties have the ability to say a lie, I asked to review the video recording in the classroom. The assistant director told me parents are not allowed to view the recording. Then I asked the assistant director to review it for me. She agreed and said she will review the next day. My request was made within 48 hours of the incident. The next day when I picked up my kid, I asked about the recording review. The assistant director told me the recording was only saved for 48 hours, so she was not able to review. I decided to pull my child out of this daycare in case something worse happens and there will be no recording to review.
3. Ms. Kayley told me when I toured the daycare that kids will be offered quiet activities if they cannot nap. My kid seldom naps, so I asked if she got to have quiet activities. My kid said she only had quiet activities twice in that month. The first time was when Ms. Kayley came into the room and noticed it was noisy in the room and all kids were kept on the nap mats unwillingly by the teacher. The second time was requested by me. The teacher confirmed that she usually won't have quiet activities for the kids since they nap in a the gym. When I spoke with Ms. Kayley, she said they told the teacher to give the kids quiet activities when they cannot nap. Keeping my kid on the nap mat everyday for 2 hours while she could not nap is an unpleasant experience for her. The management seemed to have a process in mind, but they won't monitor to ensure it is carried out by the teacher.
4. I gave a full two week notice to pull my kid out of the daycare and her last day was 6/30/2022. The daycare won't prorate for the 4 day week. I was fine with that. However, when I paid the last tuition, they wanted to charge me an annual supply fee which will be due after our last day of daycare. This was not communicated to me in advance, so I complained about it and wanted to be charged for just 1 month since we were there for 1 month only. This amount was eventually waived.
The teachers did not seem to be mean to the kids, but the management needs to be improved to provide better care for the kids. read more
