I showed him a picture, and I thought I was in good hands. Boy was I wrong, when he was preparing to go to the cash register, I notice that my right side of my hair was 1 inch longer than the left. Can't say enough good things about this shop. They have done awesome, super precise and QUICK cuts on both of my boys. They were so great with my youngest sons first cut even though he was screaming. If I had known what they would do to my hair, I would've just forgone the haircut altogether. The guy cut into the middle of my sideburn with a clipper on, and cut my hair so unevenly that I now have to go to another barber shop just to get it fixed. I sincerely can't believe I paid for the haircut I got here, I just needed to get out, so I could get my interview done. If you're someone takes their appearance even remotely seriously, do not risk it and come here. Just pay the couple dollars and go to a different barber. Quite literally the worst haircut I've received in my adult life. I was in and out in about 3 minutes. I ask for the standard white guy haircut, short/faded on the sides and then leave the front longer to push it up. This idiot shaves the sides of my head even and then just takes all the hair off the top of my head. Nothing left to style, uneven. Not to mention the nice slice this guy left on the back of my head when this moron decided to straight razor the back of my head. I legitimately had to go home and spend a good 15 minutes evening out the sides, back, and top of my head with scissors to make it look presentable (about 6x longer than the actual cut took). My GF asked me if I did it myself when I first saw her and then had her help me even it out. Joke of a place and I can't believe I was dumb enough to go there. The audacity to charge me after this cut was insane. Beyond disappointed and upset with the cut. read more

This place was fantastic. For the money, the best haircut I've ever gotten. Twenty bucks for a beard trim and a haircut plus a hot lather shave on the back of my neck! The place is obviously popular, it was quite crowded when I went. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because my barber was a bit rough when running the clippers over my beard on my neck. I was very red and sore for a few hours, I wish he had been a little more gentle and thought to offer me some soothing lotion. That being said, I'm super happy with my hair cut and highly recommend this place. Just make sure you tell your barber if you have sensitive skin. :-) read more

I'm surprised there are not more reviews for this barber shop. I guess it's because their clientele is primarily mothers who bring their 7-12 year olds. Most people in Newtown would attest to that I'm sure. Any guy who remembers coming here when they were 10 has likely moved on to John's shop just across town where the only talented barbers who ever worked at Bowen's have started their own business. I have no affiliation with John's,that's just the truth. I couldn't get an appointment elsewhere and I was between Bowen's and Great Clips when I made the wrong decision. First of all, this place looks exactly like it did when I got my hair cut there 15 years ago - which isn't such a bad thing but I just want to give you some perspective. It was a slow weeknight, and there was only one boy in the shop getting his haircut while his mother waited, so I was taken right away when I walked in. It was Roy. If you've ever been here you know who he is. Is he the owner? I 'm not sure, but I know he's been working here in the back right spot for 100 years. My family likes to joke about the time when Roy buzzed off part of my brother's eyebrow - it's been a running joke in our family for over 10 years now. But I thought, "hey, if he's been here this long then he has to know what he is doing." Roy, if you're reading this, it is time to hang up the clippers and put down the scissors. Please, before you hurt somebody. He started out slow and his hands were a little shaky. He started from the very top of my head, and he never used any water - which I thought was odd, but what do I know. I had a very uneasy feeling, but again I thought, "he's been doing this for so long, there has to be a method to his madness, I'll let this play out." Mistake. He moved slow and his hands were shaking uncontrollably. Several times I contemplated asking him to just stop and let me cut my losses, but my misguided optimism and fear of confrontation held me back. What resulted was honestly the worst haircut I can ever remember getting. There is a nice chuck missing on the left side of my head where Roy got a little carried away with the clippers for a second, and at work someone asked me if I was drinking with friends last night. The most frightening part was the straight razor shave. Roy's hands were so shaky that I was actually afraid, and I think that he was too. I am not exaggerating. I have never written a yelp review before, and I can only hope that Roy will read this. I know that this is mean. I know that there is someone out there that has been getting his hair cut by Roy for 25 years and loves it every time, but Roy, it is time to put down the scissors and step away from the barbicide. To be fair, this is more a review of Roy the barber than it is this barber shop. I haven't been here in years, so I don't know how well the other barbers work. Roy, you get 1 star only because you are still alive and I had less hair on my head when I walked out than I did when I walked in. read more

This was the fastest haircut I have ever gotten, probably because my barber cared more about getting his smoke break in than cutting my hair. The haircut isn't terrible but he seemed careless when he was doing it and it is not definitely not as tight as the other haircuts I get from other barber shops. It's been a year of haircuts there, $15/cut and I have been happy with the results 85% of the time. Real old fashioned Barber shop with hot lather straight edge shaves, great barbers. No gimmicks, great price and very friendly. They treat everyone the same. When my barber closed his shop I was looking for a new place. Tried the other places in the area and Bowen's was the most professional and friendly, even on my first visit. Price just went up $1.00 but $16 is still a deal. I use Ben or Nedal because their way of doing things is different, but very similar results.
