When in Almancil on the N125, don't miss this terrific bistro and salumeria. It is as authentic as anything you will find in Naples.
Our friend who was the long time dean at the French Culinary Institute in NYC (and of Italian heritage) took us here for lunch one day. We are hooked!
For starters, if you want whole bean, Italian espresso beans, it's in there. Bufala mozzarella, in there. Scratch made cannoli shells, filled to order with the most delectable cream and pistachios, in there.
The pasta is fresh made daily and the saucing, whether carbonara, amatriciana, bolognese and so forth, made fresh to order with authentic Italian ingredients - coming right up.
The supply of fine Italian wine is unbeatable, a rare find in a country known for its excellent local wine.
The staff speaks mostly Italian and Portuguese - so bone up if you want to get the "at home" treatment. They do English well too and are painfully polite!
Oh .. and the guanciale is banging, as authentic as it comes - so you can make that authentic carbonara at home anytime. They carry a wide variety of Italian dried pasta too.
Service is professional and prompt. These owners are accommodating. They even ordered several kilos of Barbera coffee beans for me direct from Italy, based on a telephone request, and texted me when it was in. No up charge.
Highly recommended when you are in town. Five stars all day long.
Top tip: Reservations recommended! It is charming to dine indoors, but out on the patio is special, even if the weather is not the best. They have tables on the patio set under large umbrellas with serious heaters, and seat cushions for comfort.
Don't miss Bottega E Cucina when in town, even if only for a cannoli and an espresso. Or you can hop on a flight to Naples for the exact same quality and treatment. read more
