We had booked the Old Caledonian and had an absolutely amazing stay. Since there's not many dining options in the area, we added on a made to order dinner, which ended up being the best meal during our weeklong trip in Missouri. The grounds are absolutely beautiful with a flowering garden, gazebo, magnolia tree, koi pond, hot tub and sauna. We spent our evening out in the yard watching fireflies and listening to their fountain. Inside, every corner is packed with antiques and vintage charm. Most rooms feature a bathtub but to shower (at least in the upstairs rooms,) there is a communal bathroom. We happened to be the only guests so it was fine. It also featured a library with plenty of books to read and board games to play. The owners were absolutely lovely people and cooked us wonderful meals, delivered with attentive service. We were able to make requests for vegetarian food and they prepared a delightful veggie curry and green goddess quinoa bowl for dinner. For breakfast we were served yogurt and fruit, veggie quickie and some lovely homemade scones. There are their own handmade lavender products for sale as well. Beds and pillows were super comfy and they had some great green tea bath products for use. We had such a magical time enjoying the early summer in Caledonia and the folks here were such a big part of that. Upon booking, you choose your room. My room was great, the mattress perfect, the claw foot tub was amazing, mini fridge, WiFi, Keurig, everything I needed in one room and tastefully decorated! Downstairs there was a library with board games and books. A yoga studio upstairs. Hot-tub and sauna in the back of the property. Breakfast was freshly made and also to note, one of the best parts of my birthday getaway. The inn keepers were super welcoming and hospitable, making for a warm, comfortable birthday stay. I love this. I enjoy planning my own winery snacks. I was bummed when many wineries quit allowing food because they opened kitchens. So if I have to pay $30+ for food. I'm buying less wine. You can get a flight of wines for $5 or a glass of wine or a pint of beer for $5 each. You can even do a tour and tasting for $10. Plus, all the bottles are pretty much under $25. And they have quite a large variety of whites, reds, and roses too. Cindy, one of the owners, is so very friendly and helpful. She will go through an entire tasting with you with the highest level of patience, allowing you to taste and try anything you'd like to. This gym is clean, huge, is filled with friendly employees, offers plenty of parking, sells snacks and drinks, is perfect for parties (as it has 4-5 huge tables for cake/presents/decorations/etc), and if you decide not to decorate - that's fine too, because it already looks decorated! When we arrived at check-in, it was super easy to get checked in and everyone was very kind. They have a store with some small items if you forgot anything. The owners live on site and they let me and my kids go visit their puppies and play in the puppies area/run house. They are very kind and spoke to us often throughout. They even offered to go to the store to pick AA batteries for us and a couple other things instead of us going to the store and purchasing it from them directly that was very kind and going above. The only reason for the four star is, I did call them to get additional towels for the cottage house we rented. Whoever answered the phone had hesitation in their voice, and seemed annoyed that I was asking for extra towels. They asked how many people were in our party because they saw a lot of people.kitchen told them yes we rented the cottage house +3 primitive cabins we had a large party, but we were not over using any space. He thought hesitation in his voice and I explained to him we only had two towels and he was more than welcome to come check if he doubted us he said oh that's strangely usually put four or five in the house I said well, they didn't then they offered to bring more as much as we all spent for the entire weekend. It was a little frustrating how we were treated in that specific scenario. They had paddle boats you could rent and we rented two. It was a decently priced 35 for four hours. They also have horseback riding and a couple other things that you can pay additional for. The cottage was fully stocked. HAD TO MAKE AN ADJUSTMENT TO MY REVIEW... PLEASE READ THE…read moreENTIRE THING! (ORIGINAL POST!) Rented a "Billy Goat" walk-behind brush cutter... rented from this company before but this machine was a HUGE disappointment. I spent a grand total of $227.50 for a two-day rental and not only did this thing look like it had been, "rode hard and put up wet," I got the only Honda GTX Powered piece of equipment on the planet that ran so poorly it was pathetic, to be specific... 1 - Coughed and sputtered for ten minutes before smoothing out... 2 - When it finally smoothed out, it didn't have the power to get out of its own way unless it was at full throttle... 3 - At full throttle, it guzzled up two, one-quart tanks of gas to cut an area the size of a tennis court... 4 - Power reverse wouldn't make it back on anything but a perfectly level piece of ground and if the grass is damp, forget it.... 5 - Blade must have been square, pushed over more than it cut down... I guess that's about it. The people are friendly and helpful, but the equipment they rent is garbage. (not their fault, the company owns it, the employees don't) If you go there to rent a brush cutter, and they bring out "Billy Goat" Brush Cutter #17394 tell them to take it back into the shop and get you a different one, or give you your money back. (NOTE : I gave them three stars instead of 1 because like I said, they can only rent what the company gives them and pays to keep in optimal condition. They're good people, but the company's commitment to renting first rate equipment, not so much.) (HERE'S THE NEW SCOOP ON THIS BUSINESS...) When I arrived back at their location and told them of the problems it had in pretty much the same order as I have typed here, the guy behind the desk apologized for condition of the equipment, noted which one of their machines it was, instructed one of the guys in the back part of the shop to go unload it for me, (It took the guy several minutes to get it started...) and then the dude at the front desk REFUNDED THE ENTIRE $227.50! I had expected to only get back the second day's rental since I had already had it overnight, but I got back every dime. I'm glad they took an ethical stance for a customer who got nearly no use out of a machine. Changed my mind about the company in five minutes flat. Still think Billy Goat #17394 is ready for the scrap heap, but I'll recommend the company. 10 out 10 for service to a customer.
