I've been a patient of Dr. Heal's for about a year and a half. We moved from Silicon Valley, and…read moreeveryone on the Monterey Peninsula told me how hard it is to find good doctors, but I could not be more thrilled with Dr. Heal. She's one of the top docs of any type that I've ever seen. She's extremely thorough and really takes time to listen as well as do a thorough exam. Her annual exam includes an EKG and pulmonary function test. I've had numerous appointments that have lasted over an hour. She's also very proactive -- I've had a hip issue for years that my two previous GPs ignored, and she helped with a couple of treatment ideas and ordering imaging, which included a pretty epic battle with my insurance company. I will need surgery to fix it, but she's the first doc who actually listened and helped me address it. I've also seen her for several other issues, including Covid, gut issues, rheumatology, and anxiety. She's been knowledgable and compassionate about them all, and her referrals have been solid. Be aware that there is a concierge fee. To me it's extremely well spent: it buys me long, thorough appointments (1 hour plus) and phone access outside office hours. I once called with post-Covid breathing issues after hours, got the doctor directly, she reassured me I didn't need to go to ER and saw me the next day at 7:30 am. I can text and get a response on a weekend. Fee is 1/10 of what it would be in Silicon Valley. If you are a person who only sees the doctor once a year, might not be worth it.

However - expect to wait weeks (or months) for an appointment, and then plan on a 2 hour wait for that appointment. If your appointment is at 1 pm, she will see you at 3. Clear your calendar. Expect no productivity. Bring a book. You can try to call ahead to see how far behind she is, but you will probably be told to come in on time for your appointment. I wish she would adapt her scheduling to accommodate this, but after several years with her, it hasn't changed. Office management has changed. Even ownership has changed. Time management is still poor. Quality of care is a solid 5+ stars. You will bleed out or miss a full meal waiting though. Therefore 1 star for time management. That averages out to 3.

After numerous requests to find out how long it would be, he finally left at about 11:45 after making an appointment with another doctor. Staff was apologetic and helpful (as much as possible) but wait time is unacceptable. Husband took off work to go to this appointment and he works 1.5 hours away so you can imagine how inconvenient this was. ALSO, this was not original appointment nor doctor. When I called office a couple of week before about another question, found out that husband's appointment was not only moved out a week but was scheduled with a different doctor. No one notified us; had it not been for my calling to ask a question on the intake form, we would not have known he had been rescheduled. Just noticed that Doctor concentrates on women's health (obgyn?) which can possibly be cause of delay. However, if known there would be a delay at this time in the morning, someone should have notified us and rescheduled appointment. BTW, was told that this doctor is notorious for running late. Terrible service; terrible consideration and respect for other people's time!!!

I flunked my eye exam at the dmv which made it important to fix the problem quickly. After carefully explaining the process and choices, I was more than amazed with the results. "Let there be sight"! would be the obvious. Within minutes of surgery, I was able to see clearly, and with brilliant lights everywhere. Once the cataracts were removed, I was further grateful to find out that I had 20 20 vision in both eyes, and did not need reading glasses. I was told this is not always the case, but I would have been satisficed with anything close to normal. The process is somewhat complex but the results are perfect eye sight with minimal risks. The nurses were easy to work with and I now have amazing sight. Many thanks to Anthem/BC, Vantage Eye Center, Dr Zachery Richardson, Dr. Bakahti, and all the nurses at Cass Street, Ryan Ranch, and Salinas Surgery Center. Five Stars and a SNAP!!!!

I asked see someone who specializes in Keratoconus and Scleral lenses. I was told that would be possible. I arrive for my appointment and first thing is they make it abundantly clear (with tacky printed paper signs) that they DO NOT see patients without a co-pay. Receptionist was rude, but hey low wages and $6 gas, I get it. But at least get some professional signs. I forgot my wallet and was informed they don't see patients without a co-pay. Period. They don't take any form of digital payments. I was able to use my digital credit card's virtual card number for the $50 copay. I sat down and waited and waited min for my appointment. They had no problem giving plenty of attention to the vendors who came in after me. Two vendors were led back to see their physicians without haste and both appeared to come in unannounced. I finally get called back, with no apology for any delays. I've been treated better in a line at a night club. After initial question were gathered, I was informed that I was only scheduled for a basic eye exam and NOT anything related to getting my prescription updated (even though I specifically stated that when I called), I would have to come back and spend ANOTHER $50 to see a different doctor who does not specialize in Keratoconus, but handles prescriptions. Both of my previous experiences at optometrist both doctors who specialized in my eye disease were able to examine my eyes AND fit my scleral lens prescription. Here it seems they want to milk you for all they can, so book you for 2 separate appointments. They did cancel my appointment, but I wasted my time taking off work and going here to sit around in a waiting room with 1 bar of cell service. Avoid. The customer service is awful. They do a great job at making you feel like a number. But that's what you get in America where our healthcare is a luxury to be rationed. If you are going to rob people for co-pays at least get some decent wifi so we can browse the internet while we wait patiently for our rationed health care.
