Max Heating and Cooling is outstanding…read more My old heat pump system wasn't working, so I contacted one of the big companies in the Boston area. Their guy came in and wouldn't even look to see what was wrong with my unit. They immediately told me that I needed a new system and quoted me an outrageous price. They told me that they needed to rip out all my walls to put it in. I wanted to get a second opinion, so I put a request through yelp. Dan, the owner of Max, emailed me within an hour with his cell number. Stacey, the office manager, called me first thing the next morning and sent out Joseph, who did a careful analysis of my system. It did need to be replaced. Paulo came out and did an outstanding installation, over 3 days, staying late on a Friday night to complete it. My walls were all kept intact. And the price was MUCH lower than what the big name company quoted me. DEFINITELY USE MAX!!!!! Feel free to contact me for details.

Had an absolutely amazing experience with Max Heating and Cooling! Dan and Sam have been stand-out with the depth of their answers to my questions. I appreciate that immensely as a demonstration of how much they care about the subject matter, and how much they care about ensuring I'm properly informed on what is happening. Sam and his crew were out all day yesterday dismantling the old boiler and installing the new one. They were friendly and engaged the whole time letting me observe the process. Sam called me over throughout to show me up close what had corroded in my old boiler, and to explain to me how it happened. He did the same during install of the new boiler to demonstrate all the critical aspects for maintenance--including letting me unscrew and rescrew a piece to practice for future cleaning. The new boiler is running smoothly right now. I feel like I understand its pieces. Sam even took an interest in diagnosing why my bathroom heating panel (which has never worked) wasn't heating. He cleaned out its vent and it has heat now. My cat is very happy to be warm right now. From the way Sam and his crew talked through all the aspects of the work they were doing, it was clear they take pride in the quality of the work. This wasn't just a job to get over and done with. And what's more, they did it for $2k cheaper than my competing quote. Max Heating and Cooling will be the first people I call for any plumbing projects I have going forward.

Thank you so much for your emergancy service when our oil burner shut down…read more Your service technician Wayne Sicotte was here in four hours from my call to your office. Wayne is a very skilled technician and really knows his oil burner repair service, and a very pleasant person to deal with. Thanks again as I am very happy with Macfarlane energy. WARNING: Two Years Without Service, Then an Unexpected $916 Oil Delivery and a Threat of Small…read moreClaims Court I strongly encourage Massachusetts homeowners to think twice before signing up with MacFarlane Energy, particularly for its automatic oil delivery and Value Plan. I became a customer in 2022. My last oil delivery was March 18, 2024, and my last annual boiler tune-up was February 9, 2024. For approximately TWO YEARS, MacFarlane made no deliveries, performed no annual maintenance and never once contacted me about my account. Its own Value Plan documentation explicitly includes an annual heating-system tune-up, yet I received no further tune-ups. During that time, I began purchasing oil elsewhere to keep my tank above 50%. After nearly two years without deliveries, maintenance or communication, I reasonably believed my relationship with MacFarlane had ended. Then, on March 26, 2026, MacFarlane unexpectedly delivered 152 gallons of oil at approximately $6.03 per gallon, charging me $916.84 during a period of extremely high oil prices. No advance phone call, no email and no opportunity to decline the delivery or its price. Now MacFarlane is demanding $971.84 and has escalated the dispute toward small claims court. I dispute these outrageous charges. Why should a company be able to go nearly two years without providing the annual maintenance included in its service plan, never communicate with its customer, then suddenly resume deliveries and demand nearly $1,000? I believe MacFarlane's handling of my account raises serious concerns under Massachusetts Chapter 93A, which prohibits unfair or deceptive business practices. I intend to pursue the appropriate consumer-protection channels. I have retained my invoices, service-plan documentation, account records and correspondence to substantiate my experience. MY WARNING TO HOMEOWNERS: Do not assume that years without deliveries, maintenance or communication mean MacFarlane has closed your account. Read every cancellation provision, get everything in writing and make sure you're actually receiving the services promised in your contract. They will show up and fill your tank without talking to you in 2 years or without any warning. Based on my experience, I would never recommend MacFarlane Energy. I believe its handling of my account, its failure to provide annual maintenance and its response to this billing dispute are completely unacceptable.
