I recently booked a consultation appointment over the phone, which went great. Based on that, I went forward and booked a style. When I arrived, I needed my hair washed. As a stylist, I feel she should have asked me a few questions about whether I wanted my hair retwisted. I came a long way to test out the salon, so I didn't mind paying, but I expected a warmer welcome. Instead, the stylist was very cool and distant. While I did receive a wash and style as paid for, the results were disappointing. My hair was left feeling dry after the wash, and the style did not look good. The ends of my locs were not done properly in the two-strand twist and bun I asked for -- some pieces were not even tucked in, and my hair was still wet, not properly dried. I feel all of this could have been avoided with a simple conversation. Every loc salon is different, but in most cases, a wash, retwist, and style are included together. At this salon, everything was separated, which is fine, but I wish this had been explained clearly. Better communication would have helped, because I left feeling disappointed. read more

My experience at BraidedRoots was a mixed review. The vibe was nice and I loved the experience I had with Riyah. She is a great person and nice to talk with. But as far as the overall experience, it was not what I expected. I got braidloc extensions and initially I was thinking traditional locs, but wanted the Goddess look. At the initial consultation I was told the appointment was going to be approximately six hours, but that was based on the twist method. However, once I changed my mind about my style choice, I was still quoted the same timeframe and price. With that being said, she charges hourly and I could not stop where my budget ended. Because my hair was half done, I needed her to complete my hair despite going over the six hours. So the time to complete my hair was more than doubled. I had no other choice at this point but have her finish what she started. I take responsibility because she was transparent about her hourly rate and I knew beforehand. But I never anticipated I would spend as much money as I did on a hairstyle... EVER! Furthermore, if I am charged at such at such a high rate the quality needs to be on point and consistent across the board. Some braidlocs were uneven. She did tell me to come back in 3 weeks to fix anything that needs attention. I learned a very expensive lesson. If I would have known how expensive this decision was I would have made a different choice. I am not the kind of person to not pay someone for their hard work, so I did come out of pocket deeply, despite how sick I felt about it afterwards. And on top of that she's quick. Her speed on a interlock retwist (which is what I get) is unmatched. I'm writing this review to warn others about this hair stylist, if you are not happy with your hair don't expect her to care or give you your money back. I got faux locs done by her that took 10 hours and was 200 bucks and they started coming apart literally that same night. I went back to her to get her to fix it she rushed it and wrapped some thread around it. I was not happy at all so I took them out and asked her to give me at least half my money back and she didn't or didn't care to give me another hair style. She is very unprofessional next time she doesn't need to pretend she knows how to do a hair style when she doesn't and waist people's time and hard earned money. I didn't know if I wanted to cut my hair, braid it or put it into dreads. So in the undecided phase, Riyah, suggested I should do "comb coils." To be honest, this was the best decision, they look like dreads, and the way she styles them, I can see if I want braids as well, so she gave me the best of both worlds until I figure out what I want to want. When I moved down here and found braided roots I was very pleased with the results and have been back for retwists a few times now. My experience with Mariyah was nothing short of amazing. I don't usually braid my hair or do twists. So my knowledge was pretty poor with how to maintain and keep it looking nice for along time. Mariyah has been and was very helpful and responds to my texts in a timely matter when I have questions about my hair.
