I'm going to have a rewrite the review of this pub namely because I decided to stop off here for a…read moredrink on my way back to Melbourne. It was a good thing that my Dad was driving mind you because by spending so long in Adelaide I automatically ordered a schooner, when I actually wanted a pot. Anyway, I'd stopped here a couple of times in the past but I decided to check this place out again. The first thing that struck me is that they do things differently in the country - for instance if you are in a pub in the city (by yourself), and you go to the toilet then you can be guarenteed that your beer will not be there when you return - not so in the country. In fact they find it rather odd if you bring your beer with you. As for the pub, it was okay. You can't take the beers out the front like you used to, however they do have a ramshackle beer garden out the back - namely some tables with some tins for ashtrays. The restaurant was pretty crowded when I came here, though the front bar not so much. I'd probably come back here though, namely because of the memories of driving past it on the way to Melbourne.

I have been coming here for the best part of 20 years and it's still a favourite. It went down hill…read moresome years ago, but the current publican has really cleaned up the place. The meals are good. The steaks are good. It isn't the Windsor - it's a country pub that ticks most of the boxes.

You could tell the chips were made with care and precision. I was wanting to order another plate. The first of our mains was the 1/2 baby chicken which was a large cut for one. I tend to eat the items on my plate singularly (I'm weird) but, this dish forced you to combine and I simply loved it!! The balance is obviously the main strength. The second main was the duck. I have NEVER had cooked at this high standard and the quince dressing was perfect with it. We were full after all this but we wanted to continue eating because the food was so delicious. I loved the chilli pineapple (with a one-punch) and ice cream sandwich, and the house made apple sorbet was very fresh.

Very sweet interior with mixed pattern antique porcelain plates and cozy environment. My friend and…read moreI started with the fennel salad which was crisp and flavorful. I had a seared piece of barramundi in a crab broth with greens and coconut rice, so satisfying and the broth was spectacular. My friend had the lamb ribs which were well prepared, and a very large portion. The only thing that was a miss for us was her charred kale and purple sweet potato salad which had a dressing too sweet for our palates. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive, would highly recommend!!
