We visited many places including the big ones like Bright Horizons, and when we walked into Tender Care, I knew it was the right place for us! With a tiny little baby I was more concerned about the "nurturing" and not the "learning" at that point (which is funny because my baby has learned SO much at Tender Care - in fact she's always doing things well ahead of her timeline). The husband and wife team was sweet and kind, patient with our baby, sent pictures throughout the day, called me to let me know she was doing well and napping at the right times, etc. everything i could have asked for. Now my 15 month old is a running, crazy, but fun little thing with LOTS of energy, and she just LOVES going to daycare. She squeals all the way up the driveway in delight and waves at her daycare teacher through the window every morning (sometimes cries when we have to leave!)! They have outside time each day, especially in the Summer, which I love, and their gate locks closed during the day to keep their house safe and secure. They are across the street from an elementary school and situated back off the street, so it is an ideal home daycare placement. It's a smaller daycare so she only takes about 3 or so kids at a time (based on ages) and only will have 1 infant that cannot walk at a time, to ensure she is able to provide the attention she needs to, with each child. She gives about a 2 week trial period in the beginning to be sure it's the right childcare placement for the child, which I appreciate because not all daycares will work for every baby. She is a former teacher and has over 20+ years of experience in the daycare setting, so she knows that sometimes daycare can be trial and error and it has to be right for everyone involved. (side note - one of the reasons i LOVED my visit there when we were getting more information is because she still has pictures of all of her kids from the past that ALL stayed until preschool unless they moved, AND she still gets Holiday cards of them, many being high school students now. :) I would recommend this daycare to anyone who wants a comfortable and loving place for their babies to grow, learn, and stay during the days! We have loved every second and are dreading the day we have to take our daughter out for preschool! We'll probably have to stop by often to say hi!

Recently, the opportunity to work a few extra hours during the week came up, and as it is Christmas, a lot of my mom friends (who would normally watch kiddo) are traveling, entertaining family, etc. In comes Whirlwinds. We attended a party at the UVillage location, and were thrilled with the toys and idea of a drop-off daycare center. Their max is 4 hours, which is a little tough, but it works for most situations. Also, it is CHEAP at $8 an hour. These girls are AWESOME! The one on staff this morning (Kylene?) was friendly, professional, and best of all, immediately made efforts to warm my wary-of-new-adults little guy. She also went with his pace, rather than just getting in his face and yapping and make him uncomfortable. This facility is large and has a lot of different kinds of toys to entice kids of all ages. It has a fenced off play area, a lunch area, and a clean and easy to access bathroom. I was ten minutes late to pick my son up, and even after being ten minutes early to drop him off, the staff was still very accommodating and kind. If the need arises, I will definitely be using their services again.

There's also someone who does the setup and cleanup. You just show up, kids have a good time, then you go home. What's not to like? Plus there was almost no fighting over toys - and this is with 15+ toddlers. I attribute to the fact that we weren't in anyone's "house" (less possessiveness if the toy isn't "owned" by one of the kids). We did bring a little bagels & coffee for the adults, and put it in the nice gated entry area to keep it away from the kids. I will totally plan to do a party (20 kids is the max) here again - easily good for any kids under 6, and the staff was wonderful to deal with. Again, I've never used this for drop-in day care (our kid is in pre-school full time), which is their main business during the week. I'm sure that would be great, as it's the same space, toys, and so on.

My son made it a total of 10 days at Tara's Daycare. We were up front of some behavioral issues that he experiences as he has a diagnosis of Anxiety and ADHD, in which she stated that she could handle. Unfortunately she was not equipped to do so. We had started a new medication for him (first time medicating him) and there were several off handed comments on "bad days" that were made such as: "did you medicate him this morning?". She clearly did not understand his disorders. I was called numerous times in the middle of the day to pick him up, which I would. I could hear him in the background breaking. I was told they kept him from the other children for their "safety". I am understanding of her responsibility to protect her other students, but she was not experienced in working with more challenging children. She shouldn't have stated that she had any such experience. She even told me that she had never met a child like my son in the X amount of time she has worked in the field (real nice!) She would talk about my son's emotional outburst in front of him to the point that it was taking a toll on him. The last day we were there I got a call from her with a voicemail saying I needed to come now, when I got there my son was sitting there broken, crying. She started in with raising her voice and telling me how horrible my son is. I picked him up and rocked him telling him everything was going to be okay. I told her it was clear that this was not a good fit and we never went back. When I got into the car I told my son he never had to go back there again. My son still talks about her as "mean teacher". He typically likes just about anyone. I warn you to not take your children here. There were several times I walked in and her voice was raised loud enough to make me uncomfortable with how she spoke to other children. She does not talk to children with respect, if they are in the least bit misbehaving. Additionally she had several people helping her in the 10 days we were there. 2 of which i was never introduced to, nor was I told prior that other adults that did not include herself, or her assistant would be watching my child.

There is little to no communication from the school to parents on how to get started or what the…read morekids actually do - parents are left to hang and figure things out themselves. Day-1 I did not even know where to put the water bottle and lunch box. There is no play ground access at all - kids go out in an area of concrete ground to play with some balls and hula hoops. They did not even bother to even use chalk and draw up some hopscotches for the kids. This is a huge minus. The teachers are nice (hence 2 stars not 1) but the organization and management of the school is done based on last century's style. The curriculum does not change weekly, but monthly. How do kids not get bored listening to the same topic every day for a whole month?!! Toys are very old and outdated. The art and craft is the bare minimum. There is good reading activities it seems. I do not know about the standard teacher preschool kids ratio but the staff complains a lot about understaffed, and collectively they are prone to push kids behavior issues (where kids are just being kids) to parents who are out of the classroom to figure out.
