Let me start out by saying that I am not a good standardized test taker by any means. I've…read morestruggled with these tests all my life, constantly performing below what someone of my GPA would expect. From class 1, Steve helped explain the GMAT in an understandable and helpful way. Each week he would ask if he had questions about our homework and never stopped encouraging us to bring him questions. Not only would he explain how he got the correct answer, Steve would try to understand how one of us got it wrong based on our thinking and therefore, correct our process. Steve also didn't rush us through topics that we were struggling with, allowing us to have time to digest the material in class rather than being overly confused when we went to do the homework. Even since the course has ended, Steve has reached out to us a few times offering any help and wishing us luck on the exam. As for the course itself, I thought it was great! Each class was a different topic, which kept it interesting each time we met. I never felt bored. In fact, I would usually look up at the clock and be surprised how much time went by. There is a lot of homework, but it only helps reinforce what you need to know. Over the 6 weeks of the course, it truly became my life outside of work, but it's paying off with the results I've been getting on my practice exams. At first I was a little hesitant spending all this money on a course, but I can honestly say that I'm very glad I did it. It was worth every dollar and I would recommend it to anyone who wanted to take a course that will actually give results.

DISCLAIMER: My only experience is taking their GMAT class…read more I was gifted the Princeton Review GMAT class by my girlfriend during the winter of 2020. I was initially excited to get help on the exam, but unfortunately, the course turned out to be mostly useless. Before beginning the course, I could score a 540 on the exam. By the end of it, my exam score was LOWER than my initial score at 530 (on 2 consecutive tests). This is despite attending all of the classes and following along with their overstuffed syllabus. While I appreciate their effort to provide a large amount of content, I feel as if the course was too disorganized to generate consistent progress and i'm actually less confident about taking the exam than I was in the beginning. This course specifically would benefit from being more focused on instructing people on how to actually get a good score on the GMAT and not just slamming students with huge amounts of irrelevant homework.

Her and her friend actually said they almost cried when the class was over. Most importantly, she went up 230 points on her SAT! We joined the Sylvan family just before Christmas of 2021. And we're so grateful we did. They say…read moreit takes a village to raise a child...just make sure Mr. Rick Hernandez and his brilliant daughter Nadia, owners of Sylvan Learning of Edison, are a part of that village. Allow me to preface this review by saying that I'm a proud, former math and science student. Playing with numbers are a comfort zone for me. With that being said, being a math geek does not assure progeny with the same acumen. Nor does it guarantee an ability to translate and transfer those math skills to a struggling teen. We're not all naturally born teachers, despite earnest parental attempts. And as a result, my hard-working child suffered from my shortcomings, coupled with the troubled virtual learning experience of the pandemic lockdown. Beloved son was always an A student in his elementary school years, including in Math. But he worked very hard to achieve this. Math was never his forte. His Honors Geometry class in his freshman year of high school only served to highlight his ongoing struggles. By the second marking period, we knew we needed to escalate and find additional resources. After an unsuccessful experience with another learning center, we found the relatively new Sylvan Learning Center of Edison, conveniently located right on Route 1, next to the very familiar Chuck E Cheese. Responding within a few hours, a very pleasant Mr. Rick invited us to come to the center and take an assessment. It was immediately obvious, Sylvan is not like your typical learning center. The center is pristine...brightly lit...with multiple tables reserved for each tutor and his/her one or two dedicated students. There is coffee provided in the front lobby for parents choosing to wait. There is a fun and decorative prize section for the children to choose earned rewards from their sessions. (Older kids can earn gift cards if they'd rather forego little toys!) They even provide drinks and snacks for the children, so that hunger is never an issue. It is a place where children can be comfortable and their learning experience properly nurtured. And unlike other learning centers, there are no generic group sessions comprised of rote math exercises force feeding memorized equations. Rather, Sylvan provides personalized one-on-one instruction with resources hailing from the most applicable backgrounds. (Case in point, Mr. Rick strove to find top tutors from some of the area's best universities to provide instruction. He knew that the knowledge these instructors would have would be the most relevant and current with the latest teaching strategies.) I knew that there were gaps in my son's math education. The Sylvan assessment immediately identified each and every gap of my son's math foundations as early as from his third grade skills up to the most current. Once the assessment data was compiled, Rick could now legitimately design a learning plan for my son, with most importantly, required milestones and an actual end date. (This was a must for us. Unlike with other learning centers, I had no interest in an undefined relationship with ambiguous goals. ) To be fair, Sylvan was not the cheapest option. The other center was almost half the price. But the difference in learning experience was striking. And working with Sylvan is still much more economical than hiring a single private tutor outside. It was the perfect compromise where we were concerned. However, while a learning plan was set, there was still the concern of flexibility. Mr. Rick assured me that they could always work around our ever-changing commitments. And he did. Again and again and again. As long as I could endeavor to give at least a day's notice, he would handle the re-scheduling of his incredible staff so my son could work with the same group of tutors. Along with the instruction, a few minutes per session could also be used for homework help, if needed. But this would not be a focus. Recall, each student has a learning plan in place. To supplement the learning, Sylvan also provides access to its learning website...where students could access homework assistance from home. While we didn't always take advantage of this offering, it was good to know that such a resource was available when not in session. Finally, after a pleasant six months at Sylvan, during an equally difficult time in high school, beloved son is finally confident that he's completely "caught up" in math. He was able to comfortably pass in his class when in reality, Honors Geometry became progressively harder each day. I don't really know what we would have done had we not found Sylvan. If you're looking for additional instruction for your child, whether it be in math, English or even in preparation for standardized exams, including the SAT/ACT, give Rick Hernandez a call. You can thank me later.

I…read morehadn't heard of anyone going for CPA exam tutoring so I turned to Google as a last hope and found Len Prather locally! I appreciated his approach to tutoring and how he was able to teach me in a way that really benefitted me. We would cover the topic (since it had been so long that I had even reviewed specific content) and I would ask questions throughout our lessons to ensure I grasp it. We'd walk through questions which was incredibly beneficial because we'd be able to talk through why my answer was wrong specific to my thought process and he would help me see what I was missing. He provided incredible notes that I was able to understand and apply to every question when I studied- truly it was above and beyond. Len is an incredibly patient tutor which I needed because I was often so frustrated when I couldn't grasp a concept. I felt more confident about the areas being tested and felt more grounded in the content that when I did pass, FAR was my second highest score! The way he helped me understand complex concepts made tackling FAR so much easier I just wish I had reached out earlier!

Agree teachers are great but admin/owner is terrible…read more If you cancel a session the day of because your child is sick, you just lose that day/money and are not offered a make-up because it's a 'late cancel'. Apparently, they want you to upgrade the package in order to be able to cancel if your child is sick? A fair sick cancellation policy should NOT be dependent on a more expensive package. That's completely ridiculous. Meanwhile, if the instructor 'late cancels', we don't get a refund....instead, we are forced to do a make-up session even when the make-up times/days is not convenient for us. We don't get a refund....they make sure THEY don't lose money, but you are out of luck if your child wakes up sick.

First let me say, the instructors are great and my child's teacher is awesome!!!…read more School administration is poor, really rude , not flexible and only want to make money, they will use every trick in their pocket to charge you without actually giving your child a lesson, for example "you cancelled 23 hours and 59 minutes before the lesson, the policy is 24 hours so you don't get any credit " or "you have to cancel online and we can't do it over the phone so we are doing you a favour cancelling , oh and by the way since you cancelled over the phone you get no credit " or they can call you 30 minutes before the lesson to cancel, doesn't matter if you are already there, but you have to cancel 24 hrs ahead of time. The staff is rude and all they do is just read the policy to you. So if I could give a 0 for service I would. Facilities are poor as well, you walk in every time it smells disgusting and that is not just one time, it is every time. Beyond that, there is no sound proofing at all, you can hear what the student next to you are playing even if is a soft piano, they might as well be in the same room. The only saving grace are the excellence teachers they have.
