After getting quotes from a number of roofers, Mike Cooper and his crew at CC&L was our clear choice. Our job was run by Marty and he and his team took such extreme care and did a great job. They were so awesome that we were actually sad to see them go when the job was complete. We were so happy we also used them a few years later to put new siding on our house! Fast forward 20 years and we needed a couple of tiles replaced from storm damage. The gentleman who answered the phone said we were the first job he worked on 20 years ago. Mike and Marty are still there and if that's not a sign of a great company with that kind of continuity I don't know what it is. Competitive pricing, great quality and wonderful people. Even though the crew made good on ALL of the problems *they created* during the process, it was owner Ben's behavior that leaves me at a loss for words. During the consult Ben was cordial and informative. It was an easy choice as we had seen his work around the neighborhood. But wow, when he returned to start the job, he was a completely different man. Rude and cold. It was clear that all he cared about was lining his pockets and we were just another job for him. A roof tear off and replacement is no joke! He was difficult with all of the problems his crew created. Wrong gutters, broken garage light, mess everywhere and a leak during a rain storm that the crew hadn't tarped for even though I warned them! After completion we had another major leak due to incorrect flashing. Ben was incredibly difficult and sour with us when we reached out to him. I will never know why the stars didn't line up for us. We bought a new roof and in return we got vitriol directed at us for problems we didn't create. Nice roof, though. No stars should be given.

During the process, Elements discovered--and showed us--that nearly all our roof decking (the plywood sheet layer) was warped and needed to be replaced. So, we ended up paying nearly twice as much as originally quoted. (Initial inspections never find this level of "uh oh." It would have happened with any other roofer.) Things we liked/appreciated: 1) Quick and thorough responses to our questions - especially detailed questions that helped me compare one bid with another; 2) Ease of reaching and communicating with Jessica, the Operations Manager, who worked with us to schedule our job; 3) Quick and courteous responses from Ben, as well as excellent communication between Ben and the work crew; 4) Ben's final walk-through with us was on time and thorough. To consider: Elements involved multiple team members, which sometimes was great and other times resulted in crossed wires. They had to reschedule our initial inspection, and sadly we didn't speak the same language as the inspector who arrived on the revised date. (The written report was clear and thorough, though.) All in all, replacing a roof is a stressful act of trust for the homeowner. Elements did a solid job for us.

The crew did a good job in making sure materials were removed from the roof and the grounds. We now have roof that in quality and craftsmanship is so much more than what it was originally. A few hiccups along the way (blasting music at 3am from their truck parked in my driveway, I stepped on on of their roofing nails (ouch!), and this oddity in the upper rain gutter where it unnecessarily slants making it look horrible. I realize gutters need to slope to drain water, but this one is extreme and looks stupid). Would I recommend these guys? Maybe. Update: Clear Vision finally sent a crew out to fix the small section of rain gutter with the unusual slant. So kudos to them for following up albeit weeks later. (BTW, I also asked for a bid to paint my house : they provided a dollar quote but didn't send anyone to talk to me about what I needs or what service they would provide. To say the least, they didn't paint my house.)

Admittedly, we missed moving it before they got here but leaving it on the ground without even a heads up is just poor business. They also trampled and blew debris all over a well-marked patch of new grass we have been growing. While they did do what they promised and cleaned off the flat surfaces (driveway, etc) with a blower, they do so by blowing the debris from your gutters all over your lawn and flower beds. Having been in the gutter business I am well aware of the challenges associated with the job and in my opinion their performance was lack-luster at best.

Megan was great, getting us scheduled with an estimator very quickly. I had a disappointing experience with the estimator this morning that makes me not interested in working with All Surface, at all. After looking at the exhaust fan ducts/vents - the estimator told me that 2 of the 4 other vents we have on our roof are placed in the wrong spots and that they want to remove those 2 vents, patch, re-shingle, and install 4 new vents on the other side of the house for a total of 6 vents (2 existing and 4 new) as well as adding the 2 stem vents for the exhaust fans. I asked what the purpose of relocating/adding those 4 vents would be as we are not experiencing any moisture issues in the attic. The estimator explained some airflow/air pressure dynamics which made sense. I then asked if we could look at replacing the aging vents in their existing locations as an additional option to what he proposed and that's where it escalated. He responded with an annoyed "We don't just throw shit on people's roofs". and continued to say that they're the experts and they're going to do things the right way. This was a completely unnecessary response to a genuine question. I'm not trying to get you to do things the wrong way - I was asking if there was a way to minimize the level of work needed when there are functioning ventilation penetrations already in place. The response was not friendly, educational, or good customer service in any way. This experience really soured my opinion of All Surface and don't plan on working with them. I hope others do not experience the same type of interaction I did.

This is an example of what dealing with any contractor should be. After much research I had decided to install the Hardie siding. I wanted to use a contractor who was familiar with the product and installed to James Hardie criteria and specifications. I went to James Hardie's website and searched for contractors that are designated as Elite Preferred. ACAE popped up and had impeccable reviews. Starting with the sales person, Joe, he thoroughly explained what they would do for me. He was knowledgeable and personable. There was absolutely no pressure whatsoever. The bid was higher than the others but after researching (ACAE) and speaking with Joe, I was convinced they were the company for me. In this case, you really get what you pay for. I was introduced to Josh, the Project Manager. Once again, very knowledgeable and personable. Very easy to work with and communicated with me on a daily basis. When problems cropped up, he was always there to offer suggestions on how to proceed. His crew, led by Nikolay with Rosty and Eugene, did amazing work. The workmanship is impeccable; the crew was very organized and professional. They always made the worksite safe and clean; leaving everything spotless when they left at the end of the day. I can't emphasize enough the quality of their work. It was just beautiful. The paint crew, led by Vladimir, once again did unbelievable work; totally transforming the appearance of an already exquisite job. Although color decisions were ultimately mine, Vladimir was always willing to offer a suggestion as to which color to use on a particular area. (I had selected four colors for the primary on the house, secondary for the house, trim and the doors.) These individuals collectively transformed my house (a basic ranch) into a home that I am proud to show off. In summation, I would highly recommend A Cut Above Exteriors if you want premium quality work on your home. You can probably get a siding job done cheaper but I truly believe you get what you pay for. There is nothing I can say negatively about the experience from the initial walk around with Joe, the actual installation with Josh, Nikolay, Rosty and Eugene and finally the painting with Vladimir and his crew. This company made numerous mistakes on our project. We told them that we would pay once all…read morecorrections were completed; however, David, the Operations Manager, began threatening us with placing a lien on our home. We paid the full amount, but afterward there were continued problems with completing the work and repairs, along with additional damage caused during the project. We paid $47,000 for a large-scale job, yet they continued to make errors on a daily basis while attempting to conceal them from us. One of the most alarming examples was that they installed Window! flashing across the entire roof. (David's Idea!). I can't even count how many times I had to clean nails out of the street and garden, as well as oil stains from the driveway and street, after they left. One of the workers was pulled into the gutter machine right in front of my eyes. Thankfully, another worker managed to shut the machine off in time. The workers from this company are vulgar and aggressive. They reacted aggressively when I asked them not to damage my property, because they destroyed many things during the project. I was only able to learn the truth from the security cameras because they lied to me when I asked what had happened. The owner of the company did not respond to the aggressive behavior of the workers, even though we informed him about it many times. The company owner should ensure that workers have access to proper restroom facilities. At the beginning of the project, there were none, and one of the workers relieved himself in my yard--in plain view of me!

After I pointed out a defect in the gutter installation -- a visible ¼" hole near a gutter seam that should have been properly sealed metal-to-metal -- Chris responded by calling me a vulgar name in a foreign language I understand. Unfortunately, this incident was only the latest in a long series of problems we experienced with Precision throughout our project. We hired Precision to replace our roof. On the first day, workers threw a 4'x8' plywood sheet into our front window casing, requiring repairs. We also found large gaps between plywood sheathing panels. Defective shingles were installed across the roof, but Precision disclosed the issue only after installation was complete. During installation, crews worked through heavy rain, and one worker fell off the roof before being caught by his harness. Ridge vents were also improperly fastened, with nails driven through random areas instead of designated slots. Nick and Alex supervised this phase. After a warranty claim for the shingles, David oversaw a complete tear-off and second roof installation. During this installation, rain entered our attic because the roof was not properly dried in despite repeated requests. We had to place buckets in the attic while the crew attempted to tarp the roof during the storm. David also installed plywood sheathing with excessive corner gaps, used window flashing tape around the eaves, which is not specified for roofing applications, and screwed a chimney cricket directly into the masonry, damaging the chimney. We then requested David's removal from the job, and owner Ben agreed to a second tear-off and third re-roof due to the severity of the issues. Jim supervised the third installation. By then, we felt forced to monitor nearly every aspect of the work ourselves. We had to ensure plywood gaps complied with code and discovered two skylights improperly fastened without adequate support. The gutter installation created additional issues. One worker put his weight against our kitchen door while holding a ladder in his arms while another climbed it, creating a serious safety hazard just as my wife was about to open the door. The installers also arrived without the correct gutter hangers and modified them on-site. It turned out they were using the wrong hangers. When we received the invoice, it contained multiple incorrect charges that required revision and negotiation, yet we were still threatened with a two-week payment deadline. After corrections, we paid on time. We later discovered additional gutter defects, including 4-foot hanger spacing, despite manufacturer requirements for spacing every two feet, violating both manufacturer instructions and Oregon code. We also found a blocked edge vent that had not been ventilating for 18 months because the roof opening had been cut incorrectly. Precision sent Jim back to add hangers, but he used the same incorrect hangers that visibly dented the gutters. Precision agreed to replace those sections and reinstall a misaligned and damaged fascia board. It took two attempts to reinstall the fascia correctly after we spent significant time sourcing and preparing replacement boards. We had to help install fascia boards because they did not have enough workers to help Jim. During the latest gutter replacement, we discovered improperly cut drip-edge flashing corners with visible gaps that remain unresolved, also a code violation. The crew also forgot to cut a hole for the downspout outlet, leaving water unable to drain from a long gutter run. Throughout the project, Precision never performed a walk-through or identified defects themselves; we had to point out every issue. My wife was also treated in a vulgar and condescending manner by several workers. Overall, this project, which cost $50K, involved repeated installation defects, safety hazards, property damage, code violations, billing disputes, poor communication, and unprofessional conduct from workers and supervisors alike.
