Your attempt to hire a handyman under the guise of a contractor's license to inflate prices were definitely proven to be deceiving. On the day that my bf and I picked up keys, the home wasn't ready and the landlord was "unaware" supposedly. We had to cancel the uhaul, extend my stay at the apartment which meant I had to pay more rent, and live out of boxes for a week longer. Imagine having to coordinate all that with 3 children one that was 6 months old. I lived there for 4 years only because it was affordable. But I guess having a negligent landlord is the price you pay. During covid, landlord refused to apply for covid relief and threatened to evict me if I didn't pay even though I had lost my job due to lay offs. I continued to pay not realizing that I had rights. I feared more not having a place to live for my family. I finally moved out due to mice infestation that she would not address or handle. I was advised by 2 pest control companies that this was an "unlivable condition" and required attention. I had to pay for it out of pocket. She just wants her money and told me repeatedly every time she raised the rent (which was every year on the dot) that she could get more rent if she wanted to. Please be advised and warned.
