Bowman's Tower, as seen from New Jersey

Very beautiful scenery on top. Very sketchy elevator. The drive there is very pleasant with a bunch of scenery. Highly recommend going to the wildflower preserve as well. Tickets to both can be bought in a bundle

Bowman's Hill Tower is built where part of Washington's army is thought to have camped to keep lookout on the land and river below that fateful winter in 1776 before crossing the Delaware. As we looked out at the vast views from the tower, including land dotted with farms and houses, we thought of how our nation was set in motion a couple of centuries ago by those brave men. A couple of whom are thought to be buried on this site, and there is a marker for their graves. The Tower was built as a monument in the 1930's as part of the work programs of the FDR administration during the Depression. Getting to the top required climbing a narrow, turning stairway. In the 1980's an elevator was installed and today one rides it to a landing (with small windows) just below the Tower's top then climbs the narrow stairway a couple of dozen steps to the top. You'll need to buy a ticket to ride the elevator, but it is good for entry into several other of the historic attractions on the Washington Crossing tour. A note: for those with mobility problems, you'll have access as far as the landing level with views from the windows there. Since people with disabilities who use aids can't get to the top, the park policy is not to charge those visitors for the ride ticket. Another note: this Tower is also on the route of the Covered Bridge Tour in Buck's County. We highly recommend driving that tour route to see the twelve remaining bridges that are lovingly maintained and used by vehicles today. Also, the Bowman's Preserve is nearby and like the Tower area it is a wonderful place for bird watching. Both at the visitor center there (which unlike the Tower has running water bathrooms...hooray) and also on the many trails.

Pretty! I visited here for the first time yesterday with the boyfriend and almost got lost trying to find it. The GPS also left us in between places so we asked someone on the side of the road and had to pay close attention to every sign on the side. The sign in the front says they close at 4, we got there at 3:30 so I was worried we wouldn't get to walk around. No worries though! When you get to the top, you go in the tower for $6, look around and leave. You can either walk up or take the elevator up but there is still a very narrow few steps you'll need to walk up. Make sure you announce you're going up or down before you start walking because you might get stuck in the middle if other people are going the other way. The guy in the visitor center was kind of rude. He was fine at first but when we went to talk to him after we were done, he was clearly looking at me when I started asking him a question but looked away twice. Then the third time didn't bother looking at me when answering my question. He did recommend some places for us to hike when we asked that though. Oh and there are lots of ladybugs on the tower!

Neat place to visit and has a good view from the top. The road to and from the tower is one way and the speed limit is low, so it's easy to walk, and has some great scenery.

So to be clear, this tower was not used by general Washington, it's a monument to him during the revolutionary war as a lookout place to watching the Red coats before the famous crossing of the Delaware. It's 125' tall with a narrow spiral staircase that gets very narrow towards the top so if you're not in at least some kind shape or get dizzy easily the trek to the top may be a real challenge especially since there's only 1 small landing before the top. The views are incredible however. The full 360 view is unmatched, looking out over the river, the rolling hills, you really get a chilly feel of the history of the area, it's really neat. There are walkers all over the area as the hill is a great workout so when you're driving up please pay attention and don't forget your 6$ to take the walk up the tower.

They thought it was Rapunzel's Tower

Bowman's Hill Tower is a 125-foot-tall stone tower located in beautiful, historic Washington Crossing Historic Park in Bucks County. It was constructed in 1930 to commemorate the men who camped and protected high on these hills. It was also built to help provide men in the area with jobs after The Great Depression. It is 124 stairs each way including a VERY narrow spiral staircase at the top. We have climbed our fair share of lighthouses and such and this was the by far the smallest spiral stair case I've ever seen. Watch out if you're claustrophobic! There is an elevator, but it was broken the day we were visiting and the man in the visitors center we purchased our tickets from said it had been for three weeks prior. Expect that it may be, be pleasantly surprised if it's not. You can drive directly up the winding road to the tower and park up there or you can certainly hike it. I would recommend hiking up the down slope as it seemed a wider allowing for both cars and hikers to travel side by side more safely. There are very clean Porta-Potties by the towers also. The cleanest ones I've ever seen! Smelled good too! Crazy. From the top of the tower you can see views of Lambertville and New Hope, Trenton and Morrisville, as well as a American Revolutionary War cemetery containing the graves of 23 Continental Army soldiers, 22 of them are unknown. It is pretty stunning up there. I imagine more so with foliage. Perhaps we'll bring hubs back in the fall! $6 Admission for ages 5 to adult. Kiddos 4 and under are FREE! Your kiddos may just think this is Raunzel's Tower so let them scream "Let Down Your Hair!" It's a hoot. It's located next to Bowman's Wildlife Preserve where they often do nature walks and story-time with the little ones. If you have kiddos, I say make a day of it and do both! You can buy a pass for $11 instead of just $6 to do so! Fab Philly Mom says: absolutely bring those kiddos! Be prepared to maybe help the really wee ones out on the steps however or perhaps give a call first to check on the elevator status that day!

Awesome historical site at where Washington strategized to cross the Delaware for the Battle of Trenton. $6 to go up the tower. Amazing views. Elevator was broke today. 8 flights of small stairs to climb. Good exercise but if you cant deal with that be forewarned.

Love love love love this place. The elevator was broken when we went but i did not mind. They posted that it was in their website so i was prepared to walk the flight of steps. The scenery was so beautiful. You could see majestic Delaware River. Would definitely visit again.

It's not like they hide it and then spring it on you. Yes it's difficult to understand what's being said through the speakers. They need to address that. But the employees who walk through the cars answering questions make up for it. Very pleasant and knowledgeable. The ride through parts of New Hope was a delight. I had a cousin visiting from the West coast who is, "in to trains" like Sheldon Cooper! He was absolutely thrilled. We all loved how the people in the houses along the way waved to us. If you enjoy vintage trains and a nice ride it's great. The children that were on board all seemed to be having a great time. Next time my cousin visits he already requested that we return. We will!

When I rode this train last year, it was truly an awful experience and thought it was ridiculously overpriced. Don't get me wrong, it's still overpriced! But what has changed that I could see was a massive improvement in customer service with the workers we interacted with. I only returned since there was a ticketing snafu where somehow I got charged double. Last year, I tried calling to resolve it and despite all my efforts, they would not refund my money. With this in mind, I booked the Santa Train since I already had most of the train cost covered with last year's double booking from the credit that I had on file. My family and I came during Thanksgiving and I was initially really surprised by just how empty our car was. It was the last train of the night, but still, I would have thought a busy Thanksgiving holiday weekend would have been packed. It could also be that people like us have booked in the past, got frustrated and swore off coming back for good. I waiting to board the train, and was standing outside in the freezing cold weather and the worker told me I could hop on. I really really appreciated this, since on my last ride, I ended up standing outside while the train was in the station but they were super strict on the boarding time. Once inside the train, they were efficient in the boarding and making sure we were comfortable. Off we went, and we were entertained by singing and the band even requested songs by all those in the car. And other staff offered to take our family's photo. Santa came through and even gave the kids a little gift. Santa and Mrs. Clause spent plenty of time chatting with my kids and it was very nice to see. There is a small cart that is rolled out where you can purchase drinks including alcoholic beverages for the adults to add to your hot cocoa. They also had some snacks for purchase. A nice touch was the complimentary hot chocolate and baked cookies. My daughter got caught up in the excitement and spilled hot cocoa all over her lovely dress. Not only did the workers offer to help clean it up, but they even brought over a bottle of sparkling water for us to use along with a towel to clean her up. The woman helping out even got in and started scrubbing the dress with us. We had a nice dinner planned for after the ride and it was just a really nice gesture and my partner and I couldn't believe how much was improved from our previous experience. I'm willing to come back and give this place another shot.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the ACME Screening Room in Lambertville NJ…read more We are 2-year dual members thus far. In the three years since living in Bucks County and first finding the ACME, they have fundraised to upgrade the chairs, the screen, and digital projection equipment. They have also like overnight somehow been able to acquire viewing of the most current indie and foreign films. Top films at that. We just saw Stan and Ollie, Shoplifters, Cold War, and many other excellent films. Just last night, 3/2/19, we saw a South Beach Miami documentary of two photographers that captured the life and evolution of South Beach. Well done and informative. Just in the past 4 months, we've seen more films at the ACME then at the Montgomery Theater in Skillman and we no longer drive out to the Ambler, Hiway or Colony theaters. I've also participated as a presenter at two 20x20 Pecha Kutcha events and recently volunteered to photograph presenters of the Feb 8th event. Feels good to be apart of the community. Support the ACME so that they can continue to bring us such great film and other experiences.
