On January 8th my wife and I were traveling to NC from Lockport NY. Prior to leaving I performed the normal auto operation checks; wipers, oil, tire pressure, etc. And took our car into our mechanic the day before to check it over for road worthiness. When we left at 6 am, it was single digits - but crystal clear, a beautiful winter morning. We elected the 219 South route through PA, MD, VA and NC. About an hour into our trip, approaching Ellicottville NY, traffic gathered and car road spray first began. I went to clean my windshield and ..... squirt .... nothing came out. That's right completely frozen. After a few roadside stops throwing snow on the windshield to enable vision, I needed to stop and figure something out; it would be a long and dangerous trip without fluid given the road conditions and distance. I pulled off into Bradford in hopes of finding something open to assist; however on a Saturday morning at 8:15 AM, not much other than a gas station/convenience market was open. I needed HEAT. I noticed Bradford Auto Service and pulled in. They were closed too. As I pulled around to exit, I saw a man finishing plowing the driveway and asked if he could suggest where I could go. He sized me and my predicament up rather quickly and suggested I "pull up to bay #2". To my good fortune, it was the owner Brian Vecellio. He had me pull in, and tended to my frozen washer fluid system. After a half-hour of heat, and a few minor hose repairs, my system was working great. He added premium fluid that would not freeze and sent me on my way. Without hesitation upon my request for the bill he said "... just being neighborly, I know what it is like being stuck on the road too!" I am not suggesting he should make repairs for free for you, but I would certainly feel confident to trust anyone that was so kind and generous to us in a time of need. It's hard to find a good, honest car mechanic. Our shop back home is just that, and I can tell from this experience, so his Brian. A few times a year I stop in at my mechanic and feed his crew pizza or burgers; its what is deserved of a good, honest mechanic. My wife and I broke down in Bradford on the way to our honeymoon, bad alternator. We stayed the night and the guys at Advance Auto charged our battery sold us an alternator and the next day we were at Bradford Auto Service when they opened at 0800. They were very courteous and got us right in. We were repaired and on the way by 0915. Good courteous service at a great price.
