Here is our story. My husband and I originally wanted a midwife at the hospital but due to short staffing issues they couldn't guaranteed that a midwife would deliver our child. We decided to transfer care to the birthing center in my 3rd trimester. The normal birthing center package advertised on the website includes 13 prenatal visits, labor and delivery, 5 postpartum visits for $7200. We participated in 7 of the 13 prenatal visits and got a $200 late to care discount. At 40 weeks, the birthing center said they were required by law to transfer me back to the hospital for labor and delivery. So back to the hospital we went. We delivered at the hospital at 40 weeks and 1 day. We left the hospital after 24 hours and were expecting to receive at home care from the birthing center and complete our care through them. We were not contacted after birth about our postpartum visits for the 24 hour or 3 day check-ins. At that point, we decided to ask for a refund for the care we did not receive which included labor and delivery and 5 postpartum care appointments. We were refunded $2,929.50 out of our initial $7,000. In total, we participated in 7 of 18 appointments and did not labor or deliver with the center. Therefore, we paid $611 per 30-60 minute check-up appointment before labor. Overall, we felt like the situation was not handled appropriately. We felt taken advantaged of and not treated fairly. We hope for the future that pricing and structures reflect the care that is given. read more

I can write a super long review but people rarely read them. Just want to say I love this place so much. I had a water birth with my first son and definitely wanted one with my second son as well. This place is heaven sent. If you can tolerate labor unmedicated and fully immerse yourself in the miraculous experience of bringing a baby into this world.. this is for you! Brooke is the sweetest and most helpful receptionist. Kayla and Krista the midwives here are beyond knowledgable in their craft. After delivering my boy too quickly things became a bit scary for me and the midwife handled the situation with ease and I felt as though I was in good hands the entire time. I trust these ladies more than doctors and that speaks volumes. My last appointment was a couple weeks ago and I was really sad because it felt like a second home with all the visits. Their care, kindness and compassion is out of this world and even though I only wanted 2 kids initially, I might just have to have a third just because of how much I loved my experience here! read more

We welcomed our sweet baby girl into the world at the Bozeman Birth Center in November 2017. Our care from start to finish was personal, thorough, and full of joy. The birth team that helped us along was AMAZING - We hired a doula in addition to having the midwife/nurse - great choice and an addition we highly recommend - the extra hands made a lengthy/difficult birth bearable and allowed us to stay on track with our birth plans. Alright ya'll. Got a few words. First off, the owner and main midwife Mikelanne, was flat out AMAZING! My wife's care was wonderful and she was very much at ease with her care in Mikelanne's hands. Mikelanne definitely knows her stuff and is very personable. We did however, have a great deal of distress with the business manager Lisa. She told us in the interview before we hired the Birth Center, that they (the Birth Center) accepted Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana and that they would bill BCBS at the time of the birth. Well, long story short, we ended up having to be transported to the hospital after some complications. A month later the business manager told us that we were on the hook for the $4,600 midwife service fee and that the Birth Center could not bill out to our insurance as we did not actually have the baby at the Birth Center. I hate to use this but, WTF? We were NOT told this! The biggest reason we went with the Birth Center in the first place was that they worked with health insurance! Furthermore, when my wife started asking questions, Lisa threw it all back at her, as if it were her fault that they could not bill the insurance! Lisa actually told her " it's not my fault that you were transported. If you were me, how would you bil for this? We went as far to ask an attorney if this was right and he said, "dont pay a dime until the Birth Center holds up their end of the contract and submits your claim." Well, folks if you are in to the natural birth process, great. However, be sure to get EVERYTHING IN WRITING before you sign with the Birth Center. Otherwise, you may find yourself five grand in the hole for almost nothing. read more

We could not be happier with our experience at the Bozeman Birth Center. My first child was born at an out-of-state hospital and I had an epidural. We had a good experience with the birth of our first child, but after talking with friends and doing some reading about birth options, we decided to try a different option for the birth of our second child. From our first (free) appointment at the birth center, it was clear that we would be in a much more personal, supportive environment for prenatal care, the birth, and postpartum care. We never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seen for an appointment, and usually we were seen right away. Jazmin and Kayla were both obviously very experienced and knowledgeable, and on top of that very available. During appointments, we never felt rushed and we were given detailed, informative answers and we were always made aware of all our options. When I called in with questions, they were always answered within a day's time, usually within an hour or two. By the time I was near my due date, I felt like I knew both midwives very well and felt completely comfortable with both of them being on call when the day came. Both are extremely well-qualified to take care of any standard prenatal or birth issues (I had a couple), and I knew that if I should have to transfer to the hospital during labor, it would probably be for something unusual and I trusted the midwives' judgement. When labor was near, and I had a couple of "false alarms" about the start of labor, the on-call midwife always answered our call and met us at the birth center to check that everything was ok. Then, on labor day, everything went better than I expected. I was lucky enough to have both Jazmin and Kayla there, with Jazmin leading and Kayla supporting. Jazmin took my call in the early morning hours and guided me as to when/whether I should come in, but it was so reassuring hearing her say "whenever you feel like you want to come, I'll be there." During labor I felt immensely supported and I knew I was in good hands should any problems arise. My husband and doula (Jessica Cartwright, who is also amazing!) were always close by and allowed to ask questions and participate as much as they wanted and were able to. I can only describe the moments and hours after the birth as magical. We were in a room that felt cozy and private. Our baby was checked out right in front of us or in our hands, and we were given as much privacy and support as we wanted. We never felt rushed to leave after the birth, even though we found out later that two other families came in later that same day! Postpartum care was also exceptional. We got to take our baby home the day of the birth, and we had home visits from Jazmin and Kayla on 1 and 3 days postpartum. The midwives again showed their experience and knowledge and were very patient answering all our questions. Whenever we had a concern, we could call or text, and got a response very quickly (usually within an hour!). Our appointments post-baby at the birth center were also always on time and we were given as much time as we wanted to ask any questions. I want to stress again that it made a huge difference to have such quality, personalized care, which we did not feel that we could have received at doctor's offices (although we like our doctors, they did not give us as much time and attention as we received at the birth center). I felt especially supported, as typically a new mom isn't seen until 6 weeks postpartum at the doctor's office, but I was evaluated by the midwives at every postpartum visit -- at 1 and 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks. We have no issues with our pediatrician, but we were also happy to receive all the standard baby care in baby's first two months of life at the birth center -- mom and baby were checked out each time, and we ran a very small risk sharing space with older, sick kids, as we would at the pediatrician's. Now that our baby is almost 2 months old and we are getting ready to transition to a pediatrician's office, I have to say we'll miss visiting Kayla and Jazmin, and the warm, welcoming environment at the birth center! read more

I had two amazing births with the Bozeman Birth Center. With my first birth, I had to be transported to the hospital. It was handled beautifully and the hospital welcomed us with open arms because of the good relationship that they have with the midwives here. Despite my transport, I had no hesitations about choosing the birth center for my second birth. This birth was perfect, peaceful, and empowering at the birth center thanks to the hands of the skilled and loving staff. My insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield) was billed and the majority of my services were paid! If you are looking for a non-hospital, peaceful setting where you are welcomed with open arms at each appointment and a birth with knowledgable and skilled midwives and staff, this is your place. read more

Overall disappointing at best. They mean well but honestly it was a tremendous waste of money. Hippy feel goodery doesn't go very far when things get tough. My gut told me this place was incompetent and when push came to shove I was right. Found myself loading my exhausted wife into the back seat of my car after ten hours of labor. She was in agony. Absolutely ridiculous! Also check your insurance because this outfit isn't state certified so they probably won't accept your claim. Probably the biggest waste of money I've ever been naive enough to fall for. read more
