I really do appreciate the fact that they have a low-cost salon on campus that is run by the students so they can get hands on practice. Sadly, I don't think all the students are knowledgeable about the services or have the experience necessary to do a decent job. The instructor onsite was only helpful for hair services and cared very little about nail services going on. Even though I seemed obviously festered, she came around but offered no proactive assistance.
I initially decided to give this place a try because I wanted to support what they do so I booked a simple appointment for gel polish removal and gel polish application. I also figured they couldn't mess up such a simple procedure. First off, this isn't a full salon so they didn't have enough tools or nail polish variety to give you the full salon experience. It also takes a lot longer for the services. For example, the girl who tried to remove my gel polish only had a small nail buffer and file to work with so it took over an hour to buff away all the old gel polish I had on. Then when it came to applying the polish, I realized that she was having a lot of trouble. She couldn't control the amount of polish on the brush, so there was a either a giant glob of polish or too little. Watching her apply the polish evenly and smoothly was really nerve wrecking and I knew I could have easily done my nails myself. She also mentioned that she had very little experience (she only ever did two pedicures as a student there). I'm not exactly sure how you can charge the general public if students aren't getting the adequate education and experience in the first place. The girl who did my nails did realize how festered I got after being there for over 1.5 hours and apologized for wasting my time so she didn't end up charging me. Anyway my nails ended up looking awful so I had to remove it all and redo it myself. Overall my review is only on the gel polish removal and application so I cannot give an adequate review on the other services they provide. Just keep in mind that these students are not professionals and some have very little training so you are really paying for what you get. read more
