Solar by CIR - Lancaster, NY

CIR is so adaptable- they do schools, large facilities, hospitals, you name it, they've mastered it. Tom and Greg really run a fantastic company there- they should be very proud. There aren't enough stars to express how valuable Paolo, Jordan, Janice, Craig, Gene, and the rest of the CIR Electrical team are! I highly recommend them!

They use REC panels which are the best panels for the dollar. (Best value vs expensive/cheap). They're like buying and expensive panel for a moderate price. Longevity/durability and the fact they meet or exceed their production stays. Installation was fast but then the hoops for connection were not. I got to use my panels 2-3 months after install. The city blamed CIR and CIR blamed the city. Either way I missed out on some nice production months. The bad: I didn't check the inverters used on each panel. I had 425 panels but inverters that capped at under 400. This means my solar panel flattens out instead of being a bell curve and I lose about 2-4kwh a day of production. I didn't catch this until reviewing the final paper work because I ASSUMED they would give me an inverter appropriate for the panels. Prior to this discovery I would have given them high marks and the benefit of the doubt with the city/electrical/utility/ whatever fiasco. However, that's capping not only adds up, but my panels were more expensive than they needed or should have been, which makes it a rip off in my book. So, research not only your panels, but make sure the inverter is appropriate to your panel size. They're the experts and should have done this. They had no remorse or care when I called about this and clearly wanted me to just shit up and go away. So, I did and here's my review. It's unfortunate because I thought they did everything else well, but the lack of care at the end, ownership of a clear mistake, and frankly overcharging for what my final project was has me reducing them all the way to one star.

Energy Independent Solutions - More than 14 kilowatts of power in my backyard

You want…read morea company whose growth is based on word of mouth, and one that will be around in 25 years to honor their warranties. I'm a first-time homeowner with a modest budget, converting my home into a zero-emissions building. EIS was recommended to me over and over again. I got quotes from multiple companies, but only EIS's sales guy, Ian, did a tour of the whole property and listened to me talk at length about how I intended my installation to work with the other systems of my soon-to-be fully electrified home. I had deliberately bought a house with a south-facing yard so that I could do a ground mounted install in addition to the roof. Ian told me they could install a ground mounted system themselves, but it would look more industrial and possibly out of place in my small yard. But if I built my own backyard pergola structure, it would look more like something that belonged in my small backyard (and it would be cheaper). As I'm sure he knows, an installer would make more money, faster, if they didn't tell me that. I respected his decision to tell me, and it's why EIS won my business. I'd never built a pergola before. I couldn't use a kit, because I needed it to fit the specific constraints of my yard, the angle of the Sun, the zoning maximum height limit, the minimum property line setback, the minimum height before I'd hit my head, etc. I had to design it myself. The panels were in metric and the lumber was in imperial. EIS corresponded with me in detail throughout at least nine or ten revisions, all before they'd received any money other than my token down payment, and - though it would have been easier and more money for them - they did not ask me to reverse course and pay them to build the support structure themselves. There was another hurdle in the process. We had trouble finding me a lender. Although I have a mortgage, aside from that, I don't really go into debt. I buy everything in cash. That means I had no credit history. You'd think that would mean my credit would be perfect, but the American credit score system was designed by concussed cave trolls. Although I had the savings and income to cover what I needed to pay back a loan - and I was not by any means the poorest client EIS had ever worked with - it was hard for EIS to find me a lender. Again, it would have been easy for them at this stage to simply abandon the project and move on to more profitable clients. They didn't do that. They found me a lender, and we worked it out. I now have a working rooftop and ground mounted installation supplying my home with more than 14 kilowatts of power: enough for all my future electric appliances, plus an electric car. Today, it was cloudy and rained all day, and I still generated more power than I used. If I'd just wanted a rooftop install, EIS could have been done in a couple months. But my more thorough requirements created a lot more work for them. Now that it's done, I'm very glad we did it all. I will be calling EIS again as soon as I am ready to install batteries in a couple of years.

I spent more than 2 months attempting to understand what the changes Yellowlite made to the design and function of the system were. By the time I finally got answers on that it was clear the project could not be delivered on as promised by sales at the pricing which was quoted due to end of federal solar subsidies. 2 months I tried to work in good faith with this company to find something which was agreeable to both myself and Yellowlite. Unfortunately, that did not come to pass. About 1 month ago prior to posting this review I was told this was to be handed over to their business unit for cancellation of the project. Since then Yellowlite has ignored any additional communication from us. I can assume for nothing else besides malice for expecting them to honor what their sales team has promised. I do not have solar from this company as we could not get this over the finishline in the final design phase. Communication from sales as top notch. Everything after that has been a disaster. And at this point this company has functionally robbed me of a $7000 deposit which they appear to have no intention of returning despite their sales team promising as much.
