When another mechanic reviewed some of the work they recommended, it sounded like they may have been overzealous in their thorough examination/recommendations. For example, the drive belt has the beginnings of a minor crack but it sounds like it's probably not going to be an issue for 20,000 miles. They also asked for a review multiple times after the service. Final answer: They aren't (and don't claim to be) the affordable option, but their service advisors were pleasant and I felt like they didn't try to pressure me into more services once I said no/defer to most recs.

I called other shops and they wanted me to pay $200 for a diagnostic and leave the car with them for 2-3 days. Chandra did a diagnostic the old fashioned way...he used his brain and correctly diagnosed that the fault was with an electrical component in the tailgate itself. He charged me for his time spent on this, a very reasonable $80, and I gladly paid for the rear door actuator replacement that followed. He and his sons repaired the liftgate and replaced a new battery from a well known tire shop that was not capable of meeting the needs of my cars electronics with an OEM battery per my request.
