All these were delicious - and they heated up the cheese pastry for me, which was a perfect more savory but very slightly sweet start to this decadent meal. I do my best to order and communicate in French, and I appreciated that the lady helping me spoke back to me in French as well, and was patient with my poor language skills. I was extremely surprised and very appreciative that she actually gifted me an extra slice of tart aux pommes!! I didn't expect that and I felt very welcomed by such a exchange. I ended bringing that slice all the way home to NYC with me where I shared it with my partner. He usually doesn't like sweets like this, but said this one was a really good balance of sweet and tart. Merci beaucoup, mes amis de La Vieille France ! Vos pâtisseries ont été dégustées outre-mer.

It did get longer as we ate our pastries closer to 9:30am. The pastries are all displayed out, with nothing really covering them. There were a TON of bees swarming the bakery and the baked goods, which was a little unsettling. We got one croissant and one escargot praline. The croissant looked very unique, not like your typical croissant cone shape. It was the first of our many croissants so I used this as a baseline. Definitely buttery but a bit too crispy for me. I like some flakiness but also some soft interior for my croissants. The escargot praline was good but tasted a bit old in my opinion. After our trip ended, there were other spots I definitely would rank higher than Du Pain et des Idees, and would rather go to those if I ever visited Paris again.

It gets a cheaper rating but I thought the prices were very comparable to the other boulangeries in the neighborhood.Again they had great croissants (I tried them at every boulangerie we visited) and their large macaron "sandwiches" were also delicious (although not my MOST favorite of the ones we tried in Paris). This place was also just a few steps from our apartment so we visited it a lot as well. None of the women that served us during the week spoke English but again, you don't need much in a boulangerie. The service was always friendly and efficient. Often this place was busy but service was quick. No outdoor seating, and they were open until 8pm which was awesome. Later in the day you'll find that pastries and bread are not as fresh but even though we got macaron "sandwiches" at 7pm and they seemed a little damp from the fresh fruit in them, the taste was delicious. The outer shells of the macarons were slightly tough but the overall texture wasn't bad. the berries (we tried frambriose and fraise, or raspberry and strawberry) were incredibly fresh and tasty. I'm sure if we had purchased them earlier in the day they would have been even better. We also had the coffee eclairs and they were amazing!!! I don't care that much for eclairs as I do no like the type of bread used for them, but these were good enough that I'd get them again. The filling was rich and the coffee taste was outstanding.

The lady working at the cashier at the time spoke minimal English but was super easy to order, and she was super patient while we were looking at all the options. All options are very visually pleasing and definitely on the cheaper end! We got the eclair and a baguette sandwich. The eclair had a decadent chocolate glaze and sweet/rich cream on the interior - very airy and a great bite. The baguette used in the sandwich was moist and chewy, definitely elevating a sandwich with relatively simple ingredients. All ingredients were fresh, and it was an above satisfactory sandwich. Great neighborhood bakery to stop by if you're in Vincennes :)
