But I was intrigued, so figured I'd check it out. Now I had no idea what Leo's offered until I went in. Think gas station/convenience store offering locally made food items, freshly prepared bowls/drinks and kolaches. Second guilty admission: never had a kolache. The nice woman behind the counter helped me choose (they were buy one, get one free)! So I chose one egg and cheese, and one spinach and cheese. They were warmed in an oven while I went to grab a coffee and use the restroom, which was very clean and well-stocked. Pro tip: if you want a latte or another specialty coffee, order at the counter. If you want to make your own, go to the coffee bar. It's less expensive, plus they have a variety of sweeteners, Torani syrups, and assorted creamers (including plant-based). The cash register employee let me know when they were ready to go, and my grand total was less than $6. I picked up a few hot sauce packets from the condiment bar and sat down in the dining area to eat. The kolache itself is essentially a small, light sandwich. The bread was soft, with a hint of sweetness. The egg and cheese combo was perfect for my light lunch! I had a bite of the spinach and cheese kolache before I left, which was even more flavorful and cheesy! Can't wait to have it tomorrow morning. The cafe also features freshly prepared smoothies, coffee drinks, salad/potato/pasta bowls as well as soups, with a rotating soup of the day. There's truly something for every taste. It's pretty well known that Wawa only recently entered the Indiana market. What started as a New Jersey iron foundry in 1803, became a dairy processing plant in 1902, and then opened as a food market in 1964, is now a 750-strong chain of convenience stores with a strong presence in six states and a growing presence in others (including Indiana). Why is Wawa beloved? friendly employees. One-stop shopping for gas, coffee, and food. While this was really within the first 24 hours of being open, it was noticeably clean and I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was. Wawa offers fuel and EV charging. Wawa has a stunning amount of coffee options and I definitely tried their refreshers/rechargers. Dragon Burst is an absolute winner. Wawa has breakfast, lunch, and dinner options and the menu is surprisingly comprehensive. You can get a biscuit sandwich starting at $2.49 - lower than a ton of fast food joints (I'm looking at you, Hardee's). While gas stations/convenience stores are often known for their unhealthy foods, Wawa has quite a few healthy options. There's also a lot of baked goods - donuts, brownies, muffins, and even soft pretzels. I tried the donuts. Yum. I was pleased with accessibility features. I also noticed an accessibility statement on their website that I found pleasing. This was a first visit and it was unexpected. So, no photos. I was rushing to a conference and primarily looking for a snack and directions. I received both from friendly employees in a warm, winning, clean, and welcoming atmosphere. I don't go to Plainfield a ton, however, there's no doubt I'd stop back here when I'm in the area. I went inside to pay and all I could smell was that really good Indian incense. You know the one I'm talking about? I know this because it's my favorite! Sam was the clerk and he was super friendly to me. We spoke for a few moments about the market I had just come from and he told about a few different events that happen in the neighborhood. He also shared that his family had had businesses there since 2003. Once there used to be a motorcycle shop and it had closed so they purchased the building and now have the neighborhood gas station. I love learning about local businesses. More often than not I find business owners originate from other countries and move here for the hope of better lives. Clark Gas Station is one of these businesses. On a busy corner at Hamilton and 10th, just across from the Boner Community Center, it seems to cater to the very poor. Sure, it is a convenience store and gas station. But the pricing of items seems exploitative considering the low income of most persons who visit the place. Last week I needed two cans of cream of mushroom soup. I was making a recipe and couldn't stop long enough to get to a serious grocery store. So, ok, why not use the trusty old convenience store for something else except gas? I did buy two cans of Campbells cream of mushroom soup for $2.49 per can. Yikes! That seems to me exploitative and a case of price gouging. Today I checked at my Marsh grocery store at Lockerbee. The price per can was $1.69. If I had wanted a generic can of the same soup I would have paid only $1.19 per can-- a difference of $1.30 for each can I bought. If you care about food justice and basic economic fairness, do as I am doing and refuse to give your business to Clark, for food or for anything else.

The pumps have new card readers and work well. Right now, High Street is under construction for the Spring and Summer of 2022. The intersection on which the station sits was completed last year. So entering and exiting off Indiana Ave is easy enough. The one driveway entrance that is closed will probably open up as soon as the sidewalk is done.

The restrooms were spotless. The store offers an amazing amount of supplies for truckers, campers and travelers. I saw everything from small refrigerators to a complete selection of electronic needs. I saw a typical assortment of convenience store roller food and fresh fruits and other grab and go meals. They carried beer, but I did not see locally crafted beer. There is a small McDonald's and Subways as part of the complex. They have showers for truckers. I can't talk to those, but the area looked clean. Outside, they have even built a fenced-in dog park. The park was small with benches for owners. I've never seen a service station with a dog park. The gas was priced average for the area. Parking and the pumps are easy to access. The traffic flow is pretty good. I'll keep stopping here.

I didn't take a shower, but I did use the restroom, and the cleanliness level of the restroom was just OK. Could have used a once-through. There are also two fast-food restaurants: McDonald's and Subway. I don't eat at either of these places, but do you know what I do eat? I eat banana pudding, and you can find some here in the grab-and-go refrigerated case inside the convenience store. It was OK (it ain't no Buc-ees banana pudding), but if you're in the mood for banana pudding, this one at Love's will do. You also find all kinds of things for your cars and trucks, cooking items, blankets, clothing, sandals, games, toys and lots of packaged snacks. Get some hot dogs (two for $5) in flavors like regular, smoked cheddar and jalapeño cheddar. Surprisingly, they offered cut fruit in an iced cooler by the cash register. Things like pineapple, grapes and watermelon in cups. I don't know why that surprises me, but I'm glad a gas station thinks it's important to highlight nutritious snacks.
