I moved here 6 months ago, and was surprised there was so much to learn about my own city and its gems! I strongly encourage going to the Ringling Museum before or after this trolley tour - we had just gone to Ringling Museum the day before, and it made it that much more special to learn how interwoven the Ringling family is to the fabric of this city.

Ask for someone besides Tom for your tour guide. Our group of 6 has been on other food tours in…read moreseveral cities, but the others were all better than this one. Our specific concerns: 1.) Even though two of our group had food allergies or a strong aversion to a small number of ingredients, our collective impression was that none of the food establishments had any knowledge of this at any time until we asked. 2.) Tom was inadequately prepared; he stumbled through notes about what we were seeing and offered only a limited amount of knowledge about Sarasota. 3.) Tom attempted to show old pictures of some historic buildings and people on his tablet. The images were very hard to see because of glare on the dimly lit screen. 4.) Tom spent too much time talking about his skateboarding, his tennis, his cooking and catering, his linens, his tour experience in other cities, his ya-da, ya-da....you get the idea. We passed Tom's wife (Kelley) and her tour. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves much more than our group. We went to 4 restaurants and were generally pleased with the food offered. But if you are claiming to be offering in-house preparation, you should know if your food contains problematic ingredients for your guests, and the tour guide should be more interested in this subject than he was.

She took us to three super cute locations: Patrick's 1481, Bevardi's Salute, and Brick's, and we finished with a gelato spot! All the staff at each location were really sweet, except for the hostess at the first place. But overall, the experience was still so good. We had drinks at all three spots, but my favorite was definitely the watermelon lemonade at Brick's. It even comes with a watermelon garnish At first they were out, but our sweet server Gerald made it happen for me, and I really appreciated that. After that, Susan went out of her way to show us a speakeasy around the corner from the gelato place. It wasn't even included in the tour, she just did it to be nice because she could tell my boyfriend used to be a really great bartender, which made it feel extra special. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would 100% come again!
