First to review "Boston" and how does one actually review a magazine?
Well "Boston" magazine is very sophisticated. Sure the magazine may be chock full of glam and glitz that this city has to offer, but some articles are truly Boston focused no matter what working class you're from. I remember reading articles from "Boston" about which city has the best schooling system, public and private (which was, hands down Newton), the top doctors in the city, and a hard hitting article about Mayor Menino. As they say, "the best city in America deserves the best city magazine" and they do a fantastic job at it. The writers, editors and designers do an excellent job at highlighting all this wonderful city has to offer; from education & finance to medicine & nightlife. Boston has some of the nation's best restaurants, trendiest shopping, and smartest people & "Boston" magazine showcases all of it.
"Boston" has been around for over 40 years now and has won many awards and has been recognized for their expository, perceptive and innovative reporting and design. It is the nations #2 most popular City magazine, which is a pretty cool feat in of itself. And $10 for 12 issues ain't that bad, cheaper then my Maxim subscription.
The "Best of Boston" edition is almost like a map, bible, and a source of all things great in this wonderful city. Even though people have said that this is simply a competition to see who can throw enough money around and buy the title "Best of Boston" the winners usually ARE some of the best this city has to offer!!
I come from the other side of the tracks in this city and can truly enjoy "Boston" for what it is; A super glam rag for the ultra rich in this city who want to live posh lifestyles. Whatever, I don't care. I read the Phoenix and enjoy it just as much too.
Don't want to pay for it? You can read most articles on their website (http://www.bostonmagazine.com) but seriously, do yourself a favor and pick up the "Best of Boston" issue.
