If I could give 10 stars I would. The staff here is incredible. I went in for a scary exam and they were so on top of everything. My nurse practitioner, Renee, was incredibly thorough and knowledgeable. She asked questions that none of my previous docs have, she gave me valuable insight and advice and she moved my case through the system urgently, as it should have been all along.I have been to a few different clinics over the past week and have left feeling frustrated and hopeless. The entire team here got me in quickly, took my situation seriously and all worked together to get me scheduled ASAP for some crucial scans. My other doctors didn't help with this process and I was only able to get scans at least 2 months out. I can't recommend this team enough. My anxiety has been through the roof over the past few weeks, but I finally feel like I am in good hands and with a trusted group of medical professionals. They have undoubtedly made a major, positive impact in my life and I am grateful to have found them. read more

I am pretty sure whoever gave a 5 star review is their staff! What a horrifying experience for a place that claim to be WOMEN's health center. Not only they canceled my first appointment that I've been waiting for months claiming they doctor is on leave, they didn't bother to schedule another appointment till I had to call back and ask for one. Finally during the appointment, it was a horrible experience. Nurse was extremely rude to me the way she asked me to undress to get ready for the docotr. Almost an hour in the room waiting to be examined, only to find out that the doctor didn't need me to undress, didn't bother to examine, and just dismissed all my pain with couple of questions and putting me on birth control. Without examining, without performing an echo ( because they didn't have a machine in the office) no lab work, nothing! It was a waste of 3 months waiting for this useless chat with a "Doctor" appointment.. read more

This place is awful. It's really just a quickie in-&-out for college birth control. Because it was in Boulder I thought I could be given some up to date info about hormones and HRT for women... I was so wrong. They gave me the same garbage info from the crappy 2002 study payed for by big pharma using synthetic & horse hormones. It gave women cancer?? Oh, you think?? Not only that, I needed my IUD replaced right away so I went ahead and made the mistake of letting those butchers insert it.... Right into the side of my uterus. It was so painful I screamed. They looked at me like I was crazy- but a couple years later that's exactly what it showed during a CT scan of my low back. IUD lodged right into the side. Now I get to have it removed. Don't go here if you are looking for any sort of class or quality service. read more

Make an appointment if you are not on a "time constraint" because even though you show up on time, they will be running behind; we're talking two hours behind. When you ask how much longer, "30 minutes or so" is not an acceptable answer. Also, answering "we're trying to prioritize" is not ever an OK answer- all patients should be a priority. Patient care should be a priority. Rooms are outdated and equipment is dirty. read more

I appreciate and support the women's center and all they do to provide healthcare for women in this day and age. However, i went in a few months ago to get a copper IUD placed. I was informed of the risks and had all my questions answered, and decided to proceed with the insertion. however, my doctor made an error during the process and cut the strings of my IUD too short. she did not tell me about this issue until after i had left the office. she called me and told me she made a mistake and that it could cause the IUD to be displaced and ineffective. it was the most painful experience of my life. she told me to not have sex for 6 months and get the placement of the device checked every few weeks (via ultrasound, which they do not have). I had the worst side effects for 8 months before i decided to get it removed. the process of taking the device out was so much more difficult and painful because the strings were cut too short. Although the copper IUD has many side effects, i do believe i suffered more due to the malpractice of the doctor. I understand a women's center is meant to help women, and i do support the cause in the highest degree- it just sucks to see women suffering when they don't have to. I also understand that they are probably understaffed, which is not their fault, but I have never been on hold for less than 25 minutes. waited 45 minutes on hold yesterday while being told i was first in line. nobody ever came to the phone and i had to leave a message, and they never called me back. I recommend this center for those looking to get minor procedures or tests done (STD screening, UTI care, etc) but not for IUDs or any other type of procedure. read more

Fantastic. So here's the short of it: if you make about $12,000 a year, you can get your annual physical exam, pap, and birth control pills here for absolutely nothing. As in zero dollars. There is a sliding scale fee for their services, so even if you make a decent salary, I'm sure the price is still very reasonable. If the free factor isn't enough, the office itself is beautiful, warm, and welcoming. The receptionist was friendly, and the nurse practitioner who did my exam was both extremely sweet and very informative. I always find it funny that when you pay to see a doctor (the guys who make the big bucks) they try to rush you out the door asap so they can get on to their next client. However when you go to a free clinic, the people there actually care about their patients, and take the time to go over all your questions. So instead of going to the health department or Planned Parenthood for your reproductive needs (the latter doesn't offer a sliding scale fee for exams or birth control pills in Denver), come here. I can't recommend this place enough. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect when I made an appointment here. I have health insurance, but appreciated their day prior appointment scheduling system and their 'empower the individual' attitude. I was still completing my final form when they took me into the waiting room. Their forms (and staff) were very thorough and non-judgmental about gender and sexual orientation/preferences. The nurse practitioner mentioned that they have recently started supporting transgendered patients, something I would not have expected in Boulder. They took the time to discuss the newer birth control options and compare/contrast them to my present method. We discussed the epidemiology/pathology/diagnostics for various STIs and breast cancer, and changes in testing recommendations before I was given the option of which tests I received. I didn't get the lecture about how I should consider breeding soon, a major pet peeve given that I have never wanted kids. Overall, this was a very positive experience in contrast to places like Planned Parenthood or providers targeting higher income patients. read more

I've been coming here for 3 years now for all of my GYN services and I'd never switch. Women's Health is the best you can find in women's healthcare. They're a low-income clinic, but this is NOT second-rate care by any means. The offices in both Boulder and Longmont are really nice - modern, clean, comfortable, and certain nurses put cute personal touches in their exam rooms. The skill of the practitioners is also extraordinary-they know their stuff. I had an IUD put in at Women's Health and have experienced ZERO complications. I was nervous because a lot of the risks with IUDs come from botched insertion jobs, but the nurse who did mine told me not to worry, she does them every week. I'd trust an NP who's practiced hundreds of times over a physician in a luxury medicine office who's only done it twice in med school! They do regularly prescribe drugs to treat infections, but they'll also recommend natural remedies and vitamin supplements alongside the antibiotics. And they're a gynecology-only practice, but they do a quick check of all your organs at your exam and they can order blood work for you if anything they feel or anything you tell them about is abnormal. One of the nurses at Women's Health tested and diagnosed me with anemia at a visit awhile ago, even though the symptoms I was experiencing had nothing to do with my reproductive health. I've never been to an office where the staff work so hard to make sure you have a good experience. It seems like the people who work there like their jobs, too - several of the nurse practitioners have been working here for 10+ years, and I see a lot of the same medical assistants each year when I come back for my annual exam. And, despite the name and the all-female staff, they see men too! My uninsured boyfriend went to Women's Health to get the Gardasil HPV vaccine last year, and they helped him apply for a fund that completely covered the cost of the 3 shots. They're one of the best practices in town, OH AND they take Medicaid (which no one else does). 5 stars! read more

Dr. was nice I went for a pap and IUD replacement. She did have some trouble placing the IUD a lot more painful then it was before. She did take her time with our appointment to be sure all my questions were answered and I thought it was a good appointment. The unacceptable part of the experience at this office is my pap was taken and then most likely thrown in the trash. After 2 months of calling for the results and being told someone would return my call (never did & never would have) I asked to speak to a supervisor who told me they did not do a pap but appeared to bill my insurance. I knew the Dr. took the sample she told me as she was doing it. Apparently no one bothered to send it to the lab which I can assume it was thrown away with my old IUD. Another girl called me later and advised the lab lost my sample can I come in and do it again. Lie Lie Lie! I already knew it was never sent to the lab! I said No thank you I will find another reliable clinic & please credit my insurance for the appointment since I now need to go somewhere else to have my vagina/ cervix swabbed again. They still charged my insurance for the wellness check, including the lab they never sent! The billing for the IUD was plenty of money to cover the visit. FYI if you do not specifically ask to see the Dr. your appointment will be with a midwife. How many hours of my life will it take to fight the claim and do the process again? TBD read more

I have been a patient at Boulder Valley Women's Heath Center for years and cannot say enough positive things about my consistently great experiences with BVWHC as my healthcare provider. All of the practitioners and staff that I have ever interacted with are professional, friendly, eager to help and explain, passionate about their work, thoughtful, excellent listeners, very knowledgeable and truly good/nice people. During the entire appointment process the experience feels unified and cohesive. From first calling the clinic to schedule an appointment, the pre-appointment confirmation call, check-in, paperwork, interacting with the clinic assistants, lab/phlebotomist, nurses, physicians and check-out staff my experience is always very pleasant and efficient. I feel encouraged that excellent clinics like BVWHC exist and consistently provide great health care services to a broad population and exist for all people in a non-judgemental way! After going to Planned Parenthood and paying $61 for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea testing, I have to say Boulder Valley Women's Health Center is your best option for getting tested. They offer a sliding scale that meant, since I was paying out of pocket, I got tested for $21. And that included an exam. They just seemed like they cared. Terrible experience. Having lost my regular health insurance I was no longer able to see my gynecologist and ended up at this clinic. Pap smear was done by someone who didn't seem to know what they were doing. I've never had a simple pap hurt so much. Felt like I'd been raped/ violated, really, when it was all done. I was never told I wouldn't see an actual doctor or not even a physicians assistant. I'm not sure the person who examined me was even a nurse. They should inform about this up front. Lots of miscommunication. My original reason for the visit, and I had inquired about this before my appointment, was to get a referral for a breast ultrasound to monitor a lump. My previous doctor ordered an ultrasound a couple of years ago and I was told to keep monitoring it, but lost my insurance. I was told at this clinic during the exam that they would have to discuss it with the medical director, but if I hadn't heard back in a month to call them......a fucking month?!!! Ultimately they refused, after originally saying they would give me a referral when making the appointment. It was as if I was asking for a gold bar...you want adequate health care? Crazy! They didn't even offer a mammogram, even though I have had a suspicious lump for a couple of years. The clinic would not be the ones paying for this ultrasound, by the way, they just needed to request it, like a perscription. It's been over a month and haven't even received the results of the pap smear. Also, and this is my favorite part, The person examining me asked me when my last period was, right after the pelvic exam...I don't have a uterus. If you can't tell there's no uterus then you shouldn't be doing this kind of thing. And then there's that big scar. To top it off it may have been where I contracted the flu. Of course I can't say for sure, but several people in the waiting room obviously had upper respiratory issues, coughing and such. No alcohol hand cleaner around. About 5-6 days later I was sick with what turned out to be influenza. I hope they know how to adequately sterilize instruments and hope I didn't contract anything else while there. They also request a lot of invasive and unnecessary "demographic" information from patients that has nothing to do with the issues of the patients health. They didn't tell me I didn't have to answer any of it until I question it. Hoping, no doubt, that people will just go along. i know this is how they get grant money, but again should be up front. Was a very upsetting, negative experience I wish had never happened. Should have gone to a real doctor. read more

The first time was shocking because, compared to how I have been treated as a patient in the past in various places in Denver, I felt like this place was staffed entirely by angels. I recently had a vasectomy at the clinic, it was great, and the service is incredible from the initial appointment to the day of the surgery. It was quick and without any problem. I have recovered fast and this is the best attention I have received in a clinic especially from the Spanish speaking personnel. Guys this is the place if you need one vasectomy. This place changed my life! I identify as a FTM Trans* person, and I started my hormone therapy at Boulder Valley Women's Health. The process was simple, the environment was affirming, and most of the information you'll need to become a trans* patient is all laid out on a specific page on their website. I recommend this place to any trans* identified person seeking a positive and safe environment to either start or continue there transition experience. This isn't exclusively a women's health care center only... this place includes and affirms all aspects of reproductive health care for all people, and I highly recommend it! read more

I was so disappointed with the care I received at Boulder Valley Women's Health. Although this may be a good, semi-affordable option for women who need STD testing or an annual pap, I absolutely DO NOT recommend coming here if you suspect your issue may be outside of this scope. The lack of professionalism was clear from the phone call during which I made my appointment. I was given two entirely different quotes from two different women, one of whom told me she was pretty certain I had an STD (which it turned out I didn't have). The day of my appointment, I saw Elizabeth, who I believe is a Nurse Practitioner. She had a horrible bed-side manner, and was generally condescending about my concerns. She had no openness or respect for my opinions about my health. She was not open to natural remedies. And in the end, she really didn't find anything out, but I paid $150 for my trouble. A month later, issues still not resolved, I called back. Elizabeth was, again, just horrible. So...I decided to never, ever go back to that place. Maybe it's just her, but I believe that clinic should empower women to connect with their bodies in a positive way, and that sure wasn't my experience. read more

I came here after I was unable to find a gyno who would accept medicare. Dr. Weinberg diagnosed a condition that had stumped other doctors and I was finally able to receive appropriate treatment. I go to this clinic because it is the only place I can afford to go. I had an abortion several years ago and felt like I was being talked down to the whole time. I was talked out of an IUD even though it was what I had researched and wanted (I've had one now for 3 years and love it). Another time, the speculum was left in me while they left the room for close to 10 minutes. I was in so much pain I almost took it out myself. They question most everything I tell them about my symptoms (ie "Are you REALLY in pain or are you just saying you're in pain?"- like I would want to spend another moment being prodded by an OBGYN, if anything I would lie and say I'm not in pain to make you stop poking me). There was one wonderful counselor I had in there, a younger woman. It seems like a lot of the doctors have been there for far too long and it seems like they are tired of dealing with women's "bad decisions" they don't want to hear about what you think is going on with your body, I was given more or less no choices, talked into medicine I said I didnt want again and again (and it was NOT medically necessary, they kept saying "you don't have to take it")- it was still put in my IV. After being disrespected again on the phone today by a doctor while I was trying to make an appointment, I am not sure I will ever go back there. I went to the ER instead. I am sure I will be paying these bills for the next five years, but I had a choice in what happened to me at Foothills. I said no to the pain meds and they listened. I said no to the anti-nausea meds and they listened. They explained to me in full detail exactly what was going on because I told them I am in medical school, instead of telling me to stop self- diagnosing. With the information they gave me I am a lot more at ease even though I am in a bit of a medical predicament, because I know my options and I know what the gray areas are. If you can't afford anything else, of course, get care at this clinic, but don't let them talk down to you. Stick up for yourself, and if they pressure you to do something you don't want to do, or try to talk you out of something you do want, know that you don't have to listen. I know this is true anywhere, but the number of times they have been wrong or done things improperly in there is enough that I say you should go in there somewhat skeptical, and seek a second opinion if something feels off. read more

The Drs and staff are fine, but they make it practically impossible for appointments to be scheduled if you're a working adult. I'm all for being accessible to teens, but the only days that they take appointments more than a day in advance are Mondays and Wednesdays. They are usually booked up and have the worst hours available. Don't you think that women who are actually employed and working deserve access to health care too? Apparently not! read more

This clinic does great things for the community, admittedly, and for that, it deserves credit (thus, the two-star rating); but there are nonetheless some serious issues going on here ...issues that concern the way new patients (or the clinic's "demographic", if you prefer) are treated. Specifically, I am talking about the perplexing audacity of the questions on the new patient form I (partially) filled out in yesterday ("partially" meaning that I skipped items that were both completely offensive & completely out of left field) . "Have you had sex for money, drugs, or shelter in the past six months?" Because, of course, anyone who is "low income" must be both incapable of recognizing they're being typecast (e.g., too ignorant and/or troubled to realize they're being condescended to) & in the kind of dire peril that extends way beyond mere poverty & the absence of "respectable" insurance. I'd like to see what would happen if Boulder's more luxurious and upscale clinics added a dash of this "perfectly standard" line of questioning to their own intake forms....jewels would tremble in the light of their own facets, and "standard" would no doubt quickly be exposed for what "standard" actually is. Furthermore: when I was in the exam room, I was asked (again, out of left field) if I were in an abusive relationship! I understand & completely sympathize with the fact that all of the above are (presumably) issues for SOME of BVWHC's patients, but this is no reason to treat all incoming clients---automatically, as the norm-- in such a manner: I wanted a routine pap smear and annual exam, fercrissakes ... not a psychological profiling that had nothing to do with why I was there. (I notice, unsurprisingly, that I'm not the first person to make these observations: a commenter described a similar experience below). Am I being penalized for being, however temporarily, on Medicaid? Perhaps that's it: such a speculation is really no more or less absurd than the questions I deigned to answer were. Most people wouldn't feel it appropriate to walk up to someone in, say, a supermarket or a coffeeshop and ask them if they were being abused; but apparently such quite basic logic doesn't apply, here. And, truth be told, the way to address very serious & widespread problems like prostitution and domestic abuse is not on a standard intake form, anyway. Far from appearing to be compassionate and "non-judgmental", such questions sound cold, clinical, and statistical when presented in the way they're being presented here. I feel that this jarring, startling (and, yes, unprofessional and even unintentionally callous) approach actually serves to alienate people who might seek to come to this clinic for help. This is not an effective tactic for getting women and girls to "reach out". Though I feel that the actual medical treatment I received was both sound and thorough, I will definitely not be coming back. There are other organizations (like Planned Parenthood) that provide the same services for the community, sans the invasive and inappropriate lines of questioning (and pigeonholing). Stick with those, and with your dignity. And, to Boulder Valley Women's Health: I would respectfully suggest seriously revamping the abovementioned methods, so that you can better do the job you otherwise do so well (as competent medical professionals). There's no reason to ruin a perfectly good intention. read more
