On February 22, 2025, I suffered a serious fall that resulted in fractures to my C3-C6 vertebrae. I was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, CA, where an MRI confirmed the severity of the injuries. The neurosurgeon who was on call did not want to take the case, but by God's grace Dr. Bowen Jiang happened to be at the hospital and agreed to treat me. He immediately met with me and my family and explained that emergency surgery was necessary. He was honest and compassionate--he would not guarantee an outcome and warned that there was a possibility I might never walk again. After the surgery, I spent three days in the ICU and then two weeks at St. Jude Hospital before finally being able to return home. Dr. Jiang told me recovery could take up to a full year before I could return to my normal routine. Thanks to Dr. Jiang's extraordinary skill and care, my recovery has been nothing short of miraculous. Three months later I was swinging a golf club. Five months later I was back on the football field officiating games. One year later, Dr. Jiang released me from his care. Dr. Jiang not only saved my mobility--he gave me my life back. His surgical skill, honesty, compassion, and willingness to step in during a critical moment are things my family and I will never forget. I truly believe I am walking today because of him. I've recently been experiencing numbness and tingling in both hands, so I scheduled an appointment with a spine surgeon to review my MRI results and figure out what exactly is going on. This was my first time visiting a spine surgery department, and I was really nervous about what might be wrong. I was very fortunate to be assigned to Dr. Shirin (assistant to Dr. Jiang) for my initial consultation. She very carefully asked me about my condition from onset to the present and performed a very patient and thorough physical examination to assess my physical state. She also took the time to patiently explain my MRI images to me and walked me through several treatment options--what to try first, and what the next steps would be if those didn't work. Her approach slowly eased my high anxiety and helped me feel more at peace, giving me a clear idea of what to do next in my treatment. I feel so lucky to have met Dr. Shirin. She even shared her own experience with a similar condition, which gave me confidence that I can recover as well. She provided a lot of emotional support and truly gave me peace of mind. Dr Bowen Jiang is the most excellent surgeon, along with his PA Shirin Heydari. They are like Michael Jordan & Scotty Pipen. Besides their incredible skills, they are friendly and down to earth. LESS IS MORE. I was getting getting epidurals in my back every couple of months because of very painful sciatica. The problem was not getting better and Dr Lee wanted to refer me to a surgeon. I grew up with an ICU trauma nurse as a mom and I know that what surgeons do, is CUT. CUT happy. I didn't want an orthopedic surgeon who believed always cutting was the answer, but instead was sensitive to surgery being. ONE of the answers. Dr Jiang fill that bill perfectly. He listened, ran more tests to determine the level of nerve damage being done and communicated options with me every step. Ultimately, I/we decided on corrective surgery. It was quick, minimally invasive, and I am about 80% better. An 80% improvement works perfectly for me and Dr Jiang is someone I would recommend without hesitation. I came to Dr. Jiang and his practice after dealing with chronic low back pain for the last 10 years following a traumatic fall. I am young, only 28, so most physicians I saw turned their nose at me and said they wouldn't touch me for a surgical fix, especially a revision surgery as I had surgery when I was 20. When I came to Dr. Jiang, I was blown away at his bedside manner. He walked into my first appointment knowing everything about me without referring to my chart. We agreed at trying a more conservative approach at first, and when that wasn't as effective we decided to move forward with surgery. Dr. Jiang made sure to explain all of my risks and that if at any point during the surgery he thought that what he was doing could hurt me, he would stop and not proceed. He is truly amazing. I had a revision lumbar surgery with laminectomy, discectomy and instrumented fusion and I am blown away at how much better I am feeling only 3 week post op. And let me tell you how amazing his PA, Shirin is! She cares so much for her patients and really takes the time to sit down and go over any and all concerns. I will give a 5-star rating to Dr. Jiang's staff, but not to Dr. Jiang. Dr. Jiang's staff have been amazing to me and have been very polite and helpful. I especially like Dr. Jiang's PA, Dr. Heydari. But to be frank, when I met up with Dr. Jiang to go over a recent MRI of my spine, he was nice, at first. After asking him questions and requesting paperwork from him for light-duty at my military unit, he was very rude to me. He was giving me attitude and was giving curt attitude to his staff as well. My MRI was clear and I just wanted to know what was going on and he was less than willing to help me and was rushing to push me out the door. WILL NOT return in the future. read more

I honestly can't say enough about Dr. Jiang and his expertise! My husband presented to the ER with a severe headache and diagnosed with a grapefruit-size meningioma (benign brain tumor). Dr. Jiang and his colleagues had a plan in place and performed a very difficult surgery within 24 hours. Dr. Jiang was able to completely remove the tumor and my husband has no neurological deficits. He kept in close contact with myself and the rest of our family during this difficult time. His physician's assistant, Shirin, was very kind and knowledgeable, as well. My surgery was successful. The reason for my surgery being so successful was Dr Jiang, and his great staff. I had a fusion to my L 4th and 5th. I had severe pain all down the right side of my leg into my foot. Dr Jiang put me at ease and telling me that he would be able to correct my problem. When I came out of surgery I had no more pain I can walk without a limp and I can stand without pain my recovery has been great within 5 weeks I am walking without pain and back to riding my bike. So I was in sciatica pain that brought me to tears and suffering. That's the unfortunate truth. When I went to Dr Jiang, he took a look at my MRI he gave me a range of choices for my consideration. Dr Jiang has superior credentials that include Stanford medical school, residency and fellowship at John Hopkins. He tells you what he sees then communicates your options. Dr Jiang determined the urgency of my situation and a week and a half and I was in the operating room with him and his team. I get a bit nervous when contemplating surgery but Dr Jiang and his team made me at ease with the communication with me every step of the way. They communicated the procedure I was having performed on me days before and on the day of surgery. I was confident that when I was in the operating room that everyone was on the same page as I was. Dr Jiang and his entire surgical and office staff are top notch. I mean that in all truthfulness. The next day Dr Jiang called me to see how I was doing. When I first met Dr. Jiang my spinal stenosis was so severe I could barely walk. After reviewing my MRI results, he said I was a perfect candidate for his minimally invasive robotic surgery. My husband saw him recently where they found a huge Meningioma and we were blessed and fortunate to have him referred to us by our regular doctor. From the moment we saw him, through the surgery, and afterwards, we felt that we were in the best hands of a doctor who cared, explained things that we could understand and kept us informed throughout my husband's stay in the hospital. I had a herniated disc on my L5 S1 since July. The constant sciatic nerve pain on my right buttock, back thigh, and calf made my life miserable! In late August, I was lucky to find Dr. Jiang. After reviewing my MRI, he suggested that I try Physical Therapy and epidural injections first before going directly to surgery. However, he said I needed to see him again if pain continued after one and a half month. After many sessions of PT and 2 epidural injections, my pain didn't go away. I returned to Dr. Jiang on 11/2. With the help of his amazing care team, especially Maryann to deal with the insurance company, Dr. Jiang was able to perform my microdisectomy after 2 weeks. I feel so blessed to have Dr. Jiang, his wonderful assistant Shirin, and his supportive team on my side; they went above and beyond my expectations. As soon as I got out of the hospital bed, I was able to stand with no sciatica on my right side. I'm now 4 weeks post-op; I feel fantastic, walking normal, and I finally have my life back.
