I brought my 10 year old springer spaniel in crisis to this clinic on a Saturday. I was quoted a price of $900 and when I checked out it was $1200. I was given antibiotics for $130 that was impossible to give to him unless I held him like a baby and tried to pry his mouth open. The vet didn't know how to take his temperature. There was feces all over his rear. I asked for a different antibiotic and they refused to help any further. read more

Yesterday my Cavalier King Charles, was in need of seeing a vet. He was whimpering and I was concerned that there was something very wrong. I originally called his surgeon as last year he had some Patellar work done, but they were rude and difficult and very un-empathetic. I called is usual vet which is Bothell Pet Hospital and they were not only understanding and helpful, but they got him in within 90 minutes of when I called. We saw the vet, I was able to confirm that structurally he was good and this looked like a muscle pull. We got some anti-inflammatory and he already feels better today. I've been coming to Bothell Pet Hospital for 8+ years. I recently called and asked for a refill of my dogs ear infection medication, and they refused to refill it or even give me the name of the medication without having an exam. I told them super money was tight and begged them to just give me the name of the medication and they wouldn'tjj. I took her in and they charged me $80 for an exam, $50 just to clean her ears and $100 for ear medication that cost $15 on chewy! They greedily charged me $250, instead of informing me of the name of the $15 medication! I called and complained and was told I would receive a call back from the manager. I never received a call, so I wrote them an email. A week later and I never received an email response or call back. They don't have the courtesy to contact back a long term costumer who has spent over 10k at their business! Ridiculous! This place lacks professionalism and will charge you for medication 6x the price of what you can find online! They will not inform you of any other charges during your pets exam, like cleaning of their ears. I will be transferring all of my dogs paperwork and history to another place. read more

We switched to Bothell pet hospital from Lynnwood Helping Hands about 6 months ago through a friend's referral. We are very graceful. Our beloved Golden was 16, and was on the last leg of her life. Dr. Harmor is wonderful. She is very professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate. When we called the hospital with concerns, she always returned our call before the end of the day, which our old vet did not do. Last week, we decided together with Dr. Hamor, that it was time to let our sweet girl go. She was again great with helping us through the process all the way to the last breath of our sweet girl. We have used the services of Bothell Pet Hospital since moving to Washington in 2021. Every vet we have encountered with our two dogs (one older with declining health) has been helpful, competent, and demonstrated sincere compassion. Treatment options have always been clearly explained with costs detailed when I asked for specifics. I never felt pressured if I asked about prioritizing or delaying or declining services. I always felt respected when involved in determining the best plan of action. We also understand that the staffing shortages occurring across the country have affected veterinary services like most other businesses. I've noticed that Bothell Pet Hospital has been increasing their staffing to accommodate emergency appointments. There has been a significant improvement in the past months. My husband and I have been dog owners since 1979 and our dogs have seen many vets over the years. We moved to the area in 2004 and have taken all our animals (5 dogs and 1 cat over the years) to Bothell Pet Hospital. They are wonderful - they truly care about animals and put the pets' well-being first. They are efficient, down-to-earth and easy to deal with. I love visiting, even if my dog doesn't, LOL. The medical team is very good about discussing issues with the family, and when it comes time to say goodbye, they are very caring and compassionate. Our particular favorite is Dr. Kovar because she's great with our big, dopey dogs, but every person there that we've dealt with has been awesome. We just adopted a dog, and were excited to find such a highly-rated clinic close to us. After going in for our first visit, we'll be finding a different hospital for our pet. There are probably some good vets here, but our experience personally left us feeling uncomfortable and unwilling to entrust our dog in their care. Among other things, our vet said to our dog (a rescue from Korea): "I hope you know how lucky you are to have landed in the U.S.A. instead of becoming a dinner plate dog." When his paperwork indicated that he had not yet been tested for worms, she said "Well, we'll have to do that because they DEFINITELY have a lot of that in Korea" and laughed. There were a few more comments like that. The main purpose of our visit was to do a meet-and-greet for a new young dog that was scared and going through a lot of change -- and hopefully forge a really great relationship with our vet. But she did not seem interested in our dog's care and the staff was abrasive. read more

So far, so good. I had to find a new vet, near my home for my new puppy. I decided on Bothell Pet Hospital since they're near by and received so many good reviews. I made an appointment for my 5 month old pup to get her second round of shots. Upon walking in, everyone was welcoming and very attentive. The first thing I noticed, was how the waiting room was segregated from the clients whom are exiting. GENIUS!!! Such a small thing, but oh-so-important! They took me back to my room. Kind of old school. Nothing fancy. But clean. The vet was very nice and personable. She was sympathetic to the loss of my last dog. That's the kind of vet I want. We talked about pet insurance, which they accept... but they do not offer any in-house options. But when we were checking out, I think for the first visit and the shots it was under $80. I have really a horrible experience. The hospital manager called to yell and scream at me today after I took my sick cat to the hospital who kept vomiting and having diarrhea a few days ago after coming back from cat boarding, my cat didn't get better but worse after the visit! I thought it might be because of his diabetes but not sure, I talked every about the situation. During the visit, my cat stayed at the hospital from 8am to 4pm, a whole day, by the end of the day they told they couldn't complete glucose curve check because my cat was vomiting and having diarrhea. They only prescribed a paste to use at home, My cat didn't get better after the visit and he vomited with blood the day after the visit. He didn't eat at all and laid down all the time. I asked this hospital for medical records, they didn't send to me, so I called this hospital for an emergency, but they didn't consider it's an emergency and didn't send the medical records out either! After I took a cat to the hospital, the vets there didn't give a shit to my cat, no one took a look at him until I had waited for while and asked again, the assistant said she was sure she had already sent me the medical records before, she LIED, because we didn't receive anything and she couldn't provide any proof. This totally broke our trust. After the Dr finally came, we talked about the situation to her, but she just got furious and questioned us "what are you talking about?" and argued with us instead of checking my cat!! We are so disappointed about the attitudes and the actions the hospital took when knowing an animal is in a bad situation. The hospital said my cat needed to do ultrasound to further check but it takes TWO days to get the results!! We asked if she could refer to other urgent/emergency care! BUT the Dr said she CANNOT refer to other urgent care!! We couldn't wait because my cat was very vulnerable at that time, so we took the cat to other urgent care ourselves, the doctor of urgent care said my cat was VERY sick, my cat got better after half day of fluid treatment in urgent care, and he needed to be transferred to emergency care for 24 hrs hospitalization and treatment. My cat stayed in emergency center for another 2.5 days. Now he is better and at home. It cost us over $5000 to get my cat health stable. But it's fine because we got through it. HOWEVER, the manager of Bothell Pet Hospital called to yell and scream at me, saying giving me a chance to explain!!! And he asked me about my email to send medical records to me and let me not visit again, my god, the manager even couldn't find my email from the hospital, but he got my number!! The hospital manager just heard about something from its staff because he was even NOT in the hospital during our visit!! The manager's call to yell was super ridiculous! Don't let your pet go there otherwise you could get intimidated as well. And prepare to call 911. read more

It fills me with sadness to write this review. Up until the last year I was a super fan of Bothell Pet Hospital, telling all that would hear about the excellent care our animals had always received. I hesitated to write a review until our latest experience. All our animals are becoming older, requiring more trips to the vet. Each experience within the last year made me question if we were at the right vet clinic for us. The event that started our quest to find another vet Our older boxer had been diagnosed with 3 tumors. Each in an area that biopsy could not be done and surgical removal was either very invasive or couldn't be done. We knew our time with him was limited and like any pet owner would want, we wanted his time to be enjoyable and pain-free. We discussed on several occasions that we thought he was in pain but to us, it didn't seem like we were taken seriously. Thus, we moved him to another vet, unfortunately he only had another month with us but he was so much happier and more comfortable that last month. Next Our younger boxer was grieving the loss of her bonded mate. We could not get an appointment to see the vet for ideas to help her through this process for weeks. This is when we made the move to another vet. The final straw leading to this review Our older cat had been vomiting (more than usual), because she was established at BPH and we hadn't changed vets for her yet, we scheduled an appointment for her at BPH. The exact diagnosis could not be determined without further testing and even with that testing the treatment most likely was going to be the same, so we opted not to do further testing. We started her on the suggested meds and she was improving, until one day when we saw blood in her urine. We were able to get her in to find out she had a UTI. She was treated with antibiotics and seemed to recover. But within a week of finishing antibiotics she had blood in her urine again. Thankfully there was an appointment with a vet on Friday night, unfortunately when we loaded her into the kennel she emptied her bladder which meant they couldn't do a urinalysis and we had to bring her back the next morning. On Friday a plan was decided that if the urine test came back negative in house, that we would do an x-ray and send the urine out for culture. The x-ray and urine culture negative in house but on Wednesday, the culture came back with a slight e-coli colony. More antibiotics were supposed to be filled. On Thursday, everything went sideways for our soul kitty. We called BPH to talk with the vet, we were told he was in with a patient and the staff would let him know so he could call us right away. Now, 5 days later...no call from BPH regarding what was happening with our beloved cat, also no call for refill of pain medication or antibiotics for what was supposedly causing blood in her urine. The night we were waiting for BPH to call, closing time of 6pm came and went. Now our options were to find an emergency vet that could see her...if you have ever had to go to an emergency vet in Seattle, you know it is an expedition of several hours and with covid, you can't even go in with your pet. What a horrible picture that is when your pet is in pain, all we wanted to do was to be able to console her and make her time here more comfortable. At the emergency vet we made the difficult decision to let her cross the Rainbow Bridge. read more

So far it's just okay. We just went for the first time on Tuesday and I really was unimpressed. The staff seemed busy/rushed/unwelcoming and I kind of felt just like another chart to them. Pros- they got us in quick when we needed an appt for our sick cat. Dr. Norman seemed kind, prompt and knowledgeable. She explained everything to us which I really appreciated. Cons- it's a bit dirty and small walking in. But it's a pet place so it's not too big of a deal. When I was there to checkout on our first visit-- I just stood there, waiting and the staff where busy and no one acknowledged me until I had to stop someone walking and ask what our next steps were. Eventually when I got a staff member she seemed rushed and inattentive. After not hearing anything back, I called earlier to get any bit of test results. They said they did receive something (not sure why no phone call) and that we will get a call back. Hopefully the doctor calls us today! Also I forgot to mention- they're phone is constantly at the "busy" signal. Which is a bit frustrating since you can hardly get through. Overall, meh. I used to work in a animal hospital and there's definitely things that should be done differently. Maybe it was just a busy day and we will give it one more try. read more

Unable to get our sick dog in for an appointment in an even remotely timely manner, very disappointing

I have been to Bothell Pet Hospital for many years now. The staff is always friendly over the phone or in person. I do miss the staff I met when I first came here. They are most likely wonderful doctors now somewhere... I haven't seen all the doctors here. The ones I know: I highly recommend Dr. Smith (just a lovely person, always caring and down to earth) and Dr. Wichert (she recently joined the practice and IS THE CAT DOC, just kind, caring and angelic). Some not so great experience with Dr. Hsu. I saw her twice in an emergency situation. Although competent, she does have problems with cats, since she refuses to touch them and is just unfriendly. It's a conventional veterinary medecine practice. Reliable and never pushes you to do what is unneeded. I am glad that I still live close by. Definitely recommend. read more

I had a 11 AM appointment for my cat and with Covid had to wait in car for them to come get Rocky. I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment and messaged them I was there. I then waited 30 minutes while they went from one car to another to get or return a pet and NOT once asked me if I was there for an appointment. After 40 minutes they said my appointment is now past and I would have to come tomorrow at 5PM. I will NEVER go back to YOU. Millennials has NO understanding how to treat customers. There is more story to tell but you get my drift. If I could give NO stars, I would. This is a sad day for me. We have been going to BPH for over 20 years and we are switching vets with our 2 dogs and 3 cats. Dr. Kovar is amazing and we will miss her and her excellent care. The rest of the staff is not so great. First, our dogs got really sick a few months ago and we called for help. They wouldn't fit them in and sent us to urgent care even though they were open at the time. They should take care of their own and used to but not anymore. My daughter went there with a really sick cat and after paying $1000 and doing a biopsy on their scared kitty, they lost the results and didn't tell her for over a week. We recently took in 3/5 animals in and the visit was not impressive. We asked if the dogs could get a nail trim which used to be complimentary and they said yes but said nothing about the cost. It took about 5 minutes per dog and there was no grinding, just clipping. I paid the $580 bill and received the receipt by email. They charged me $80 for the 10 minute trim. I reached out to express my frustration with this and finally heard back with no resolution. It seems like now all they care about is making money. Their prices are higher than other places, I checked! I would avoid BPH! read more

Bothell Pet Hospital is phenomenal. I have been going here for a years for general preventative care for my dog. They provide quality veterinary care and are staffed with really good people. Last summer, my dog was diagnosed with nasal carcinoma (cancer) and I had to really lean on Bothell Pet Hospital. My vet, Dr. Kieper, helped my little family so much through the horrible process of losing our beloved dog to a painful battle with cancer. My words can't convey what the staff's kindness, generosity, and compassion has meant to my little family but it will resonate with us forever. Do not go to this vet until they figure out how to treat their customers well again. We took our dog here for almost 3 years. First 2 years were great and they treated us with respect. The last year has been one punch in the gut after another. This last visit was the final straw and we are looking for a new vet. Our dog had an emergency vet visit a few weeks back due to late night vomiting where that emergency clinic noticed a small adrenal gland that would require her vet to test for Addison's disease. We had the records sent to Bothell Pet Hospital and I scheduled a follow up with her primary doctor at Bothell Pet Hospital, very clearly stating we needed a follow up on Addison's disease. When I arrived for our visit I was told the records were never received, treating me like an idiot during the conversation, and that I'd need to schedule another visit and was slapped with $70 for a "wellness visit". I asked what they did and they said they felt her stomach and listened to her heart. I then called the emergency clinic and was given proof that the records were sent to Bothell pet Hospital nearly a month ago! This is just the most recent example of incompetence and lack of customer support with this vet. During our previous wellness visit I had to come back twice because the scheduler didn't put me in the calendar. I no longer trust this place with the health of my dog and urge others to do their homework. read more

This is a difficult and unusual review to write because the reality is, I only visited Bothell Pet Hospital once because I sadly had to put my cat to sleep. My dear cat Chloe was 19 years old and diagnosed with IBD and kidney disease about two years ago. We had recently moved to the Bothell from the Bay Area so I needed to find a vet close by for her annual check up. Chloe's health started to deteriorate a few months after our move so I bumped up her check up date to meet with the doctor. Her weight had dwindled down to about 4 1/2 or 5 lbs. I knew it was time for Chloe, she was suffering and no longer seemed to find joy in life. But I wanted to talk to a doctor and have some assurance that I was making the right decision. It's always so hard to know when it's time :( I can't tell you how lucky I feel that I was assigned Dr. Wichert. By the time I was done talking with the nurse, I was crying. When Dr. Wichert walked in she quietly listened to me tell her about Chloe's history and symptoms. She never interrupted me and had a kind, compassionate face with really helped me stay (somewhat) composed. She examined Chloe and after a tearful discussion I decided it was time to say goodbye. I never felt rushed or pressured to make a decision. The process was gentle and peaceful. I had been dreading this moment for years but couldn't have asked for a nicer environment or kinder person to share this with. Chloe was my dear friend for 19 years so there are no words to express my gratitude for Dr. Wichert and her staff for helping me say goodbye. I'm not sure if or when I will get another pet, but if I do I will most certainly return to Bothell Pet Hospital and Dr. Wichert where i know my pet will receive professional and compassionate care. Bothell Pet Hospital is the best bet I could have asked for. We have moved 40 minutes away and still go here because they have taken such great care of our fur babies. It is easy to schedule, they are generally running on time and always friendly. The one time the vet came into an appointment late she apologized and explained that there had been an emergency and she didn't want to rush through patching up another pup. They clearly love our dogs and don't hesitate to show it with pets and just generally loving on them. When our older pup recently passed away at an emergency clinic Bothell Pet Hospital sent us a condolences card that put me in tears. It was a small act that meant so much. read more

When I adopted my two fur babies Toby & Oscar I instantly started searching for Vet Clinics in the area. Bothell Pet Hospital was what came up on Google.com so I gave them a call and instantly was greeted on the phone by the receptionist. Very friendly employees. I explained my situation and having only a little bit of documents in regards to what vaccines and other things they may need. They instantly knew how to help and what shots based on approximate age was best. They didn't push any other procedures on me and told me my expected price before making appointment (I asked for this) and it was wonderful. If you've ever been blessed to meet Bill Cleveland, you know how lucky you are. To say his patient care is extraordinary, would be an understatement. He has the kindest heart and really does everything he can to help you and your pet through anything. Lesley Kovar is also, an EXCELLENT doctor. She's been there for many years, but still clearly enjoys every day there. She won't give up on your pet without a fight, I can promise you that. Shannon Smith is a sweet, caring doctor who has been great with my crazy, anxiety ridden dog. And that makes her amazing in my book! Kim Hsu is, yet another wonderful doctor. She takes in to consideration the financial needs of clients, discusses everything with you and let's you know what she really feels would be best. Also a delightful person to be around. Last but certainly NOT least, is Dr. Aubrey Schaeffer. Words can't explain how grateful I am for her. My dog is a crazy little wreck and from the first time I brought her in to the clinic, Dr.Schaeffer made a point to be very slow and gentle with my baby. I also have a senior kitty that is in renal failure, and from the beginning she has listened to what I am and am not able to do for him, and has always given me the best advice got my situation. She has a contagious & genuine smile that makes you feel you've known her for years. She may be newer to the clinic, but I promise, she is a wonderful vet, and I highly recommend her. I was new to the area and took my 5 year old dog here after reading the great reviews on yelp. He had a little red bump (looked just like a bug bite) that was on his inner thigh that was concerning me. It has been there for two weeks and it had doubled in size within the last week! We saw Dr.Hsu. I explained to her that it looked like my dog got a bug bite, no big deal, but it had doubled in size in the last week and I was afraid it was an abscess. She then explained that it didn't look like an abscess but she'd take a cell sample just in case. After she took the sample and allegedly examined it, she returned with grave news. The cells that she found from the bump were unusual, different shapes and sizes and she'd never seen anything like it. She couldn't say for sure if the now 'tumor' was malignant or not without sending it to a lab. I was shocked and I asked her, 'How did a bug bite turn into a tumor? Are you sure?'. And she said, 'I can't be sure without sending it to the lab, the cells are unusual.'. I gave her the go ahead to send the sample out, my dog is my absolute best friend and I only want the best for him. I was so incredibly thankful that I was smart enough to bring him in with something so minor and now we caught something major way early on! Thank goodness!!! The bill came to around $280: $60 for the exam and the rest was the cost of the lab work. After waiting 3 agonizing days to hear back from the vet about the lab results (Is it bad? Did I catch it in time? What if I have to put him down?!?!), the results were finally in.... There was no tumor! The vet read the results directly from the report from the lab. She told me that the bump was caused by irritation most likely caused by a bug bite. That's right ladies and gentalmen, a BUG BITE! I asked her if she had ever seen a bug bite on a dog before and she just read me the results of the lab report again. She never answered my question and quickly got off the phone. I am extremely disappointed with my experience at the Bothell Pet Hospital. Dr. Hsu was unable to properly identify dog cells under a microscope and this cost me $220 and a lot of stress worrying about my best friend. I will not be returning. I want my vet to have some experience and at least be able to properly recognize a dog cell under a microscope. I figured stuff like that is standard in a veterinary practice but apparently that's not the case at Bothell Pet Hospital. read more

I've been taking my two cats there since I got them - about 3 years ago. I've never had a problem with Dr. Kovar, or Dr. Smith - all good experiences. I took one cat in with a strange skin issue earlier this year (he's indoor and lives in a controlled environment). Dr. Hsu saw him, barely looked at him and gave me antiobiotics - which didn't work and the problem got worse. I took him back and saw Dr. Smith who did a thurough exam and determined it was food allergies and recommended switching his diet. After trying two different limited ingredient food options we found one that worked. My biggest complaint is Dr. Schaeffer. The same cat with food allergies developed a urinary issue. After discussing the stresses of the previous food allergy issues, Dr. Schaeffer prescribed meds that contain one of the most common cat allergins - chicken. I thought she'd only risk the allergic reaction if he really really needed the medicine (glucosamine tablets). The meds caused an allergic reaction and I had to take him off almost immediately. Dr. Schaeffer suggested I put him on pain medication when I called to say he couldn't take the tablets they'd sold me (and wouldn't take back). A quick phone call to my local Mud Bay resulted in having several glucosamine options without flavoring (plus they'll take items back if your pet won't eat them) and my cat was better a few days later.
