My work team did a service day and selected Hope Harvest Food Bank as our place to serve our…read morecommunity. I found this group on the website volunteermatch.org. I was contacted within a couple hours of submitting an information request and set up a day and time for my group within a day! Arriving at the location was easy with the directions, signage, and big parking lot. We filled out some simple paperwork and were lead into the back. Our leader gave us a quick history of the food bank and the amount of people they serve, its incredible! Families can come 1x/month. We were lead into the food pantry back where instructions were given about produce packing, pantry item distribution, and building carts of food based on family size. It was very organized and easy to do. We had a great time meeting other volunteers, learning about the food bank, and giving carts of food to those in need. It was sad bringing carts of food out to people and never receiving a "thank you." It makes you wonder what happened to these people that they don't show gratitude to the volunteers of Harvest Hope. I hope the workers get an overflow of blessings and gratitude in other ways.

A person makes a food donation and places it inside the box. Anyone in need is welcome to take food. This is obviously a wise church ministry. It's difficult for a hungry person to be receptive of a spiritual message if their empty stomach is growling louder than the message from the messenger. There's a reason why Jesus commanded us to feed the hungry! I love the idea of Jacob's Pantry and I will start today putting canned food in this donation box whenever I'm in the area which is often!

Let's get into what this place is because the name is about as vague as it gets. This place accepts donations from denizens of Kingsport Tennessee in the act of giving free hand outs to those in desperate need of Food, Water, Clothes, or other supplies. Sometimes they host a giant Yard sale on Saturdays where people can sell their goods in hopes to make money. They provide some things for free (But nothing you REALLY need like food and water), only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 AM to 2:30 PM. However after reading the updated hours, now it's only 10 AM - 2:30 PM on Thursday only. They keep the really good stuff inside. All the food, water, clothes and supplies one would need to get by. Of which they willing give out. The Problem is, you need an APPOINTMENT to take items. And there's a limit to how MANY items you can take. If memory serves and don't quote me on this, I think it was 10 items. If you want to make an appointment, you're gonna be waiting for like a MONTH. AND they are ONLY OPEN on THURSDAY! So basically, you only can get donations on ONE DAY of the 7 day week with a very long waiting list to get supplies you need like NOW. By the time you actually are able to go in to get items, it will be too late to be helpful, and not enough to be helpful. You could do volunteer work. For ever one hour you work, you basically are granted $1 you can use to buy one of their items. My husband did this volunteer work and it was less effective than calling Corporate on a Bad Business. Meanwhile we're financial struggling cause given how high the cost of living is these days, we can barely afford our Rent. Not to mention at that point we were both unemployed. Side note, there's literally a homeless woman and her dog living in their car next to the store with permission to live there. I legit mistook it for loitering and alert the Police about it before I realized, or her and her dogs are legally permitted to live there. This place is a joke. A waste of your time. It's like someone dangling a carrot over your head which is just far enough out of your reach to get. If you're so big on helping those in need, why be so darn restrictive that it's no longer being helpful. It's just being an annoyance. Given your donations you legitimately have everything you need to help those who can't afford basic things like Food and Water. You're literally sheltering a homeless woman outside your store basically by allowing her to stay, and yet you have this many restrictions. Hope Helps? Yeah right. More like I Hope you have another plan to get help, cause you ain't finding it here.

We stayed in Lotz Lodge, a beautiful modern facility set among the historic grounds -- the perfect balance of comfort and tradition, ideal for family reunions or gatherings of 12 or more. The lodges have everything you need, plus easy access to the incredible amenities on site and nearby attractions: the charming cafes and shops of Black Mountain, Asheville's vibrant scene and the Biltmore Estate, local apple orchards, and even tubing down the French Broad River. YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly is more than a retreat center -- it's a place of history, resilience, and community that continues to change lives, mine included.

Depending on what time of year, you might get to see bear cubs and their mommy. We saw turkeys cross the street. Lots of activities to do. The rooms do not have irons and ironing boards. Aside from the hygiene issue with the blankets, we enjoyed our stay.
