Andrea and her team had every detail worked out, so I could just relax and go with it. I visited Andrea again to review the photos to choose my favorites. There were too many and I ended up making the book bigger to solve that "problem." The end product is two books (boudoir + fine art) full of beautiful, professional photos. I brought four outfits from home, but ended up borrowing from the studio one amazing piece. Along with shoes and jewelry this studio was stocked. Christina the owner and photographer was so talented. I never felt rushed. She did not seem like she was in a hurry. She made sure I was positioned to be the most flattering and would help me adjust things as needed. Once my session was over, she explained to me the process for getting my album. She gave me options for the cover and let me choose the photos I wanted in the album. Along with that came a flash drive with all of my photos taken on the day. Within two weeks my album arrived at my door and it is beautiful. (The last time I felt a need to do something similar, I got a tattoo). However, this time I wanted to celebrate the moment in an entirely different way. At first I thought, boudoir photos? Hmmm....a little tacky, full of boa feathers and cheesy poses, right? But the Daily Candy blurb was compelling enough for me to look at Lolo's website and I liked what I found. As another reviewer has written: sensual, timeless, natural, coquettish and most importantly, classy while revealing the true essence of the subject (or so it seemed). I knew instantly that this was what I wanted, and arranged an initial consultation to explore the idea further. As soon as I met Lolo and saw her studio, I knew I would follow through. She has lots of fun settings and props and costumes. And you can shoot in her studio or in her barn (yes, imagine me, being photographed in a barn!) However, I was like a little girl playing dress up, and it was such fun! And you can even bring your own items from home....from jewelry to lingerie to your favorite dresses and shoes.....as much or as little as you want. I have a vintage 60's ballgown (think Breakfast at Tiffany's) which I have always wanted to be photographed in, in really fun, whimsical poses. As you can probably imagine, my shoot was an absolute blast (albeit a tad cold in the barn). And I loved the champagne, chocolates and ginger biscuits that helped sustain me throughout the 5 hour shoot. :-) Lolo is a great photographer to work with and I can't wait to see my pics! Update 3/8/07: I absolutely LOVE my photos. They turned out even better than I could possibly imagine. Lolo is an exquisite photographer, and captured me in my many moods. Instead of just laying out "here's how it works, here's what you get for this price," etc., he asked a lot about what I was looking for, what I hoped to get out of it, my motivations or inspirations, etc. That personal touch carried throughout the experience. He consistently made an effort to understand what I was looking for--from the planning process to the photo shoot to going through the photos afterward--to make sure that I got exactly what I was hoping for. The photos themselves are absolutely awesome. It's incredible the different looks and feels he creates in a relatively small studio. From the beginning, Lisa was so amazing. She responded promptly to my inquiries via email and was able to schedule a session based off of my work schedule. She followed up with me before the session, making sure to answer any and all of my questions and also providing me with some ideas. They did my hair and makeup amazing and it was really nice getting to talk with Lisa and getting to know each other before starting the session. During the session, she made me feel like a model. Although there was a little confusion about the start time (and checking my contract, the date was mentioned, but the time wasn't specified), I was relieved to find that she was able to accomodate me, although I arrived late that day. Hair and make-up was done in keeping with my preference for minimal variation from my normal, no frills look. I also specified that I was hoping to avoid retouching of my skin coloration and imperfections, as I want images that document my age, rather than disguising them. She was quite open to me bringing my own wardrobe items and there was a dress I've always wanted to get photographs in, since it was a gift and I've never gotten full-length images of me wearing it, despite owning it for a number of years now. I was also curious about trying full nudes and had been hesitant to embark on such work with larger studios, but knowing it was going to be just Karen and me in the room for the photo shoot, I was brave enough to try those poses as well. Everything was done quite tastefully, she ensured I was comfortable and directed throughout the experience and the results speak for themselves. For obvious reasons, I'm only including the fully dressed images, but all of the pictures I've received are beautiful. There's about a week between the photo shoot and the date that you need to return to view your photos, so I made two visits to town, which certainly wasn't an inconvenience, since I only live about 20 minutes away, but worth knowing for those considering a longer drive.
