I would give Jim ten stars if I could! It was a terrific experience. Jim is incredibly thorough and careful, and is *so* good at explaining what he's doing and why. I learned so much about the place that I'm trying to buy--what it needs right away (not much thank goodness), what's good about it (a lot, thank goodness), what would be good to address at some point that's not urgent.... He explained what kind of person to hire for the various jobs when the time comes--pointing, radiators, windows, etc.--and how to tell whether they were doing the job well. It was fascinating and fun to watch him work and learn about the unfamiliar systems and technology. I feel completely at peace with my decision to go forward, and I feel knowledgeable about things I knew nothing about. And his fee was very reasonable. Jim said I was welcome to call him if I have any questions at all. Which I might. I am pleased and grateful. read more

Jim responded quickly to a tight deadline for inspection. He was polite, professional and knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Really appreciated all the label tags on all the various valves. Also has a hilarious Instagram follow. read more

Jim is awesome. Really enjoyed working with him. Amazing customer service. Thank you.

Jim was a great home inspector and I would highly recommend using him to any home buyer. Jim is thorough and thoughtful. He showed early and took note of any issues outside in advance of our arrival. Took only about 1.5hrs for a 1500 sq foot home with a yard. Painless! read more

We had a great experience with Aiden Brock from Boston Home Inspectors and highly recommend them. We had an offer accepted on our home on a Saturday and Aiden was able to complete our inspection the next day. Aiden was professional, thorough and ensured we identified the important items to address for our new home. He followed up with our written report shortly after the inspection and BHI also assisted with our Radon testing. If you are looking for a reliable and trustworthy home inspector in the Greater Boston area, look no further than Boston Home Inspectors! read more

Aidan was great! Very thorough, communicated clearly, and answered all of our questions. Would definitely recommend BHI!

Having had several house inspections for various properties, this was by far the most complete and professional inspection we have had. The quality of this inspection warrants five stars. Inspector was professional, informative, thorough, and we had the report in our hands in a timely manner. Extremely pleased and reassured that our understanding of the property was revealed and explained in full. read more

3.5 stars- We had a home inspection with BHI that lasted 45 mins. Previous home inspections I've experienced last 2-4 hours. They also overcharged us compared to prices posted on their website. They were very expensive. They reviewed a lot of things from their checklist and gave an informative report. The father son combo were friendly and knowledgeable. read more

James was fantastic. He was thorough, educational, and friendly. It felt as though at every corner of the inspection he wanted to make sure we fully understood what he saw as well as what he would recommend if it was in his house. As first time home buyers we were extremely nervous going into it, but James made us feel very at ease while still being very matter-of-fact. Highly recommend! read more

As a first time home buyer, the process of going through an inspection can be quite daunting. James and his son could not have been nicer. They walked me through everything in detail and answered all of my questions. He was great at calling things out and bringing things to my attention that I wouldn't have necessarily known to ask about. After our walkthrough, he sent over a full report so that I could review our notes again. I would easily recommend him to any home buyer, but especially to those who are purchasing a home for the first time . read more

Really excellent and thorough inspection, and very informative as well. Devin was great!

Jim was awesome. Just had a condo inspection with him this morning and he really made something stressful into a very calm and educational process. He was even early to the appointment in downtown during morning work rush hour (still not sure how he pulled that off). He knew his way around every appliance (and all of the nuances of the different brands) - he moved around the house thoroughly and methodically but was very friendly the whole time and answered all of my questions without ever making me feel like I was being annoying. He went up the ladder to check out the roof of the condo building and he let my fiance follow him up there (as I squeezed my eyes shut at the bottom of the ladder and tried not to cry) and showed him all of the items he was checking like they were a team so he would understand everything. Very punctual follow up as well - I left with the paper copy in my hand this morning but he already emailed me a follow up and an electronic version. Even ran into him after the inspection in the same breakfast diner down the street with my family and he was very nice. He is definitely 5 star and I will recommend him to all of my friends buying houses. read more

I've met with Jim for two separate home inspections and would not use anybody else. Jim is extremely thorough, knowledgable, and professional. He's had many years of experience and came highly recommended from my broker. His experience lends him years of history with many of the condo buildings in the Boston metro area--this was helpful because he knew more about the building than the seller's agent. Jim is also punctual--he showed up early on both occasions, ready to go. I definitely recommend BHI if you're looking for a home inspector! read more

They came out with 2 guys and gave us a thorough understanding of all the areas of the building. Took about 2 hours. They were very easy to schedule and work with. read more

James Brock did two home inspections for me and both of them were excellent. He certainly went above and beyond my expectations for a home inspection. He was extremely thorough and pointed out things that I would not have even thought about when considering buying a home. He provided a very balanced review and reminded me that no home is perfect which was thoughtful. I highly recommend using his services. read more

James is a wonderful inspector. Very patient, friendly and thorough. What I liked about him is that he didn't have a time constraint. He took his time walking around the house with me answering all of my questions. I also liked the fact that he used his ipad to take notes and pictures which he shared with me so that I can go over his notes. I will definitely be recommending him to my friends. read more

Jim is amazing! Extremely thorough and did not miss a thing. Worth every penny. We received a pdf copy of the inspection report with pictures from the inspection attached. I would not even consider ever using anyone else in the future. read more

James Brock did a very thorough job inspecting our Back Bay condo. He was 20 minutes early and was able to work with our tight schedule on the P & S. He knows what to look for and was knowledgeable regarding the systems of the condo. His routine details each and every area of concern and he detailed the repairs needed or missing items. I was so impressed with the job he did for the buyer of our unit I hired him to inspect our new unit! Nice job and thank you James!! read more

James is so on-top of his game. From scheduling to payment to delivery of the report -- he makes a scary process easy and provides peace-of-mind. During our inspection, James was careful to explain lots of detail (all included in the documents too) that was so helpful for understanding of the house and how it worked. read more

Works hand and hand with agents selling property, and tells you all the little things. But doesn't tell you anything that will make you not want to buy it. I'm sure he is getting a kick back from reality company. Just another scam artist STAY AWAY read more

James Brock was fantastic! He did our home inspection and he was very thorough. We will definitely use him again!

James helped us with 2 home inspections while we were looking for our new home. He did a great job both times. He was very thorough and educated us on how to keep our home in tip top shape (when to replace filters, get inspections/maintenance, etc). He showed up early both times so by the time we arrived he was almost done with his initial inspection and took his time walking us through his findings. He was friendly and very patient while he answered all of our questions. I will definitely recommend him to my friends. read more

BEWARE- James Brock appeared to have inspected all parts of the house. He told us we needed to replace the HVAC system , which we were prepared to budget for. However he totally missed a sagging roof which was due to the fact that the rafters in the attic were not even attached to the joists! (the nails were 6 inches away in mid air) This could have caused a roof collapse. He checked off satisfactory on the rafters and joists on the inspection sheet. Despite the fact that he did not really look to see if they were connected to each other. We contacted him, but he would not admit any fault. Do NOT use this inspector. read more

Jim Brock is hands down the best home inspector in the Greater Boston Area. His years of expertise paired with his incredible knowledge make him incomparable. He is incredibly thorough and takes the time to explain aspects of the home to the buyer with tremendous clarity. I recommend him to all of my clients (I am a realtor) and just hired him to do my own inspection. I would never call anyone else! Thank you Jim!! read more

Horrible. Inspected a house in Medford and missed significant termite damage, an underground oil storage tank, and many electrical hazards.A second inspector found these things. Avoid this guy. read more

Just did a home inspection with James and I was thoroughly impressed. He took great care to thoroughly go through everything and explain everything to me. Would definitely use again or recommend to anyone else. read more

Jim Brock of Boston Home Inspectors inspected two properties for us, a single-family in 2004 and a condo in 2009. He was very professional and thorough, his advice was valuable in making a purchasing decision and negotiating the price, and in hindsight I can say he did not miss anything major. His assessment of the life expectancy of things like the roof or the water boiler was accurate. We highly recommend his services. read more

Extremely thorough inspectors. Jim and his assistant did a great job inspecting a 3 family in Chelsea in about 2 hours. The issues they pointed out came with recommendations to fix, and the level of urgency, i.e. Budget for this 5 years from now... Etc etc. He provided an age of the roof via the serial numbers on the roofing material, and even took 360 degree photos as I was curious about the views for a potential roof deck. Highly recommend them, just getting into real estate myself, I will use them for all future inspections as well. read more

Our inspection by Jim was a joke. We bought our house two years ago and after a very superficial review were told that, overall, things looked good. Literally right after we moved in, we started noticing evidence of an issue with the foundation of an addition built in 1940. Either this thing stood fine for 75 years and just conveniently started cracking right after we bought it, or Jim did not notice obvious warning signs. We had a contractor come in and inspect it and he was immediately able to see the issues. I wish all of these positive reviewers would come back and provide an update after the fact. Save your money and go with a cheaper inspector. read more

James was refferred to me by Remax's agent in Jun and inspected the condo unit for me. He let me know all the minor problems. So I think the unit still worth. But when I do some renovation before I move in, the constructor told me right away that the unit was flooded before when he looked at the bottom of the wall. And my neighbor confirmed this is ture. I'm very disappointed that he did not point this out. I will not recommend him to anyone. read more

I read the seven reviews before hiring Boston Home Inspectors to do an inspection of a place that I was buying as a second home in the Boston area. Jim seemed competent when he did the inspection and provided a detailed report with lots of minor issues noted (none important). However, he completely missed some very severe water damage that cost me literally thousands of dollars to repair. When I raised this with BHI, they refused to do anything. I should have paid more attention to the one negative review. If you're buying a place that's in great condition and need someone to nit-pick, then Jim is your guy -- but, I would never use him again. read more

I have used Boston Home Inspectors (bhi.us) two times for different home inspections. They are awesome! They are very professional starting from booking all the way through the inspection and reporting. They are very thorough and will show you everything that needs improvement in your future home. I would highly recommend that you use this company for any home or commercial inspection. read more

Jim was great. He provided a fair estimate compared to other inspectors, arrived early and did a thorough job of the inspection. The report is very detailed and highlighted what was in good shape, what should be repaired immediately and what type of repairs to consider over the next few years. The report is completed on his ipad including all photos and was emailed to myself, and my realtor before he left the home. Compared to other inspectors I've used in the past, he was very thorough, detailed and straight to the point. I would absolutely recommend him and would use him in the future. The only down side is that since this was a first floor condo, there wasn't access to the roof, so he wasn't able to review its condition. Also, pictures were taken during the inspection and then added to the end. it would be great if the pictures had captions like I've seen on past inspection reports so I didn't have to keep going back through the inspection to review with picture was related to each item. read more

I recommend these home inspectors for their professionalism, willingness to share their expertise and attention to detail. As a first time homeowner, they took the time to explain the condition of the home, its systems and expenses I would incur maintaining the home in the future. My advice to you as a buyer is to set aside plenty of time for the inspection. This is a big purchase-don't be afraid to ask questions about the home's construction, how long the hot water heater will last, what to do if a waterline breaks, which repairs must be done now and what can wait, and anything else you uncover in the inspection. read more
