it's beginning to look a lot like christmas, everywhere you go, especially if you dash your way to…read morepotters in surrey. it takes about an hour to get to this nursery from downtown van and we arrived just before 3 pm on a tuesday. upon entering through the front doors of potters, i was in awe of the magical winter wonderland that awaited us. this is the result of santa's little helpers hard at work starting in september. come here to be delighted with festive holiday cheer that will warm even the hearts that are two sizes too small. i love the many different themed christmas trees, from the elegant to the traditional, and whimsical, including one that is hung upside down and rotating. they have many miniature villages, snow globes, lights, stocking stuffers, and the list goes on. a lot of the ornaments are grouped by colour, and/or themes like the nutcracker, garden, pets (the specific breeds of dogs i was looking for were not available), travel (oddly consists of many eiffel towers and two new york ornaments), and sweets. i like to give ornaments as gifts and/or add a few baubles every year, and collect a lot of fragile, glass ornaments of rudolph the red nosed reindeer, but they only had a few plastic or resin characters. they didn't have hello kitty nor sanrio characters, still, it's an impressive 28,000 sq ft of christmas and takes a minimum of an hour to go through. i managed to buy a few gifts and was given two coupons, good for 50% off one christmas item, valid between december 16th to 18th, some restrictions apply. i was told that most of the items go on sale at up to 50% off during boxing day. in the meantime, you may wish to consider signing up for their vip membership to receive weekly email promotions.

I love Christmas and everything that goes with it. So it's been on my list to see the holiday fare at Potters since I moved to Vancouver in 2017. This store's reputation preceded it, and I've been meaning to visit for 4 years! After having visited this store now, my feelings are mixed. It's a humongous venue, and not only is it a cavernous, warehouse-like store inside, but it is also a working nursery, with gorgeous trees and garden fare outside for sale. And the interior designer in me really appreciated the interior displays, especially in the anteroom when you first enter the store. Here, they went all out, and it is a magical area, complete with tons of lights strung on gazebos and trellises and Victorian lampposts, with nostalgic, antique-like Christmas tree themes, and more. If one is looking for inspiration for holiday decorating, this is the place! Inside, there are areas with gourmet foods, smaller stocking stuffers, tons of packets of flavored hot chocolate, There are aisles and aisles of ornaments. There are Christmas villages, holiday lights, knickknacks and tchotchkes and a huge room devoted to games and toys for kids. There's a big selection of humorous gifts for guys (think along the lines of gag gifts and frat-party-like fare). Lots of themed socks, lots of puzzles, lots of games. Here's my beef with this store. Of course I expected prices here to be higher than at other places, as this is such a specialty store. But I expected the items to be either very unique or specialized, or of a higher quality than that at other places. Or both. Either of these qualities would justify higher sell-points for holiday merchandise or gourmet food fare. And, don't get me wrong, Potters DOES have some unique specialty items and some items are of higher quality. But at least half the merchandise sold here (and I'd venture to estimate a good 80%) is neither unique/specialty or higher quality. SO many ornaments I saw and inspected were of plastic or resin, made in China, or seen elsewhere. And the prices are at least double than what I've seen for comparable items elsewhere. Sometimes the prices were jacked up threefold. I know about ornaments and Christmas wrappings and lights, and the prices here were exorbitant. Most telling is the fact that, after walking down every aisle and in every area of this store, and spending over an hour here, I left empty handed. I have never left a Christmas store empty handed. So....that speaks volumes. That said, I still enjoyed visiting this place and seeing some lovely holiday displays, getting some holiday ideas for entertaining, and surrounding myself with some holiday spirit!

I went on thanksgiving long weekend and I think this might've been the first year that they've started charging $7 for admission into the pumpkin patch and corn maze area. The rest of the farm, and the animals area is still open and free to visitors and you can still pick from hundred of pumpkins just not directly from the pumpkin patch area from the ground! Still would highly recommend!

Our first pumpkin patch!…read more We went early in the morning to avoid the crowds and it was a good call! It definitely got busier within half an hour. The pumpkin patch is very nicely decorated and had lots of pumpkins everywhere. They offer little wagons for you so you can haul your pumpkin(s) of choice and little ones around! Along with the pumpkin patch outside, there are fun cut-outs for you to stick your face out of for funny photos, giant tractors to climb on, cedar maze to get lost in, and swings and slides and tunnels to explore. There is also indoor space in case of rain with fun backdrops for photo opportunities, giant sandbox, and a lot of mini games to play such as pumpkin tic-tac-toe! Plenty of parking, so don't worry about that! There are also food trucks around lunch time. We had so much fun for our first time and baby was so tired he from all the walking and running around!
