I lost my damn mind this morning. Intoxicated by the cool, autumnal winds blowing the leaves about, I ventured out to the studio in a positive state of low-pressure bliss. I made one of the three usual coffee stops but...dumbed down by onset of a long awaited fall, I got very sentimental for the season and thought a hot chocolate would be just the thing for my morning drive.
What a freakin' idiot.
I was half a minute behind the wheel and one sip into the 7-11 hot chocolate when I realized I was quite possibly risking the lives of everyone sharing Suitland Parkway with me that morning. Sentimental warm fall fuzzies be damned, I needed COFFEE!
But I'd already passed the last alternative coffee stop on my route. Oh the Brewmanity!!!! What to do, what to do?
Desperate...I thought I'd turn around on Chesapeake Beach road and head BACK to 7-11 and undo the grave error I had done.
But there was the old, tiny Beach Road gas station...all done up as a new BP with it's tiny convenience store refurbished and looking pleasant. Throwing caution to the wind (and now in the initial throes of coffee deprivation), I pulled into the parking lot and made a hopeful dash into the little store.
I think I heard angels. Or maybe it was the jingle bells on the door...but in any case, I smelled coffee close by. And the smell was good. They had Green Mountain Pumpkin Spice! Along with Morning Blend, regular and that evil decaf stuff I never pay attention to. They also had fresh cream, every sugar and you could want for coffee, and the coffee counter didn't look as if a tiny Colombian war had been fought upon it, spilling the caffeinated blood of combatants everywhere. The counter was clean. The coffee was fresh and good, and I was one happy camper.
After a few sips, I could see straight and get my ADD addled brain organized enough to check out the rest of the space. BEER! GOOD BEER! RIGHT OVER THERE!!!! (that's a rarity in MD folks, we don't get beer in service stations very often), all sorts of breakfast treats, granola bars, and the required dried meats that seem to be so popular around here.
This little BP was jam-packed with goodies and booze! Wheee...ElDorado on the Beach Road!
I left with my bucket o'Joe happy and now with a new coffee stop under my belt. Mmmmm Pumpkin Spice!
*on a side note, I didn't gas up here, but I noticed a" 5 cents off on Sundays/Nascar" banner on the side of the station. Good info to have. read more
