Me and two others stopped in for a late lunch here just yesterday. Typical sports bar setup with multiple tv screens with various channels playing. We were seated quickly and a waitress came over not like after we set down. Their menu is really big, so it took us a bit to finely narrow down our choices. Our food came out very fast. I went with the rib eye tacos with black beans and rice. Really good! Being from Texas I'm a bit snobbish when it comes to Mexican food, but these were better than expected. The old lady got a burger with sweet potato fries. There wasn't any food left on her plate, so I guess it was good! My friend got the pulled pork sandwich with Parmesan fries. He smoked it as well. I'll admit, this is my third time staying next door and first time stopping in because of some previous reviews. It's a nice bar layout and a pretty good draft selection. Beer was cold, tasted fresh. The bartender was really nice, and on top of things. The real issue and downturn is the food. The special was the cheeseburger basket, and they will not flex on changing out the side of fries (which I really didn't want.). To order a build your own, would have been vastly more expensive, so I just caved for the special. Burger was okay, but fries were cold and soggy. Just so-so overall. And I'm knocking them down for inflexibility. The bacon hamburgers are delicious. I had the bacon burger with the smashed tater tots and egg, and substituted the white fried cheese "curds" instead of fries. The food was hot and fresh and delicious. My waitress was friendly and checked on me several times. We stopped at Boulder Tap House on a Saturday evening. It was not very busy, and we were about to find out why. After being seated, we waited ten minutes with no signs that anyone would be serving us. For some reason, they had three employees chatting at the hostess desk but seemed to be very short on servers. The service here at Boulder Tap House in Alexandria is probably the worst in the lakes area, if you have a table of 6+ expect wait times of an hour and a half or more. And when trying to confront the manager on duty about the server flirting with other tables and neglecting others they defend her. Won't be back here again been told from friends that the service has gone down hill wanted to try for ourselves. Plenty of other better restaurants with better food and way better service. Do better. Good service on a Wednesday night after 9:00, limited menu but great beer selection. Elysian space dust and surly abrasive... Also tried the local copper trail Scottish heavy. Very good, should hit the tap room next time. Chips, pico, cheese, fries, and tenders with buffalo sauce for less than $20... Hotel next door, best western...Fairfield opening soon. Soft but grilled bun. Amazing bbq sauce. Maybe the best. Coleslaw gets an A+ and I am FUSSY about me coleslaw. And then our waitress. If you go ask for Kath as she was super. We stopped in to the boulder tap house in Alexandria, MN for lunch, we were seated and waited for about 10 minutes for a waitress to bring us water another table was seated close to us and received water immediately, after waiting another 5 minutes a hostess brought us waters followed shortly by the waitress. The waitress proceeded to ask us in an extremely rude manner if we wanted anything to drink besides water, we let her know we are ready to order to which she angrily replied do you want ANYTHING else to drink besides water! I said I was going to get a malt to which she angrily said ARE YOU GETTING THE CHEESEBURGER FRIES AND MALT? I said no is there a problem? She angrily stated I can get someone else to wait on you, I said that might be a good idea. She left and a couple minutes later a manager came over we explained the same scenario described above to which she replied "the other table has a different server and everyone came all at once. Do you want to order" at this point we were shocked at the extremely rude treatment and chose to visit a restaurant down the street. I am absolutely appalled by the way we were treated at Boulder Tap House in Alexandria, MN. All my previous experiences at Boulder Tap Houses franchises have been wonderful the waitress have been friendly and delightful, the food was fantastic and our table was always clean and attended to. I'm sorry for having to post such a negative review however I can't help but notice I am treated differently from the other guest at this restaurant of late. I get that I am a visitor in a small town, I know I don't fit the demographic, I'm always polite and respectful but I can't ignore the bad service I've received of late. I actually stopped coming to this place a few weeks ago on my own however my boss in ited me for a drink. My last three visits have been unpleasant, I a m ignored, my order is taken last I am made to sit there and watch others not only have there orders taken but be served before I am even asked if I would like something to eat. The server is usually Amelia she is rude and very smug. Her service is slow at times won't even give me silverware or napkins. If I ask her for ranch she sighs, rolls her eyes meanwhile I watch her chop it up with her co-workers and other bar patrons. I'm not sure if it's because I'm from California, a person of color or both but I am uncomfortable eating there and refuse to give them my hard earned money. My boss noticed he was paying a surcharge on his order for a debit card however it was rung in as a credit card however upon review he spoke up and had the charge reversed. Well that opened up a can of worms with me and I checked my receipts from last visits and noticed I too have paid this surcharge as well. I don't know precisely how many times but it feels like someone is trying to pull a fast over us. That's not a comfortable feeling. I spoke with a manager she was polite about it and gave me an explanation suggesting that the give the patrons the opportunity to dispute that but I'm not buying it. My next conversation about this topic will be to my attorney because I feel discriminated against, I know how small towns work I have been traveling the United States for business for years. Stopped in Alex to grab a bite to eat on our way to the cities for The Rolling Stones concert! This place was clean, staff was friendly and food was good! I was with a group of 3 - we got pulled pork tacos, fish tacos and the spinach & artichoke chicken burger with parmesan fries - we all ate everything as it was DELICIOUS! We came in 10 minutes before they were closing- they sat us cheerfully and gave great service. Our waiter was Tom and he deserves his "employee of the month " title. The food was good. The service was a joke. Beyond a joke. It was like they were pissed we came in. Maybe it was the number of kids (4) we had? Maybe it was the fact it was a Thursday night? We're not from Alex, and were passing through. BTH is very convenient to the highway, but if you're willing to drive a bit more into town, there might be better places to try. The overall theme and vibe, I would say is similar to BWW's: lots of TVs (indoors), lots of beer, wings, burgers, apps. We sat outside on the patio (due to covid), but appeared plenty of people were sitting inside. The outstanding: our server. She was extraordinarily polite, and apologetic for any delays. The great: the cheese curds are special, if you like lots of cheese that is. I enjoyed them. The good: we both thought the fries were good, though by the time our food came out they were only "warm". The bad: took relatively long for our food to come out (for which our server apologized), and the burgers weren't very good. Thin and overdone. They did not give an option for how we preferred them cooked. I like my burger medium, and these were definitely medium well. They appeared like those stack of burgers you can buy at Costco. The ugly: oh my goodness ... the flies on the patio. Someone should be embarrassed. I've never experienced that, at any restaurant. Our server also apologized for this, making the comment that "there's nothing we can do!". No, you can't mind control the flies to leave, that is is true. But maybe if you kept the patio reasonably clean, not with food all over the floor, that might help. There were at least 7-10 flies at our table. We saw other tables swatting the air as well. For Alexandria, this place is pretty good. I had the steak fajita wrap and it was delicious. Another person at my table had the boneless wings. I was able to try one and didn't think it was any good. Very chewy and dry chicken. I'm partial to bone-in wings myself. If I'm in the area or driving down 94, this would be second on my list behind D. That took a looooooooong time. I usually eat at the bar when I travel. Quick and good service almost always. Not here. Waited well over 10 minutes to get a food order in. The only time I got fast service was when someone else brought my app and entree out at the same time. When I was done, someone else offered to bus the table since the bartender wasn't going to. Customer service needs work- last time I dined here for lunch with a friend, we both had a small bill of $12 & some change. We both handed the server a $20 bill & politely asked for change. The server didn't come back until we asked two additional times for the change. When she did return, she obviously wasn't pleased as she slammed our change down on our table & walked away with the same scowl she had on her face when she took our order. The food might have been good, but I think we got it about 15 minutes after it was done. So, it was dried out and luke warm. But, it was still way, way better than the service. Service was almost non existent. More than 15 minutes went by with our food done and baskets stacked with no sight of our waitress except when she walked by and did the "no look". Today watching hockey I ordered wings bone in with jack daniels sauce After eating all the bones sat in front of me for 20 minuets till someone bused them away People coming and going and the bar was never wiped down. Our son has been craving a good burger. If I had not gone because of other reviews, we would have missed out. Logan LOVED his burger. So he is only 11. Eleven year olds can be picky. He ordered the cheese curd burger. We will be ordering a full order of cheese curds next time. They have cheddar cheese and great flavor. I don't eat much fried food but I think I could handle two of these. He loved the sauce on his burger which the server told me about. He loved the fries and I have to agree. I ordered a cup of their black bean chili. Not too spicy, not too sweet and lots of good veggies. Our server was very nice. We will be going back. I ordered the chicken wings with dry ranch seasoning rub. They were over cooked and the rub was poured on after they were cooked. They were so salty I had to scrape the seasoning off and dip them in a sauce just to be able to eat them. I let the wait staff know how bad they were. The waitress offered a discount which I thought was fair but she came back and I was asked if I ate them and was told because I confirmed I did thier response was they couldn't do anything about the price. If they had looked at the napkin they would have seen all the skin and scrapings I took off just to eat them. I am now at home with a stomachache from those wings.
