It's a truly amazing town but I'm reviewing the river walk. It's approximately a 6 mile round trip walk but you won't feel it as it's a unique trail along the river that at times goes through the downtown and surrounding neighborhood. It's paved, well managed and good for walking, biking and bird watching. We enjoyed the shady areas and there are benches all throughout the path if you need a break. What made it very fun and interesting was that we passed a free admission zoo (where the circus kept some of thier animals), a ball park, the downtown Main Street, the historic circus buildings, the river of course and the past circus performers houses! It was a fun day out and the walk went fast with all the fascinating things surrounding us!

But I don't think they actually check the time of the ticket or control the flow of the crowds. For the peaks times (up until 10:15pm) it's $27 per person online. You can also walk-in and purchase snacks and tickets in person. The lights were very pretty and there were some interactive elements too. They have a large patio type area with lounge chairs and fire pits in the area before/after the walk. I would highly recommend doing a time that's as late as possible to minimize the number of other people around. It's also a couple bucks cheaper. A part of the path the lights were out. I don't think that was intentional. It was unlit and a little difficult to walk since it was a downhill portion. I liked that there was a bench or two in each of the main displays. I saw lot of families visiting. But the gravel path is not the most accessible. Like another person said other people are the worst part. You'll see hoards of people recording on their phones the entire time. It was fun and I'm glad to have experienced it but there could be improvements on timing when people are let in and keeping the display more maintained. Maybe they could do more frequent time slots and actually adhere to them or limit the number of people during each time and have the storyline sync up with the entry times.

What a top notch experience!…read more Listen, they market this experience well. They make it sound so incredibly magical. So, I was hooked in by the marketing. In the back of my mind, though, I was pretty convinced they were over-selling the enchantment. My friends, if anything, they were under-selling it. It was the coolest, most magical immersive and interactive forest walk of my life. The technology is astounding. As my son who was with me shared after, 'it felt like we were dropped inside a Disney movie'. I couldn't have said it better myself. Beyond the magic, some logistical notes: The trail is wide and dirt/gravel. There are some slightly steep areas and so it's not entirely accessible. My elderly parents opted to skip it and after doing it that was the best call (between the dark, the sometimes slightly uneven ground, and the slightly steep areas, it would have been too much). There are also flashing lights if you're sensitive to that. The entire trail is roughly one mile so you could ostensibly be through with it in 20 minutes. That said, with all the light show magic, it took us just over an hour. There are benches here and there if someone needs a quick rest. I would seriously do this every time I come to the Dells. An absolutely above-and-beyond awe inspiring experience. Get to it!

No wake area, perfect for kayaking!…read more Mirror lake rentals is inside the park, so you do need to get a state park pass for your vehicle. It is $10 a day, or $35 for the entire year. It is recommended that you book in advance if you are a large group, as the kayaks seem to be limited. It is a very popular place, as the scenery changes dramatically. The lake its' self is rather small, but is connected to windy rivers that are lined by orange cliffs. There is a nice mixture of shaded areas, as well exposed sunny areas. There are many beaches to pull up onto, and a dam at the end of the course. The lake is very friendly for beginners and experts. Kayaks are $10 an hour or $25 for a half day. It takes about 2 hours to get to the dam and back, more if you go casually and like to stop a lot like we did!

Any cons? Not really, other than investing in the pass to save. The staff are generally kind & encourage parents to play with their kids, but I will say that sometimes I come here as a mom who needs to take a break & sit down without my phone. If my toddler is playing with her friends I think that is reasonable if she is being safe & not disrupting anyone. It could use a good scrub-down but the center is very large so I'm sure it's not the easiest to keep up on at all times. Overall, the Children's Museum is a blessing to have in Baraboo to beat the winter Midwest blues. There is a fun theme for any boy or girl in an elementary age or younger. It's loaded with buttons to push, creative coloring & things to try on.
