They have eliminated case discounts on beer. They actually told me that the price differEnce between four 6 packs and one case will enable them to NOT have to increase the prices of cheaper beer when said cheaper beer has a price increase. CHUTZPAH! To raise the prices on the better beers now (with no price increase from distributors to them) so that future increases on the cheaper beers do not result in Bud or Coors drinkers having to pay more. Asinine logic, even worse business theory and insulting that they are okay with us knowing that. Socialism on crack.The one in Mansfield has the best prices around here but higher than in areas closer to NY. So if Coors raises their price won't the other stores raise their price of Coors? After stumbling into my first ever Bottle King location, I won't ever be able to go to a bodega type liquor store ever again! This place was huge and extremely well organized. Whether you're looking to buy a 24 pack of something basic like bud light or looking to try something funky, this store has it all. They even have sculpin grapefruit which I've always had a hard time finding! And cheap! If you sig up for their perks which is pretty much their version of a shoprite card, you get to access specialty prices which are beyond cheap! I'm a big fan of Bottle King-they simply always have great deals on great wines and they have an excellent beer selection. I believe the wine selection at the Rt. 10 location is better, or maybe it's that they are a bit more knowledeable over there, but this location is also pretty good. Who cares if this location isn't my favorite, it still has a very good selection. So I came here because my sister and her friends were craving some alcohol hahah and it was on the way home from shopping. I was amazed at the selection that they have here (I was even able to find the famous Rose Angry Orchard beer that came out a couple of weeks before) and how cheap everything was. The staff is super friendly and nice which is a plus and the place is never too busy so you can just stop in and go. Bottle King is my preferred destination for booze and beer and wine. I go out of my way to visit one of these locations: Livingston, Wayne (Route 23 N), Ramsey (Rt 17 N), or Hillsdale (the smallest, and mins off GSP, Exit 168). I am reviewing Livingston because its selection, both brands and sizes, is the best among these stores in Bourbon and Irish Whiskey. My bourbon cabinet is mostly stocked full from the Bottle King. And Livingston store even had 8-year Green Spot Irish Whiskey--a true test of Whiskey selection. Hope to see Yellow Spot soon. I live in Westchester County and often stop in en route home from Newark Airport. I smile when I pay the NJ Taxman instead of the NY Robber Barons...I mean taxman. Staff is helpful and friendly. Tip: Sign up for BK Discount Club card--a genuine discount program. And they will look up your Discount ID if you are not carrying it on you. Hands down the best liquor store in the area. Prices are unbeatable and the constantly have sales on tons of items. The wine and beer selection is insane as is their liquor selection. The sake selection could stand to be beefed up a little but there is definitely a better selection that most places by far. Service is always helpful and friendly. Bottle King is the best liquor, wine, and beer store hands down. They have many locations in New Jersey and I figured I would review this one since it is the one I've been to most often. Some highlights: -Variety: They have an incredible selection of wine and beer plus the hard stuff. Tons of local beers including brews from my favorite NJ brewery RIver Horse, the NJ Brewing Company, and one of my favorite NY breweries, Blue Point. They also have tons of stuff from around the country. Stone IPA from San Diego makes me feel like I'm back in CA (did not expect to find that in NJ but glad they are expanding) and Purple Haze by Abita from New Orleans is a nice easy drinking beer that isn't that available. Lots of wine and hard liquor too. They pretty much have everything I have ever wanted and lots I didn't expect to find. -Prices: The prices are great. Overall, the prices are a lot less than other liquor stores. Packs of beer and wine are like $2 minimum less than most places and some are as much as $5-8 less. The prices on vodka, whiskey, and other stuff are also really good. I have occasionally found certain products cheaper at other stores but overall, BK has the best prices. -Food: One of my favorite things about Bottle King stores is that they have a nice variety of cheese, chocolate, cookies, crackers, and other things to accompany your purchases. So many liquor stores don't sell this stuff or just have chips and some random candy. I really like that Bottle King carries meat, cheese, and other things that pair nicely with alcohol. There aren't a lot of employees circulating the store so it is best to come prepared. Know what you want to buy and just find it. Not a ton of help if you need a recommendation but the products are all pretty well labeled so that is helpful. Overall, I love Bottle King and this location is no exception. read more

This is a huge store with a diverse set of wines, beers, and hard liquor, unfortunately this is where the positives end. Prices are not consistently and clearly marked for all wines, especially in the front. You better know what you want and keep your eyes peeled as to where to find everything; when I asked where I can find the White Claw Hard Seltzer, I was repeatedly ignored. A few of the cashiers are inattentive and won't let you know that they are closing, leaving a long line at the one open one. Perhaps the owner should look into self-check out? Overall, don't expect any customer service in this store, which is a shame as this is a huge location. read more

Almost a brand new location. I've visited several times and seems that their selection of cognacs and Scotch's is what I like most. This is the mecca of liquor stores. If this place doesn't have what you need it's either not in season or you probably don't need it. I cant think of that many places that can rival their selection. The store is massive. They also have glassware a tasting area, and a classroom so if you need any of these specialty things it might be a good place to stop. read more

So let me preface this by saying I've been here a bunch of times. Their selection of craft beers is pretty decent, so we come here for that. Or to grab a quick bottle of wine or whiskey... Yesterday we came in to look for a specific bottle of beer, granted it is very rare that you can find it in a store as it sells out very fast but we figured we would try... Well we encountered the biggest prick in the history of the world, which is the reason for this terrible review. So a guy who works there is walking by us stocking some beers in the fridge, my husband says "hi how are you?" Like looking for the guy to ask him if we needed help. The guy answers, "SUP." Not a question like "hey what's up can I help you?" But a final "SUP", like "leave me the fuck alone." Well my husband asks him, in a nice and friendly manner, if they by any chance might have his specific beer in stock, to which the employee responds in a nasty, angry tone, "HA, hilarious. Good luck buddy!" As he was briskly walked away. Wow...ok then. We had about $80 worth of beer and wine in our hand ready to purchase but after this convo with this miserable person we promptly left the shit we were going to buy in the middle of the store and walked out of there. I've never been treated like this from An employee at a place of business and with such a fucking attitude for asking a fucking question. I will literally never step foot in this place again. I'll keep my business at Total Wines in west orange which has better service and a much better selection of alcohol anyway. read more

Your going to love this one. I send my friend in the store to pick up a few things (beer wine cigarettes). He comes out and tells me that i have to go in because he left his wallet and Id at home. Now hes 27 and look young so I get that but we go on there all the time and my friend definitely recognized the cashier. So now I'm upset that I have to now go in Pay for the items. I get to the register and she tells me that I can't buy it because my friend didn't have id. Well that's absurd. I asked to speak to the manger, the manger looks over at me across the store doesn't pay me any attention and tells her the Same thing the cashier just told me (I'm assuming). As a Duchess, I enjoy visiting the Patron and the Bottle King. But seriously, the selection here is stellar. If you can't find what you're looking for here, you won't be able to find it anyway. Honestly, the selection is vast. Bottle King carries various limited editions or special editions of certain brands. Also, if you're into cigars, they have those too. There are always tons of workers walking around asking if you need help finding things. The beer selection is pretty good and they have a nice selection of seasonal brews. This is my Go-to place for beer and wine. It's location on R-10 is very convenience as close to Costco and Home Depot. You can find large number of options, especially in wine. under$20 and good quality. The discount is huge for BK members, sometimes over 50%. This relates exclusively to their craft beer selection after they moved to the new store. As anyone reading liquor store reviews knows, craft beer sales are escalating everywhere lately. This Bottle King is stuck at least a decade behind its competitors, including other Bottle Kings. I used to swear by this place, but no longer. Their selection has become fairly limited. Moreover, when limited releases come out, I am far more likely to get access to those at Total Wine in West Orange, Liquor Outlet in Boonton, or even the Bottle King in Morris Plains than I am here. I don't even try anymore. It's possible that they keep these releases for top customers, friends or employees only, but not your average guy. They also don't sell single bottles, which is a huge competitive disadvantage. Hopefully things change. read more

Nice selection of reasonably prices beer, wine and spirits. They even have a decent selection of party foods and snacks, such as cheeses, pretzels, cured meats, etc. They don't quite have the price point or selection of Total Wine in West Orange, and their "club" is a little bit of a turn-off for the occasional liquor store shopper. All in all, it's a major step up in price and selection over the other local liquor stores, and it's worth a bit of a drive if you live in a neighboring town without such an option. The check out lines tend to get a little backed up at peak times, but they do a good job of staffing additional registers during such occasions. There is absolutely zero decor. It is a liquor warehouse and does not need to be or pretend to be more. One thing that would be nice is if they sold a few more of there craft beers by single bottle and offered some kind of mix and match or 6 pack incentive. Always nice to try a new beer without having to commit to a mass quantity. read more

Very good selection. Very competitive prices. Only reason for 4 stars not 5 is because some employees are not as knowledgeable as you might hope. I may be petty but two employees did not know where vermouth and bitters were and might not have known what bitters are. I know there are a thousand liquor store items to know and there was an employee in the store who knew the items. I mention only because it bothered me a little at the time. I want to give Zero Stars!!! Between Thanksgiving and Christmas I have spent over $600 in buying wine as gifts from Bottle King in Livingston. I have been buying every year from this store. I went in today to buy wine and asked for gift bag. They did not have any and was forced to buy a gift bag, which is fine. Then I spoke to the manager and he gives me an attitude. He said "We don't have to give you gift bags, and you don't have to buy alcohol, you chose to buy alcohol". I was okay until he made me buy the gift bag. What ticked me off was his comment that I don't have to buy alcohol, I choose to buy. Yes I choose to buy alcohol with my money and I don't need to be disrespected by some jerk. Therefore going forward I choose not to buy from Bottle King. They are not the only game in town!!!! read more

I ordered a bottle of Angel's Envy bourbon today and they called to say it was ready for curbside pickup. I drove a half hour to Livingston from Randolph and parked in the designated area for curbside. An atttidutey young man came up to the car, took the order number and disappeared. 6 other cars came and went, and 20 minutes later they still hadn't brought the order. Four other people who worked there kept asking if we'd been helped. None of them helped us. Finally, the original guy came out and said, the order was misplaced and it was the last bottle of Angel's Envy and would I like a refund or to chose another whiskey. Now Angel's Envy is a special item. It's $50 and I was looking forward to it as a kind of treat from this whole Coronavirus fiasco. I simply stated that I didn't want another brand. In 30 seconds after he lied to me, the bottle appeared in someone else's hands from the store and he handed it to my wife, banging the bottle on the car window in the process. This guy was unconscionably rude and nasty and the whole experience really was horrible. I will never shop there again. I wish as, always that there was a no star rating. read more

Shopped here on a Saturday afternoon. Needed advise in making a wine selection. Could not find any staff around to assist me. Finally got someone to help me after almost 20 minutes. I was told the store was low staffed this day. This person knew nothing about wines. He called over another person who didn't know any more about wines than he did. Should have known better, came back on Sunday to make another purchase, had similar experience. I finally made a selection but all the bottles in this bin had brown sticky gook on them.
