Cose con le rose (1 di 2)
Things with roses (1 of 2)
This place, Braceria delle Rose, was close to where I was staying and along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, which is possibly the main drag and runs parallel to and inboard from the Lungomare - the seafront promenade. It gave off a different vibe from the exterior, especially with night owl sort of regulars in the bar up front.
I was slammed for a place to eat at late hours. I figured delle Rose might have food and they did.
I was quickly seated and handed a menu. I chose the mezze maniche alla carbonara and 5 arrosticini di carne, the latter of which is a staple and trademark of the area.
The mezze maniche arrived first. For delle Rose serving a combination of functions, complete with a room in the back for when the weather is better, the pasta was better than I expected. The sauce was tasty and the meat was obviously sourced locally. I think that, in this region, arrosticini - basically lamb kebabs - have long been perfected and I ate them quickly. They were nicely cooked, tender, and filling without being overly filling. I don't think that I eat them "correctly." I peeled them downward from the skewer onto the plate while I think the locals eat them as if working on a corn cob.
The service was very attentive and even a little multicultural. (Multicultural is rarely provincial.) The prices were fair and to my liking. The restaurant is a little small, but there are tables out front and tables in the back, both depending on customer load and weather. Locals were having dinner inside, so it has a following for that and, from what I could see, also from its barflies!
It could have been the bar crowd that I'd see when walking by that made me hesitant, but I was starving and willing to try it, which was fortuitous. Also, the name led me to think they might not have too many food options. They do!
They do a little graphic gimmick with the name, showing it is BARceria delle Rose and BRAceria delle Rose. The former would be a bar, which, for many locals would actually mean the strong coffee more so than liquor, and also a brasserie, so, yes, they offer quite a bit. I also need to mention that I returned a second time and ordered the exact same things. read more
