Looking for AC maintenance? I tried to schedule a maintenance appointment today and somehow ended up in a time loop of confusion and finger-pointing. Apparently, my annual service contract expired, was canceled? ... disappeared into thin air ? because--plot twist--the technician forgot to schedule my next appointment. Or maybe customer service forgot. Depends on who you ask. all I know is, I asked the technician about it at the end of my last appointment and he assured me it would be taken care of. By the time I spoke to Haley (7/21/25), who clearly hadn't had her Monday coffee yet, I was about ready to climb onto the roof and clean the coils myself, ...oh wait I did ! Professional tip: if your company can't decide whose job it is to click a calendar button, maybe don't offer annual contracts ... they're now booking maintenance calls a month out, which is adorable considering how urgent Florida heat can be. Not the kind of "cool" I was hoping for. I was quoted $95 for a diagnostic visit if I wanted to have somebody come sooner than one month! From someone who has been receiving your services since 2021 ... Extremely disappointing. Don't worry if I want to pay the $95 and the $150 contract fee they will be happy to reinstate my canceled contract, smh. Another different company came out the next day and gave me a new person discount of $68, had friendly Office staff, and the technician seemed knowledgeable too. I have been a contracted customer of Bowersox for maintaining my AC for several years. On May 12 of this year the unit received its 6 month "preventive maintenance" by Bowersox. My completed invoice contained the following notes by the tech. 1)"All levels of a preventive maintenance has been documented with pictures and videos". 2) "Drain line has been vacuumed, cleaned and primed". On September 28 I found my unit leaking water. I notified Bowersox and was told that they were busy with other customers, but they would have a tech at my residence between 5 and 9 PM! When the tech arrived at about 5:00 PM he found extensive rust built up on my coils and a blockage in my system from the rust. The tech cleaned out the rust and vacuumed my clogged drain. My "full maintenance agreement" contains a check list of 21 maintenance steps. Item number 20 on the maintenance check list says "Treat rusting areas with rust inhibitor". As a result the leaking water has caused $11,000 of damage to my home that is not covered by my home insurance. read more

NOT RECOMMENDED: Unprofessional service. After 2 years of complaining without success about high humidity inside home to Bowersox service techs at each semi-annual visit, I finally decided to enlist a professional assessment where I learned just how badly my system was designed, installed, and maintained. Background: purchased home in fall 2020; Bowersox performed the pre-purchase inspection giving the system and equipment a satisfactory performance rating without noting any discrepancies. However Quality Control installed the system despite Bowersox's stickers and notes on the air handler. On their latest and last visit this past fall and the usual complaints about high humidity (chronically at 66-77%), Bowersox's tech's solution was to purchase a portable de-humidifier for the living room. Really?! The system is less than 5 years old and should work as intended. Furthermore the tech informed me the ultraviolet lamp system is working well. Funny, but the tech did not open the air handler panel or he would've found a burned out bulb and fully disconnected unit. Final straw. We cancelled the semi-annual tech service and brought in true professionals who performed a load calc and passed along their evaluation: improperly built air boxes that were collapsing in on themselves, plenums improperly constructed using wall insulation, tape and mastic for structure, spliced and criss-crossed ducting lying on top of one another and not suspended, air leaks all over, and, to top it off, an unsecured air handler with a non-secured, warped drip pan. We also learned our AC unit is 1 ton too large for the house, which lead to short cycling. In other words, the system would cool the house too quickly and shut off without allowing enough time for evaporating moisture. To be fair, the oversized unit (4 ton vs. 3 ton) was likely needed to compensate for the old windows and doors replaced by us with hurricane rated and better sealed windows and doors. Regardless, the poor design and installation of the air flow system contributed significantly to the interior humidity which a professional service provider would have identified and made proper recommendations for remediation. We have used Tri-County for years, however, when I needed to schedule a maintenance, they were several weeks out, so we decided to try Bowersox who came highly recommended on NextDoor. They performed maintenance, added some freon and also replaced a blower on a separate appointment. Service was OK, I did feel some pressure to replace my units, and their quote for replacement seemed a little on the high end, but not overly so. However, their office staff is awful. Not friendly, bordering on rude. You should really think about replacing your office staff, as I will be switching back to Tri-County on this basis alone! read more

Well this review is long overdue but I waited for a few reasons! It has been exactly one year since I had a new a/c installed in my home by Bowersox Air and I am absolutely thrilled with it! My old a/c was 25 years old (8/10 seer when new in 1999 but probably running like a 4/5) and it leaked if it ran too long! I was in a local contest to win a new a/c with another company during the holidays in 2023 and had the lead till the last hour. Let me just say it all worked out for the right reasons and I could not be more pleased! Bowersox Air offered me a great deal with a fantastic 10 year warranty backed by the manufacturer and NOT a 3rd party! I also received a rebate. Do your research before you buy! Not only is buying a new system important but so are the repairs to expect down the road and who will be there for you when it happens! From start to finish they did such a professional job! First, Jon Curtis came to my 1960 home and did an impeccable job choosing the correct system for my home along with Bruce and more importantly for my old duct work. The company I was in the contest with warned me that I could possibly have a problem with my duct work leaking because the air running through the newer systems is much colder. My ducts are fine and insulated but Bowersox made the right choice for my old home so it was not overloaded. I have no crawl space in my attic either but thankfully I have had no leaks! Installation was done so nicely. Loved how they sealed off my attic and closet where air handler is at and it looks so much better! I have lived in this home for 37 years and have never found the air flow to be so nice and clean! I wish I had done it sooner! All I needed was a very basic 16 seer system but let me tell you the best part of all - I have saved almost a $1000 over the past year alone in my electric bills so if you have an old system like I did you really should consider getting a new one with Bowersox. You could save even more than me with a higher end model and the savings could easily pay for itself! There could be tax credits too! One last thing - I have known Bruce and his family for many years. Bruce grew up in Venice and is now raising his own beautiful family here. He is here to stay and gives back to this community in so many generous ways! Bruce has an incredible team that will always be there when you want them. I was also able to get a repair done reasonably priced on a holiday before I purchased the new a/c when the old company I used was not available on weekends and I hated to wait for parts to come in. I appreciated what the old company did for me but it was a very small and when it is 95 degrees out you do not want to wait to have your a/c fixed. Do yourself a favor and choose the right company the first time - I highly recommend Bowersox Air! You can count on them to not only install right with a great price and warranty but they will be there for you when you need them down the road to do a service for you too! My A/C works great but the outdoor unit is a little noisier than it should be. I called Bowersox and thier tech Mike came out and diagnosed it as needing the compressor replaced. I agreed to the $1,450 repair and he said would be the person to install it when they got the part. So the next day thir office calls and says they will be out to finish the job that day. I said great, and aked if Mike would be the tech, they said yes he will do the job. Then a guy named Chris shows up at my door and promptly informs me that if he installs the compressor it may not fix the concern but I would still have to pay the $1,450. I decided at that point to not have Bowersox do the work. If they can't take responsibility for thier own possible misdiagnosis, I don't need 'em. read more

Air unit was undersized. When a tech showed up to talk about it, he said that summers produce a condition that can't get your ac below 75 degrees. My central air was working fine when they came for a scheduled check up. The guy claimed I needed a TXV replaced at $575 but he couldn't show why because their system was down. He admitted the numbers could be off. At $575 I would prefer to know if the part had to be replaced so I said return when their system is running. A different guy came when it was 50 degrees out which in turn would not give accurate numbers as admitted by the technician. My time is valuable so I advised let's get this right and return when you can show the need. They returned and said it had to be done but didn't really show numbers. I gave in since I'm a snow bird and certainly don't want it breaking down when I'm not here. It took two of them about an hour. The dirt they tracked in wasn't as concerning to me since everything is tile and hard wood but we later realized they left greasy fingerprints on the beige walls around the closet the inside unit is housed as well as the hallway walls and woodwork near it. I scrubbed most of it off but some was too stubborn so I had to paint the one hallway wall. Lucky I had the paint left. To make matters worse when I actually looked at the inside unit they left excess wires sticky out that was there before. The work was unprofessional as was their treatment of my home. I called about my complaint and the receptionist took my number and advised they would call me back. A week later, no call read more

We purchased a new York air conditioner and had the entire duck work replaced 6 months ago and they were fantastic. It was hot, but never out of air at night. While we did start with another company that could not come until Tuesday (the holiday was on Monday), one that we have used other times, this time, we just did not feel comfortable after they came to troubleshoot the issues and gave us choices that just were not acceptable. Not only did they come the next morning, after calling them, but they also solved our issues, first by loaning us a floor model a/c so we could sleep, which by the way, they offered vs us asking for, and then installing a new unit at a price significantly lower than the other company. The woman I spoke to at Bowersox was friendly and professional, and set up a window for a tech to come same day after 3 pm. A tech named Somert called ahead to let me know he was on his way. He's friendly and professional and efficient. You couldn't ask for better. He did the necessary work on my AC, took the time to explain everything he did and patiently answered my questions. Just moved into new house in Sarasota, AC was new but originally installed the old Saturday night special way. Couldn't count the ways some fly by night company installed the unit, it was a mess. Jason, from Bowersox came out for the inspection and caught the problems, he was total pro and man on a mission. Got us a nice credit when purchasing the house and just came out to fix the issues he had found, which turned out to be even more problems. He worked for 6+ hours repairing and getting the very large unit into tip top condition and then gave me a full verbal and picture report of what he did and why. These guys have been servicing my home AC system in Nokomis since I moved in 2 years ago, and for the previous owner, who gave them an excellent review. They do a very thorough service visit every 6 months. the reason for this review is what happened when I had an emergency just before Labor Day Weekend. l knew my system was near its end. It died on Wednesday evening. Left a message that night. They had a technician out first thing on Thursday. He showed me the issue and we needed a new system. Service Manager came right over and explained the options and brought over a portable unit to help us cool off! Friday morning, their crew arrived and worked all day to replace the air handler in attic and outside heat pump.
