Background: When covid happened, we pulled our daughter, Mackenzie, out of preschool that spring and she stayed out of the school environment through the summer. She started kindergarten virtually, but unfortunately, she was one that did not build a good enough foundation to help her succeed in her schoolwork, even after they went back in person. Fall 2022: Fast forward to this school year, and we're at parent teacher conferences reviewing her MAP scores. She was essentially reading at a kindergarten level, and performing at a 1st-ish grade level in math. So, we needed to do something to help her catch up. We researched several places local centers and also considered private tutoring from teacher friends. We decided on The Tutoring Club for several reasons: 1) We liked the director, Jessica, who had the same ideology of how we learned "back when we were in school" and how their curriculum supported it. 2) We liked the flexibility to help Mackenzie with her school work, in addition to the curriculum they had her do. 3) We liked that it's a brick and mortar. We can always count on them being there, and they are also reasonable with absences - if we had to miss a day here and there because of our other extracurricular activities. Mackenzie started attending tutoring in mid-October and went for 2 hour sessions, 3 days a week. She loved it! The tutors incentivized the work so that she had a goal. They made it fun for her, and it motivated her to want to learn to read. The tutors are friendly and they made the experience enjoyable for her. Spring 2023: It's now May, and we received Mackenzie's final MAP scores of the year. Her test scores substantially grew over the entire school year, and she is now above grade level for both subjects! I would attribute her success completely to the work that the Tutoring Club has done with her, as we never changed anything in our home life. We are so grateful for the help that the Tutoring Club provided, and again, we highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great tutoring center in North Las Vegas!

After some consideration, we ultimately decided to part ways after the scholarship concluded. Everything seemed fine until it came time to collect my children's belongings. Prior to starting school, the administration asks for 5-7 full outfit sets per child, depending on the class and if your child is undergoing potty training, in addition to other items like blankets, towels, etc The first bag of belongings the school gathered for me only contained blankets. Keep in mind, I had two kids attend this school. I wasn't given any heads-up about the lack of clothing and failed to check the bag until I got home as I genuinely trusted the staff to do their due diligence and collect everything. So I called to inquire about the other clothing and it took about 3-4 follow-ups until I was finally told to come pick up the clothing. However, this second bag did not include a single t-shirt or pair of socks. I was told they would search for those items and that I would get an update the following week, but never received a call. When I would call, the faculty would pass me off to each other, each assuring me they were working on finding the remaining clothes and apologizing for not getting back to me. It was obvious they wanted me to just forget about it. They mentioned searching through the laundry room, multiple classrooms, and other rooms. How all those t shirts and socks just disappear is beyond me. Not to mention, my son's favorite Bluey towel and a very nice North Face jacket. After waiting another week, I emailed the director, Lily Hernandez, to express my frustration over the situation. She's always been quick to email back so I was sure she'd offer a resolution. Wrong! She completely ignored me - not a peep. I waited and sent another email but still received nothing. I called and asked for her a few times but was always told she wasn't there. That being said, I've never experienced this level of unprofessionalism, particularly from the director of an educational institution. It was clear she couldn't care less about losing my kids' clothing now that I'm not paying the school. I'm still shocked by the lack of accountability, and this unfortunately highlights the sad state of today's educational climate, where any random, unqualified person can apparently wiggle their way up the administrative ladder without any genuine values or integrity, and end up running a school. I was the President of the PTO and spent hours of my own time and hundreds of dollars to support the school. This year, she had a few minor issues related to her autism and tic disorder come up that were completely blown out of proportion, and within a month she ended up being kicked out. She was not a bully and not violent. They did very little to work with her, and when we requested supports and accommodations they were refused. We have a pending discrimination case open with the state of Nevada and will be filing a complaint with the Nevada Department of Education. We are devastated with how this was handled. Though they claim to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for all students, this was not the case with us and it has happened to other families as well. Be wary of this school!

In October of last year, my son was enrolled at Starfish Scholars. I chose this school after having a very negative experience at a previous daycare where I felt the teachers simply did not care. At that point, I made the decision that sometimes you truly get what you pay for. Even though this school was a little outside of my budget, the moment I walked in, I felt peace. I genuinely believed my son would be safe, cared for, and protected there. One thing that made me feel even more comfortable was the fact that they offered cameras for parents. Ironically, I never even logged into them because I trusted the environment so much. Every single day after pickup, I would ask my son how his day was, and during the first couple of weeks he seemed happy and excited to be there. Then things started to change. Around the second week, he began telling me he missed his old teacher. I didn't think too much of it at first because he also spoke positively about Ms. (JASMINE/YASMINE), saying she was nice to him and gave him snacks, which made him happy. One day, while talking to him about behavior at school and asking if he had been a good boy, we started discussing the cameras. That's when he told me something that completely stopped me in my tracks. He said, "The cameras only work for the kids, not the teachers." I asked him what he meant by that, and he began explaining that during nap time, his teacher had been touching him. As any parent would, I immediately contacted the police and filed a report. From my perspective, however, it felt like very little was actually done besides questioning the teacher. Life moved on for everyone else, except for my son. Since then, anytime teachers are brought up, he gets a fearful look on his face. What hurts even more is that my own sister is a teacher, and he now seems afraid around her too. It genuinely feels like he believes all teachers are unsafe. He no longer wants to go to school, and honestly, I don't blame him. When I informed the administration that I would be withdrawing him and explained why, the response felt cold, dismissive, and completely lacking empathy. As a parent, that was heartbreaking. I cannot recommend this school to any parent who simply wants to know their child is safe, protected, and genuinely cared for.
