The bridge to our special place
    Sara M.

I love this bridge, but only because it leads to a favorite place and I hate this bridge because in the other direction it means I am leaving a favorite place. It is exciting to approach it but often has much traffic if you go at the wrong time of day or the wrong day of the week or the wrong week of the year. Be aware and plan as best as you can. And there is often is construction as there was this vacation. You cannot plan that, but you can relax and be careful. And of there is fog, as there is at certain times of year, be really careful. Accidents around the Bridge make it worse for everyone. It is historic and it crosses the Cape Cod Canal. very picturesque for sure. Relax and enjoy it while you can.

The Bourne Bridge in Bourne, Massachusetts carries Route 28 across the Cape Cod Canal, connecting Cape Cod with the rest of Massachusetts. It won the American Institute of Steel Construction's Class "A" Award of Merit as the "Most Beautiful Steel Bridge" in 1934. Most traffic approaching from the west follows Massachusetts Route 25 which ends at the interchange with US 6 and Route 28 just north of the bridge. The highway provides freeway connections from Interstate 495 and Interstate 195...that's where we came from...from 195. The view of the bridge as we approach is beautiful and magnificent. One of the two bridges that you would take as you travel towards Cape Cod. Lots of shops and stores before getting on the bridge, so you can stop and get a coffee, a snack or a meal before or after.

we drove to cape cod mass this morning. we crossed this beautiful bridge. the bridge was absolutely beautiful. my dad wanted to see the cape cod canal. . i was most inpressed because we hit no traffic. normally when we go to mass. we get stuck in traffic. sometimes for a few hours.

    Night work. I'm looping.

It's a bridge. A pretty sturdy bridge that hasn't failed me or lots of other people yet. It conveys me over a canal to get from one side of land to another. Can be be choked with lots of tourists at times if you don't plan accordingly to season or time of day, but otherwise it is expedient and has nice views if you can look left to right fast enough. 10/10 would recommend as only one of two ways to get on Cape quickly with a car.

It's a Bridge. It's one of 2 bridges that go over the canal. These 2 bridges are the only way to get to the Cape. Short of flying or swimming. This one seems to get a little less traffic. Because it's further south. And does not have direct access to route 6 or route 3. I actually prefer this bridge. Since I like the view of the adjacent railroad bridge. So if a bunch of us Yelpers conspire and all give the Bourne a 1-Star rating, you think people will believe us, refuse to drive over this bridge and use the Sagamore instead? Ah that would be sweet!

Gets you over the canal ok but the near constant maintenance keeps it strictly a 3 star bridge lol

Came for the bridge, left disappointed. The thumbnail is actually a railroad bridge, VERY misleading.

Now in my opinion it looks identical to the Sagamore bridge and was built in the 1930s like the Sagamore which might be the reason.

There's a lot of interesting and good information, and I liked the people. But.... The first half of the tour is in an old mini bus. The bus has tiny windows, like 4" square, and no air circulation. No fans. No air conditioning. Today was nearly 90 out by 10 am, when our tour started, and temperatures inside the bus got so hot that stepping out felt cool! You don't travel far, and then they stop for 10 minutes to talk about what's out the window. It's brutal. Ironically, the travel distances are so slim most people could walk it. But, just sitting on the bus in the heat? Yuck. The second half is in an old shed where you learn about harvesting. Again, it could be interesting, but it's a good 10° hotter, even with the fans going, and it makes it hard to focus. Or even listen. Better weather would have helped. But, we had an old lady in our tour group nearly pass out, and the guide indicated that that was not uncommon. Heck, complimentary water would be nice. Waters are a dollar. The tour is fifteen. It's all cash only.
