The main lobby is only accessible by stairs; for a luggage cart you need to go around the back of the hotel, near the dumpster, to find the lower lobby (which is just a back entrance). The beach chair and umbrella included with your stay is a coupon for a free rental from Bert's which is on the beach - they're only open till 5p and can be difficult to locate. Overall an OK stay, convenient location but not glamorous.

The lobby is small, but always well appointed with a friendly staff member behind the desk. There are two elevators and five floors. The pool is located on the top of floor five which is very nice because you can get good sun up there. You can also see the boardwalk and the ocean. We have stayed in the past on the Fourth of July so we were able to be out of the crowds and watching the fireworks from up stairs. On the fourth floor there is a mezzanine level with picnic tables and umbrellas. It is wonderful to bring food back and enjoy dinner there away from the chaos of the boardwalk. It is conveniently located about two blocks from the boardwalk. There is a cute ice cream store next-door. It is very close to Asbury Avenue and the shopping. The rooms are well appointed stove, refrigerator sink, small family room and adjoining bathroom to the bedroom which each room has a balcony. The hotel is clean each room differs because they are privately owned. There is made service service and laundry on each floor. It is non-smoking which is very very very nice. We like it here we've always had a good time. I highly recommend it. I can't speak for every room in the hotel as they are different but the ones that have always been very nice confident

A dusty floor, dirty diapers left in the trash can, uncomfortable, too soft beds, furniture that looked like it was from a garage sale, one single chair in the room for 3 people, no table, a bedside lamp that was broken, a bathroom with no bathtub, clearly was for disabled people, no shelving, no hooks for towels or robes, paper thin walls because of an adjoining room next door, that you could hear their conversation and their kids screaming...and yet I could go on. I really dislike leaving a negative review as there are several nice things about the hotel…read more However, everything I am writing below, I told directly to the hotel. Booking this hotel was a nightmare. I called to get a rate and ask questions. I called 4x and no one picked up. Out of desperation, I finally sent an email. I got a call the next day with a rate. However, when I tried to book that rate online, it was different. So, now I am trying to call the hotel again. Again, called 3x and no one picks up so I leave a message. I get a returned call and am told the online booking "includes a resort fee, but we can put that back on your credit card or I can take your card over the phone with the lower rate." I opted to pay over the phone (for the record, it's one of those hotels that charges you for using a credit card.). I was told to call the day before our arrival and advise when I'd like to check in because they would try to accommodate. This is a nice gesture and I appreciate it, but it's not nice when you call and guess what? No one picks up! We called the morning of our arrival and they did accommodate an early check in which was nice. You should know that you check in in 1 building and walk to another where you are actually staying. There is no security. Anyone can walk into the hotel (no lobby). You are literally walking into a hall with an elevator and there are no safeguards like needing a room key to make the elevator work. (They use old fashioned keys.) Room was cheerful, clean and looked like the photos. Our bathroom had a window that the view was a hallway. You had to put a screen down or people walking bay could see into your bathroom/shower. Odd. I would also say the walls are very thin. You can hear everyone and anyone walking past your door, etc. We went to OC for First Night and spend NYE having a wonderful time there, but when got back at midnight, there was no hot water. None. We were all freezing and none of us could take a shower. Sadly, I called the "front desk" and surprise! No one picked up. I called 3x. When I checked out, they said "The envelope with the keys had an emergency phone number on it. You should have called that. This makes no sense. The info on the phone in the room gives you a front desk number. I explained my frustration. The desk person said he'd try to get some compensation. 2 days later I got an email that $30 was taken off the room. I called to confirm this was for the lack of hot water. The same man who was at check out is who I spoke to. "I was able to discount the room rate, but I need to discuss with the owners anything else. I will call you on Tuesday and let you know what happens." Today is Wednesday and never heard from them. I am rating them "poor" because they never followed up. I had no expectations about further compensation, but please please please don't say you will follow and then not do so. Poor form.

Plymouth Inn in Ocean City NJ is a wonderfully restored B&B. The ambiance very well matches the tone of the city itself. It is calming, it is welcoming, it is quiet but has lots to do for both kids and adults and the very adult adults. (You figure out the meaning of "very adult", but when you are ready, read on.) I'm talking senior citizens. No mountains to climb. The biggest mountain we encountered were the ramps up to the Boardwalk. Back to the Inn. Our hosts, Nick and Shirley were helpful, accommodating, amiable, welcoming, friendly, enthusiastic. Would we go back? An unqualified YES! Being a B&B you can readily expect breakfast. No disappointment there. We were served very delicious, well prepared, appropriately cooked (Eg. Waffles, Pancakes, Quiches) breakfasts. Everything was fresh from the fruit salad down to the cakes and breads. There are two main rooms - the dining room and a living/music/game room. All well appointed. Really nice furniture and decoration in both rooms. For example, the flatware and dishes in the dining room were period appropriate. And, don't forget the front porch - shaded, rocking chairs, tables, all flanking the main entrance. On site parking, too. The bedrooms were well appointed. The beds were comfy for us, our adult children and grandchildren. Our room was a single room with Queen? bed and our kids had a 2 room suite with bathroom in between for them and the grands. Those were King? beds. Hot water, clean, comfy linens and pillows, .... were more than adequate. One comment, at first I was put aback by the fact that Ocean City NJ is a dry town. No alcohol sold, no alcohol served, no public drinking, no BYOB. However, all the other aspects more than offset this one. The vibe was very mellow and family friendly. Now, the boardwalk and beach itself. Isn't that a main reason for going to the Jersey Shore? It is reminiscent of the old Atlantic City of "rolling chairs" made from wicker pushed on the boardwalk, salt water taffy, fudge, ice cream shops, food shops, amusement opportunities like ring tosses, knock down stuffed animals with a baseball, take home dolls when you win...... The big difference is you pedal the surrey (the "Rolling Chairs"). I saw some surreys with 2 - 2 person bicycles linked side by side to the same frame that the riders power themselves. All the food, clothing, games, biking, theater, was there. Some were modernized like the mini golf with more sophisticated holes, shooting hoops (Don't ever remember seeing that in the late 40's after the war or 50's), baseball speed pitching,.. Go, you'll like it! I said "go!", especially to the Plymouth Inn.

For bed and breakfast lovers, it is perfect. Our host Nick was very hospitable and gracious and an excellent chef in the kitchen. The inn is elegant with an early 1900's flair. The room was vey quaint with a large comfortable bed. The dining room was very spacious with large windows that flood the room with light. Breakfast was delicious, with sweet cake, muffin, fruit, your choice of beverage and the main breakfast entree which varies from day to day. And to top it off, the Plymouth Inn is only one block from the boardwalk! For an extraordinary place to stay in Ocean City, NJ, I recommend the Plymouth Inn!!

Most of the hotels in the area were booked and we were lucky to find a room at this inn for a moderate price. The amenities are bare minimum - no TV, wifi only downstairs in the common area. But the place is kept clean and tidy. If you're just looking for a place to sleep and probably spend most of your time exploring the area/boardwalk - this is a great option. For oct (off peak season) we paid ~$85 for the room with taxes. You can find metered parking on most streets and if you're lucky to find a spot - this hotel is on a street where there is free/no metered parking. They provide towels and soap - just pick them up in the corner area to the side on every staircase. We had room 17 which was perfect for 2-3 people (double and single bed) with an attached bathroom. I don't believe all units have attached bathrooms so be sure to ask for one if you don't want to use a communal bathroom/shower. The beds and linens were ok - not the most comfortable but for one night it didn't matter. For check in and check out - just go through the front door and ring the bell for assistance. The sweet elderly lady whom I assume owns the property was very accommodating and nice. She even offered for us to come back after checkout to use the facilities to shower/clean up if we wanted to after the marathon.

Staff here are what make this place go from good to great. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. They seem to enjoy working here. Rooms are well maintained. There is a Cafe on site where you can get lunch and dinner. Only ate there once but it seemed good enough. Parking spots are a little tight and you only get one so if you have two cars you will need to find another place to park. Office has coffee all day and my sister preferred to get it from there rather than make it in the room so that was a plus. Office also has games you can borrow and we took advantage of that one night. I would happily stay here again. It was a nice relaxing week.
