Poor communication between the front desk and the providers. Called very soon after they opened to let them know I'd be late as I was stuck in traffic driving there from Fort Collins. The drive ended up taking 2 hours, and I called again once I was closer to let them know I'd be 20 minutes late to the start time of the appointment and that I was stuck in traffic just down the street, and was told that I could not come to the appointment and that it would have to be rescheduled. The PA I was meant to see did call and follow up and said she still would have done the appointment and asked if I was still in town and could come in, which I could not because I'd turned around as soon as I was told that I could not be seen. She is friendly and kind, but i am still saddened by my treatment from the front desk when I did my best to make it to the appointment. read more

Dr Jack was very unprofessional, and acted like my health concerns were not valid. Ended up going to a real doctor and they listened to my health concerns and they sent me to the ER. Also the nursing staff was very unprofessional talking about other patients. I tried to get my medical records from someone named Jenny she was very rude and unhelpful, my new Dr got them for me. read more

Then after charging me a "friends and family discount" , they charged me double. I was charged for a follow up phone call!? WTF He said he gave me medical advise, which is totally false. BE CAREFUL IF YOU DON'T WANT THEM TO STEAL YOUR MONEY! They told me that they accepted my insurance. My appointment was postponed due to COVID-19, and my partner (with the same insurance) had an appointment in the meantime. They checked what was covered under his insurance and he accepted ONE additional small charge. Then the morning of my appointment, they called to say that they do not, in fact, accept my insurance. They never told my partner this and continued to try and schedule more appointments with him. They're COMPLETELY disorganized, no one seems to know what is going on, they kept saying they would charge one amount and then billed a different amount. Now they're trying to charge an additional fee for a check-up phone call saying it was an appointment (a phone call where he was told nothing new for $120?! that's insane). Their billing department also confirmed that a lot of people are having similar issues with being billed unapproved amounts unexpectedly, and the office refuses to resolve the issues. So you basically have to pay or risk ruining your credit. I WOULD AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS (unless you want to pay out of pocket and deal with a completely disorganized medical practice). I've chosen Boulder Valley Family Practice as my principal provider even though it is at some distance from my home. **** My review: Personalized, responsive health care such as Boulder Valley Family Medicine offers is increasingly rare in America--due mostly to federal policies that encourage consolidation, specialization, and paperwork. There are great advantages to BVFM's approach. But prospective patients should understand that personalized, quality medicine has costs. I've seen negative reviews that arise from failing to understand those costs. Advantages of the BVFM approach: * Appointments are available far more quickly than in most offices. * The providers are generalists, so they are more likely to see interrelationships between health issues that specialists don't see. *As generalists, they are used to treating the whole patient--Dr. Stanley Jack is, for example, trained in skeletal manipulation most physicians can't do. And for diagnostic purposes they are willing to touch the patient rather than merely rely on technology (and, yes, they use technology, too). * The office is small and personal. * They are open to different ideas rather than clinging to stereotyped ways of doing things. * Compared to most offices, there is less paperwork. Costs: * Generalists may not know things that a specialist would know. (Of course, you get the advantages of specialized knowledge only if you happen to choose the right specialist!) * Because BVFP is a small office, they have to make sure bills are paid on time and in adequate amounts. One reviewer complained that they don't take Medicaid. The reviewer should address that complaint to the federal and state governments, which both grossly underpay physicians and impose crushing paperwork duties on them. A small office that relies significantly on Medicaid risks going bankrupt. * Larger medical offices often pressure their providers to generate cash by seeing as many patients as quickly as possible. BVFP takes the necessary time with each patient. Also, there is less staff to shift around. So sometimes you have to wait to be seen. But the complaint of one reviewer--a half-hour wait time--was absurd. That's pretty common even in institutional medical offices. All in all, Boulder Valley Family Practice is an excellent blend of the advantages of modern medicine with the advantages (and occasional costs) of traditional, personal care. One last point: I'm seen negative reviews of BVFP colored by a bigoted response to Dr. Jack's Christian religion. I do not share his religion, but bigotry has no place in America. I was visiting the area and made an appointment online with the Nurse Practitioner, Ann. I told her that I was pregnant and what my issue was (it was just general health, not even an OBGYN issue). Upon meeting me and reading my medical records, she said that actually she couldn't see me for this issue, apologized, said there was no charge, and gave me a referral elsewhere. Their office subsequently billed my insurance for an actual appointment with her, and they subsequently billed me. Their shady and hostile office staff tried to double down on their right to bill me, and when confronted with evidence that they did not treat me or provide me with the services they billed for, fabricated that they did urine testing (they absolutely did not!). I had to open a claim for fraud with my insurance. I guarantee you they inappropriately billed me because they knew I lived out of state and they thought they could probably just dodge me on the phone and get away with it. Really shady and unethical practice, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, local or visiting. read more

I have full confidence that Dr. Jack and his administrative team will listen to me and that they genuinely care about my well being. I had a great first meeting at this establishment and everyone was friendly and upbeat. I met with Ann, the NP, and she prescribed me Wellbutrin for my depression and anxiety. As it turns out, my anxiety was heightened by the Wellbutrin and I decided it would be best to get off my medication, so I called and left a message for Ann to call me back so that we could discuss other medications. I didn't hear back from her because she was busy, so I called the next day (which was a Friday) to see if I could get on a new medication before the weekend. Well, not only did Ann never call me back, but the receptionist, Kate, was rude and insensitive and told me, "I dunno WHEN she's gonna get back to you. You'll just have to wait!" Well, that sent me into a fullblown panic attack and I had to go to the emergency room to get treated. I am never going back to Boulder Valley Family Practice again. I need a practitioner who is available when I need them, or at least more readily available. Furthermore, Kate needs to take a lesson on empathy from the other receptionists. read more

I have never had such a bad experience at a doctors office. I first went to Dr. Jack, and was prescribed an SSRI. I then got switched to their nurse practitioner Patrician Henderson for some apparent reason during the following years. When my prescription ran out I expressed a few concerns and she switched me to Wellbutrin, which is not an SSRI and not used to treat the symptoms I have. She did not even ask me what I was on my SSRI for (ie, anxiety vs depression) and immediately switched me without even weening me off of a mind altering drug. You don't need to be a doctor to know that you can't cut somebody off cold turkey! I had such bad withdrawal, shaking, vomiting, insomnia, ect. After a horrible few weeks I do some research and see that Wellbutrin does not treat what I need an SSRI for at all. I'll take credit for not asking her prompting questions or doing my own research, but I thought these were professionals I could trust. So I called to speak with her - as you should be allowed to do when changing a mind altering drug. They had the audacity to ask me to pay for an appointment. I thought you were encouraged to speak to your doctor when going through medication changes? This would be a 2 minute phone call and you want me to pay for it. I have had so many doctors in the past that are happy to pick up the phone and talk to you about whether or not this drug is every safe for you. This place is an absolute scam, and DANGEROUS. A nurse practitioner is prescribing serious drugs without thinking of any of the consequences. Do NOT go here! read more

I am writing as a nervous Mom with a kiddo attending CU Boulder who became unexpectedly sick. They were very kind to squeeze him in and then get him out quickly with minimal impact on his rigorous academic schedule. As a college student who has a bike as the only transportation means, this location is great! He is also an athlete, so learning that the practice specializes in sports medicine was the icing on the cake; I hope he never has to pay a vising for that reason, but if needed, I feel great knowing they are there and are so kind and accommodating to students! read more

Dr. Jack is a fine DO, but over the last few years has had SEVERAL personnel changes and they have not been for the better. His back office is terrible, communication to between the patient and the doctor or other medical staff is terrible. So my friends and family are leaving, despite the care provided by Dr Jack. read more
